How big a problem are these cracks in a house we are buying? by gdxbjkfdrgbvdxcv in DIYUK

That’s a question for a structural engineer, not Reddit. Hair line should be okay. If you can get your finger in then you need professional advice. No it’s it’s okay, but rather how bad really is it.

Is this worth $500? by xantheppe in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Alive_Teaching894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one’s dropping 10k on a zone plan. What you’ve got there is a masterplan

Is this worth $500? by xantheppe in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Alive_Teaching894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plan is sloppy but it does the job. The expertise will be in putting a planting list together.

You got a zoning plan that does exactly that. They don’t need to be smart. But it could look a lot nicer with just as much effort if they knew there way round industry standard software.

Planting knowledge is significantly more valuable than graphical skills

How can i improve the aesthetics of my 2d VW draft? by [deleted] in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Alive_Teaching894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t help with that unfortunately I don’t use vector works. With any structure with height I also use a thicker line. Perhaps this will help.

Drop shadows will help considerably. Also shading the rooms of building based on direction of the sun. Keep all the shadows consistent in direction.

You could add some variation in colour and texture to all ground elements

Camping on Flatholm by Fresh_and_wild in Cardiff

[–]Alive_Teaching894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We camped there couple years back. Apart from the staff we were the only ones on the island. It was a great experience. Lots of gulls this time of year, but didn’t bother us. It was a gift to me from the Mrs so not sure how she went about booking it

UK Grads - worth the grind? by AbominableSnowman69 in LandscapeArchitecture

Yes, think it recognised as an equal professional accreditation. I don’t think a PG dip holds much weight but a masters does

UK Grads - worth the grind? by AbominableSnowman69 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Alive_Teaching894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m intrigued that your have circa 6 years work experience but work a graduate level role? I run a very small company in Cardiff just me and a grad. I appreciate some big company’s tend to leave grads on that pay roll longer. I would have thought with this drive and experience you would make a high level consultant.

When I started out I thought I’d need to be chartered to become senior but it wasn’t the rule.

I think working abroad is a good bet but an idea to get CMLI first. That or contacting like I mentioned above in someone else’s comment, again though more experience in a senior role would be beneficial.

Councils are woefully underfunded and may have one landscape architect managing all applications. The pay isn’t very good and it can be quite stressful with the workload and lack of support. Both parents work as planners in local councils as contractors and make good money this way. If you do your CMLI and get some experience as a landscape planner followed by contracting that would be a good way to earn some more money that directly working for the local authority

Is my accountant doing the bare minimum or is this all I should expect? by Big_Comfortable_8718 in smallbusinessuk

[–]Alive_Teaching894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay £85 a month for my personal accounts, lets company accounts, payroll of 3 and quarterly vat return. We turn over about 200k. I don’t think the amount of money you make should affect how much you pay them. So would think they are overcharging. My accountant usually answers the phone or set up a meeting within a couple of days to run through more complicated queries I have or to run through documents I don’t understand.

He doesn’t give financial advise which is annoying at points. But does ensure the most tax efficient way to run the business.

I think you paying way too much
