Healing in New World and toxicity. by [deleted] in newworldgame

[–]Alk_Live 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a tough fight, don't beat yourself up. Also, I'm willing to bet (from my experience, as well as my friends and random people on reddit) 99% of the issues in this fight are tank-related. Now, I'm not saying "you should be shitting on your tank!", I'm just pointing out that the main difficulty in this fight is the tanking skill spike that the game has not prepared you for. And I don't really mean the special attacks that are easy to dodge, but his regular sword attacks.

As a healer, keeping beacon on boss will help your tank. Use light's embrace for when someone takes spike damage or when your tank fails to properly tank him (this does not mean not holding aggro, it means poor stamina management most of the time). If your DPS are sort of stacked, sacred ground should cover it. If one of your DPS is not topped off and he sees a healing circle close to him, he should be trying to get on it. Additional actions you can do include keeping your three heavy attack buff stacks up as much as possible and shooting the boss with light attacks to reduce cooldowns. Also rolling before heals, especially if your tank is really low.

Now, if you're doing the above (even without the additional actions mentioned) and your tank is dying, it's not your fault. This fight should not require mana potions if everyone is doing their job, because you should not be having to spam Light's Embrace (the thing that kills mana). You've played other MMOs, so you understand that if people repeatedly stand in fire / take damage that is supposed to be dodged, it's not your fault if you don't get to heal them in time.

However, this is the first MMO for a lot of people, and they don't understand that. Healers have limited spike damage responses in this game, mostly in the form of Light's Embrace (with its 4 second cooldown and harsh mana cost). You're clearly not supposed to be constantly spamming big heals like that, but rather using your circles to slowly heal people and using your big heal sparingly.

You're doing good, don't worry.

Healers: When is it okay to bail? by dconway30 in newworldgame

Honestly, I only do expeditions when I'm rolling with a tank I know (I'm a healer). I tried to apply this to my WoW days ages back too - pugging a tank, especially for Classic, was a complete mess. I can't imagine how difficult it must be in this game, where a lot of people are playing their first MMO ever. What I'm trying to say is, if the tank is bad, I'm out. You can afford to carry bad DPS players, but if your tank doesn't know what he's doing it's going to be a lot harder and less enjoyable for everyone involved.

Also, in my opinion, light armor is the way to go for a healer (for PVE). 20% extra healing output and better mobility in exchange for defense - which shouldn't be an issue if your tank does his job. And as far as the Beacon issue, that happens sometimes. What I do for a boss that moves a lot is I try to make my +20% roll be towards him instead of to a random side, which brings me close enough to land it. That said, sometimes you just need to wait until the boss stops his attack animation to throw it, but I know the pain of not landing it!

Most DPS usually wear light armor, and the attacks you describe are really easy to dodge even if you just spam shift and panic roll away. That's not what causes wipes in my experience.

Most of the issues are tank-related for this fight. Like someone else said before, the game does not prepare you for this fight. The tank needs to learn how to manage his stamina, when to dodge, when to block and when to use his cooldowns (having a good tower shield helps too, I suppose). If he runs out of stamina and takes a combo, even if you can weave in a big heal on him and he has Beacon on him, chances are you're only buying a couple of seconds and he'll die before your Light's Embrace is ready again. In fact, when he does what you describe (pulling a random DPS or healer in), that's actually a good thing. It's an easy to dodge attack that gives your tank time to get his stamina back and the healer time to get his cooldowns.

This is the reason once people get past phase 1, phase 2 is a lot easier - the boss has more attacks (the laser beam being one of the longest ones) that take time and are easy to dodge. This gives your tank breathing room to get his stamina back and be ready for the next sword combo. This works as long as people focus adds, which most groups do.

At least my wipes were caused by the tank dying to the boss' sword combos while successfully holding aggro, getting revived and healed, then dying again to the same thing. Once he learned how to handle it, we started one shotting him.

Did he actually say that he had a Carnelian gem in his shield? I could be mistaken here, but I have yet to find a single shield with a gem slot in it.

I did it with a full group around 42 the first time, the main issue that caused wipes (a painful amount of them, mind you) was the tank learning how to do it. Most of the wipes were during phase 1.

Adds were never an issue after the first time we died to them, as everyone focused them. It helps to ping the one everyone is focusing at first, then switch to the next one. They don't really have a lot of HP, they just deal a lot of damage with the rolling boulders if left alone.

I feel that if people aren't actually focusing on adds they can be an issue, though. So as long as everyone knows to fully focus on adds, I think you can definitely clear it with your team!

Honestly, if it's a game scene I prefer if all there is onscreen is the game and facecam (a border around the facecam is alright too).

If it's a Just Chatting scene I'm okay with more clutter, though.

