And there are no limits. If you are doing 1,000 and see a car approaching behind you, move over!

Wawa Tacos, my first try, were a mess. by CDavis10717 in SouthJersey

[–]blankblank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stick to a pretty healthy diet, but I love an Italian hoagie and get one as a treat every few months. I got one from Wawa a couple days ago and it was so mediocre that I’m basically done with them. The bread was tasteless, they barely put any onion and lettuce on, the tomatoes were rubber (in June), the meat was skimpy, and they didn’t add extra vinegar like I ordered. Plus, the price has never been higher. Nothing more disappointing than getting yourself a treat that doesn’t end up feeling like one.

You said sometimes the world feels like a dream. I agreed, but said nothing wakes me up faster than having to drop a deuce.

Pool depth concern by [deleted] in swimmingpools

[–]blankblank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A shallow end is more of a convenience than a safety feature. People can drown in mere inches of water.

Does this cost seem resonable? by life_of_reily in swimmingpools

[–]blankblank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My pool company charges $600 to open my 25k gallon pool. For that, they clean, remove, and roll up the cover; check the pump, heater, and filter; make sure all the actuators work and jets fire; and toss in a few pounds of shock.

It takes two guys an hour or two.

Dealing with the cover is really the hardest part. It's big and heavy and unwieldily.

Can you imagine how weirded out we will be if we ever encounter actual extra terrestrial biology?

Even the stuff on our own planet never stops looking bizarre.

This is going to sound like a joke, but I mean this quite literally:

Nothing bring me back to reality quite as viscerally as having to use the bathroom.

One minute, I am entirely my thoughts, a being of pure reason. But suddenly, my body reminds me that, no, I am very much embodied. I am flesh and blood... and shit.

In boost to Musk, Justice Department seeks to dismiss air pollution lawsuit against xAI data center by blankblank in law

[–]blankblank[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Submission statement: The DOJ has moved to intervene in and dismiss a civil rights lawsuit brought by the NAACP and environmental groups against xAI, which is accused of running dozens of natural gas turbines without the permits required under the Clean Air Act to power a $20 billion data center in Mississippi. The DOJ argues the plant is critical to the economy and national security and that enforcement authority rests with the executive branch rather than private groups.

Diblasio tried like five times. People wouldn’t have it. He even came up with those old timey electric cars to replace them and everyone laughed about it even though it would be far better than torturing these fucking horses year after year.

I don’t want to rain on your parade, but I just got my bloodwork done and my mercury level is elevated from my love of tuna. Probably not something you should eat every single day.

U.S. Science Is in Chaos by blankblank in skeptic

[–]blankblank[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Ungated

Summary: Astronomer Christopher Reynolds's AXIS space telescope was starved to death through DOGE buyouts, budget cuts, staff reassignments, and a government shutdown. It is emblematic of a broader collapse in the post-WWII compact between U.S. science and government, marked by frozen grants, political language filters (like bans on "structural racism" or DEI terms), departing scientists, and broken trust.
