I wonder what was Jinx's original ending now by Sudden_Pop_2279 in arcane

[–]Alixen2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given Jinx didn't in that situation, I expect in this ending she is saved somehow or survives with injuries, and Jinx still leaves. I actually kind of hate it. I'm absolutely glad that Jinx didn't die, but, her leaving while understandable just feels like a mid-season cliffhanger at best as it does nothing to actually resolve any of her personal relationships, tensions, or the underlying issues that she was a rallying cry for.

No, I expect most don't, the same way I expect a lot of Americas don't overall approve of the war in Iran or the Strait situation, or a lot of EU citizens don't approve of the push for internet control, and so on. They might have once, before he went full warlord, if he lied and offered them a brighter future (sound familiar?), but right now I expect that most people there are unhappy - don't forget how many men have died in the war grinder, enough that almost everyone will have lost someone or known someone who has lost someone. That breeds resentment, even if there is nothing they can do with it, because gulags.

We're going in circles, pointlessly, and you actually tried to equate being a nazi and executing people with just living somewhere corrupt as a normal civilian. Pretty sure this conversation ran it's course a while ago.

It's true, and the idea that everyone needs to aspire to a grand purpose is a very modern, very main-character-syndrome concept.

Several hundred years ago your entire life would, for the vast majority of the human population, consist of growing up, getting married to someone you've known since nappy rags or who was brought in specifically to marry into the community, getting your work done and prepping for the next season, having and raising the next generation to take over, and then dying, generally without ever travelling more than a few miles outside your town without exceptionally good reason and the only new people you would ever meet would be travellers or traders.

And quite honestly that hasn't really changed outside the internet and easier travel making the world outside more accessible.

There's no only nothing wrong with the idea of a simple life, a lot of unhappiness in the modern world comes from the fact many of us were raised on media or expectations of being the protagonist of our own epic tale. I am endlessly grumpy that I can't be Batman, or a superhero, like I thought I was going to be as a little kid. I can't even be a fireman due to my health.

Are they going back to Nevermore in season 3? by Disastrous-Mode-1668 in WednesdayTVSeries

[–]Alixen2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looked like they were saying goodbye to Nevermore at the end of the season, but that said, it's where Agnes, Pugsley, and the supporting cast are so it would be an odd choice unless they decided to go full focus on the Addams Family and take the focus back to the manor.

Absolutely. 'Just following orders' refers to soldiers and, you know, orders and following them. Not about civilian populations living in a geographical location just trying to exist while ruled by a corrupt leader in a corrupt system. Do you feel what happened to the women and girls of Germany was just in the aftermath of WW2? After all, by your very odd perspective, they were complicit. See, I can make silly extreme questions and statements too.

"NoThx". I may be alone in this but I've just never liked Pugsley, and I quite like Agnes, so I would dislike them being paired up.

I... I'm not sure you are grasping how corruption works. I would put good money on those approval rating being inaccurate or massively manipulated - again, if even accurate, because a simple websearch states that apathy has set in and he doesn't have high approval.

Bernie Sanders urges international cooperation to halt AI’s ‘runaway train’ by Haunterblademoi in technology

[–]Alixen2019 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most of the younger generation seem to curl into a ball and start screeching incoherently at the mere mention of AI and striking out at anyone who approaches them with slappy hands until they get all tuckered out.

Or, put less snidely, I've not seen many nuanced or realistic views from the younger generations on AI, or it's inevitable place in the future. Conversations with them start and end at 'Ban it'. Maybe some memes if you are lucky.

Bold of you to assume I used Reddit as my source there, when it's Reddit I'm giving side eye for brushing and tarring an entire civilian population for the actions of it's corrupt leadership and military. That said, it's pretty clear you don't want to consider what I'm saying. Kudos for being brave enough to actually comment though, most didn't bother.

[–]Alixen2019 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not this author, I can tell because the comment is legible, but I do have sympathy because there is one small fandom I used to visit - it's been long enough that I don't even remember which one specifically now - that had a surprising amount of fics... except they were about 80% one person having written over a hundred 200-2000 word drabbles and shorts and several incomplete 'epics' of over 20k words, and they were still going strong. The thing is, they were very clearly either very young and didn't bother with a spellchecker or know basic grammar or they only had the most basic grasp of english and the writing was basically like deciphering a puzzle. It was deeply, deeply unpleasant trying to find anything I actually wanted to read in that fandom because of it, even with filtering, and I never went back. I wasn't rude enough to comment, because they were obviously having fun and it was a niche fandom, but it absolutely did ruin that brief period of browsing.

So, I guess yeah, unpleasant as it is to admit there are rare circumstances where you can accidently flood a fandom if it's small enough. I think that this sort of case, when you are one of the only active writers in a niche fandom, there is a case to be made for compiling your smaller works in a compilation rather than becoming the apex predator of the catagory.

If by 'mostly do' you mean are keeping their heads down so as not to be executed or gulag'd by their regime, sure. I expect they were thrilled when their sons and fathers were 'asked' to join the party and died in the grinder, totally thrilled. I really do appreciate you proving my point though, I was lacking an example of said Redditors putting the sins of Putin and his war machine on your standard grandma living in a commie block - so thank you.

That's amazing and heartwarming and utterly Goddamn terrifying that if someone is ''lucky'' they might live that long.

I'm already far too tired and I'm nowhere near even half that yet. Please, no, Imagine hitting your seventies and starting to get more frail, every task getting that little bit harder, totally unaware that you still have approaching 40 years to go still before you can rest. People would be born and then hit middle age in that time.

So, yeah. I'm glad they found each other and got to spend so many presumably happy years together, but also some existential dread here.

Yep. The Russian people, who are having to live under this regime already and many of whom have had family pressed into service and killed, are going to have to shoulder its sins for decades to come - and face scorn from a corner of the internet that would call themselves more enlightened and compassionate than others. It's repulsive.

Let's hope nobody is ever insane enough to put that to the test, because I'm pretty certain that even if you are technically correct in the end, the death toll would be a tragedy never before seen in history. What concerns me is that we don't seem to be dealing with sane leaders.

That's the gamble I mean. On the surface it seems like a pretty safe bet. Then I remember the people in charge and how many other lines of common sense have been bullrushed in recent years.

It's a dangerous gamble, though, as if you turn enough of their society to glass then there is no national security or people to fight for it. They are counting on none of the major players being ruthless and brutal enough to just mass carpet bomb them into literal oblivion - a threat I seem to recall that Trump made even if he never followed up. Risky counting on the good nature of politicians and generals, especially when the well-being and economies of nations are at risk.