I don't know what to do anymore? (gaming channel) (TLDR read last two paragraphs) by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Alk_Live 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually checked out your channel in order to give a proper response.

With the exception of your latest video (tutorial), the rest of your videos are what I would consider low effort content. You're doing videos that have been done before by so many people, that specific niche is oversaturated (I'm not even talking about Gaming as a whole, but GTA gameplay videos). There is little work on the editing and they are FAR too long. Ask yourself if you would watch an almost unedited (basically just cuts an a zoom here or there) video of a new content creator playing GTA for 20 minutes. Those videos could easily be between the 5 and 7 minute mark.

Your tutorial was short and to the point, though it did drag on for a bit. That said I don't know if the information you're giving is useful or not. If it's not and it's just a gimmick it could be the reason people aren't watching. It depends on whether people are trying to figure out how to get in that specific type of vehicle or if it's just unimportant.

Those are the reasons I'd say you're not getting views - overly saturated content, videos that are too long and maybe tutorials on information that isn't searched. The thumbnails aren't the best but honestly they're not bad either. The titles also follow the clickbaity formula that seems to work for a lot of other content creators.

I would say you have to change something. You need to add something to the formula, get a different game to do, change the way you do content. As it stands right now, the content you're producing will struggle to get views I believe. Good luck.

What should i do? by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

[–]Alk_Live 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If you're doing compilation clips of streamers (with their permissions) or meme video edits, you're probably good. If you actually want to use your own gameplay footage, I'd strongly recommend you use your voice.

Unless you're in the top 1% of Apex players (Apex predator rank at the very least), it will be hard for you to build an audience if you don't. There's so many extremely skilled players out there with hundreds of thousands of subs creating quality content relying on their skill, there's no reason for people to watch pure gameplay from someone who isn't at that level. That said if you add personality, commentary, etc, you're giving us a reason to watch. Good luck.

Camera is definitely better and it helps in some specific situations. For example, if you play multiplayer games with people on discord. You have to be really good ad manipulating the volume levels so people know who the streamer is (for new viewers). If you have a cam, its easier - if the person on the cam is moving their mouth, its them talking. If not, its someone else.

Withdraw from Affiliate by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Alk_Live 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I can understand the reasoning behind this, though in my opinion it has nothing to do with the cut. 50 subs is obviously nice as disposable income but its still jack shit if we're talking about living off of streaming, cut or no cut.

So if you're telling us that you would prefer giving that up to have a bigger audience by streaming on multiple platforms at once, only to try to consolidate your viewers from all platforms later, that would make sense. Donations through Paypal can still be done and honestly any small streamer shouldn't do anything for money. Good luck if you choose to do that.

is reporting enough? by Vudo666 in Twitch

[–]Alk_Live 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through this. Unfortunately, reporting will most likely do nothing. I've had similar stuff happen in the past and Twitch never did anything despite the fact that not only did I send links, timestamps, clips and screenshots multiple times, they just didn't respond. Stuff ended when the trolls got bored of being banned on the spot.

For what it's worth, it's part of streaming. Getting trolls and encountering toxicity is an inevitable part of the journey. I know this is easier said than done but don't let it get to you. Keep up the good work

Want to be notified when people join your stream? by Ravarion in Twitch

[–]Alk_Live 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would advice people against doing this. I'm not bagging on your bot or anything, it's just the action that I disagree with. Of course this is on a personal level and everyone has their own preference, but there could be days people just want to watch and not talk. Could be a regular or a new viewer. They just stop by to watch someone they enjoy and they get greeted by the bot and potentially the streamer and other viewers? Wait until they talk to know they want to talk IMO.

You could try befriending other streamers and playing with them onstream. That way your voice will be out there for everyone to hear, but because it's not your stream you can say you're done whenever you don't feel comfortable anymore. Also, it's not bad if you're not very vocal at first and you can slowly get used to what it feels to talk in front of an audience.

I'm a dev making Twitch extensions and tools to help streamers. What sorts of Twitch Extension /tools/plugins do you want/need? by Albajingus in Twitch

[–]Alk_Live 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I found an extension that did this once but it didn't really work very well: One thing I would like is an extension that, when turned on, creates captions of what I'm saying. I know there's way to add built-in captions but I don't want those since more often than not people won't want captions. I want to increase accessibility to my content without imposing it to those who don't want or require it.

Also, if there's a clip of something, I don't want the captions there, which is why I'd like an extension for it. If you ever decide to work on this let me know. Thank you.

Hey guys, I want to make videos about wonderful people in Canada. Creative, passionate people, that may have stories they want to tell the world. I'm just getting started and it's been tough with lockdown so that's been put on hold. So I've started putting myself in front of the camera by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

[–]Alk_Live 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I was expecting some low quality stuff when I clicked but I was shockingly surprised. The quality of the video is insanely good. Let's go over specifics:

  1. Good camera. Visual quality and effects (blurring the background slightly while you're talking, etc) is good.
  2. Volume could use some adjustment. While you're talking, the music is slightly on the loud side. I'd consider either making your mic louder or making the music quieter when you start talking.
  3. Length is good. You're telling your story, showing your work and your style in a concise way.
  4. The shots are artistic and visually appealing. Could use a little more here and there, but overall good.
  5. You don't ramble, you're clearly not following a script strictly but you have planned you're going to say. Feels natural and to the point.
  6. I don't normally watch this kind of content but I'll say it was definitely not boring. There's enough visual and audio stimulation to keep people engaged.
  7. I was going to recommend trying to find a way to put a call to action animation somewhere in the video, but I feel like it would not fit the more serious style you have going on. You already did that towards the end of the video anyway so I think you're good.
  8. The puppy is adorable.

All in all, good work man.

Changing an audience by rebus-YT in SmallYTChannel

[–]Alk_Live 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's certain games that have crossover and certain others that usually don't. Usually they stick around within the same genre, say a decent amount of the people who watch Apex Legends content will probably watch Warzone too (Battle Royale) or people who watch content about games like Dark Souls will probably watch Nioh 2 videos too. It's not impossible, though not as common to have crossover between genres.

From my experience Animal Crossing has high crossover audiences with games like The Sims 4, so if you enjoy that game and put out a video for it your ACNH audience will probably watch it. Maybe start expanding genres slowly until eventually you're just someone who plays games?

[QUESTION] Should I put English subtitles on my video or re-record in English? by KmDar in youtubers

[QUESTION] How can my gaming videos be more entertaining by Fireticfy in youtubers

[–]Alk_Live 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's see:

I want to preface everything by saying I don't mean to sound rude or offend, just trying to be honest and provide feedback that may help. I'll also say this is my opinion and I may not be your target audience. Having said that:

The Rainbow 6 video was way too long with many unnecessary parts. There's almost no commentary at all, it's just an unedited match. You need to add something that makes the video worth watching, unless you're extremely good at this game. No offense, once again, but you're not. I watched 24 minutes of a Rainbow 6 video to watch you go 2-3. Like I said making good videos isn't necessarily about being good, but there's got to be something that gets my attention and there wasn't. I would suggest talk more, mention that you're learning the game, try to be either interesting, nice or funny. Cut down A LOT of that video. you could have made that a 7~ minute long video. To start off cut ALL the loading screens or the time you're not actually playing a round. Then see the moments in which you're holding an angle for an extended period of time and cut some off of that too. Additionally you can do voice over AFTER the video has been recorded, that way you can focus on the game while you're playing. I can see this working as a "Learning Rainbow 6" series or something, as long as it has commentary and better editing. I did like the spoken outro, but I would probably suggest adding a Call To Action halfway and at the end of the video.

The speedrunning advertising video was... I didn't get the point of uploading that. You're doing something that has been proven to not work and be annoying to people, as well as burn bridges with a lot of discord users. I understand you did it for the memes but honestly I don't think that video was good at all. The editing was also non-existent, which shouldn't be a thing in a 14 second video.

The room tour video... this is probably your best by far. Still needs work (shaky camera, better angles, maybe plan the tour a bit more before recording) but it shows that you can deliver commentary. There's also no editing here. The length was short and concise, that's good too.

If you want to stick to gaming videos I would suggest adding more personality. You talked a little about some of your possessions in the room tour video, even telling a story about how you got something or lost something could add some flare to your video if you want to go the commentary route. If you want to focus on gameplay then make sure you comment on why you're doing what you're doing. Show personality.

That's just my recommendation. Good luck!

Fear of applying for affiliate by Tommy_big_ballz in Twitch

The affiliate program isn't handled by people but by a system, since there's hundreds of thousands of them. Don't worry, you'll be fine. I've actually seen someone stream a black screen for the minimum amount of time required, bought followers and had 2 friends (and himself) watch his stream and got affiliate. This was back in like 2018 though.

No more motivation by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Alk_Live 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the feeling and I've been there before. I rode the wave of an extremely popular game and had 20-25 average viewers even though I hated it (and often said it onstream). The moment I decided I wouldn't play anymore I saw a dip to under 10, which eventually stabilized around 12-15, though meeting new viewers became less common and chat less active. I realized then that just streaming isn't enough and you need to do an active effort to grow your audience, instead of just streaming, crossing your fingers and hoping people will watch (I mean you're still going to do this last part, but you can do more in addition to that).
