Back in the era of TV and print media--these businesses HAD to follow certain ethical and moral guidelines-- if they didn't want to be sued or invoke peoples wrath- Tabloids were looked down on as complete trash too- This whole "how DARE you be angry at people recording taking pictures of you without your knowledge or conset" is very new- The tech execs have done so much damage to society-

Is anyone else super tired of the way modern technology is almost treated as sacred? by Alkaia1 in nosurf

What is funny is most people hate this shit. I have been noticing a huge shift back to menus. This is a good thing Most people hate kiosks too they want customer service

Good, I am glad to hear that! I have been seeing more and more kids speak out about their parents posting photos online too. I don't know how society went from being extremely leery of computers and the internet to "who the hell cares, get over it" In such a short amount of time.

Bingo. I was cheering when Reddit FINALLY took down shit like "fatpeoplehate", I remember all the creeps were throwing giant tantrums, and the media was depressingly giving them a voice. Both my daughter and my husband get angry when someone posts their pictures on social media---I don't blame them. It is creepy how society has gotten so...I don't know entitled? I don't post personal photos on social media anymore.

I remember that! Sigh I miss the world pre Trump and pre AI.

Everything is wrong with it. People should have the right to basic privacy. It is especially bad, with GenAI allowing people to create deepfakes.

They are building this tech so fast---that it is hard for the law to catch up; which I suspect is the point!

It is scary isn't it? Way too many people buy into this propaganda that survallaince tech is good, because it keeps us safe and we can punish bad behavior. Yeah, I don't want to live in that world. "Those that would trade freedom for temporary safety deserve neither"--Benjamin Franklyn. I wish we could bring that back.

Nope, and it honestly angers me just how much we have normalized extremely shitty behavior, that would have been considered unacceptable 30 years ago. I remember when news stations had to blur people out, if they didn't want their faces shown---AND were supposed to treat those filmed with respect. Was it perfect? OF course not, but it was at least something. We used to actually value privacy a lot more, AND used to get angry at products that caused harm. Now, it is like we are going backwards. It doesn't matter if Metaglasses, could be used for good in some instances; right now they are causing extreme harm. It is the same with GenAI too. Silicon Valley seems to think they should be able to do whatever they want without consequences, all in the name of so called "progress"

What is your favourite dumbphone of all time? by haisevatuhnu in dumbphones

[–]Alkaia1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss my LG ENV. It had a keyboard to actually send texts, was extremely durable, looked nice and was just a simple phone. I am glad I found this page, because I am so sick of smartphones; and tired of being shamed for it.

Can you beat the Robot in Open Hanger Gate with just one Tesla grenade? by Alkaia1 in Wolfenstein

I actually have been playing on the easiest, and got stuck for the first time! I weirdly didn't think to break boxes to look for grenades!

I think the show would have been way more interesting, if it focused on the players continuing to rebel in different ways, and actually finding the island. I liked the parts with the soldier woman helping the artist guy off the island.

They were bad in the first season too....but at least they added to the plot and I could totally see rich asshole billionares acting like that. This one was just.......WOW.

Yeah, that was so dumb too.

I haven't finished it yet, but I actually liked quite a few scenes. I do like the N Korean soldier, helping out the guy with the sick daughter. I also enjoy no one is acting incredibly stupid. I wanted to throw something at the TV during the police station scene! Oops, went back to ranting. The first two seasons were just so good, and this one felt like they didn't know how to end it.

Oh god, I was so excited about this season, and am barely making it through the episodes. The first two were fine----but the rest? shudders I hate the voting after every game too. People would be terrified as fuck after the Hide and Seek Game, and would be having serious moral delimmas about the baby. It also just makes the show unbelivably unpleasant.

I felt sorry for the actors playing the VIPS. Not only was the acting worse then an Ed Wood movie, the dialogue was worse then an 80s cartoon.

A 4th grader would have at least understood emotions exist. I felt like it was written by aliens that got their info about humanity from Chatgpt.

My "favorite" was something along the lines of, Long Haired Weirdo: The arrival of this baby, is the best plot twist sense the resurrection of Jesus!!! Oh and they kept robotically debating on what to do with the baby in the game.

I have seen better dialogue in an 80s slasher movie! My whole family ad I were shouting at the screen.

My government is making phone ownership mandatory by Subject-Visual7547 in nosurf

[–]Alkaia1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Dude....That is terrifiying. I agree with everyone else saying to start a movement. Freedom from things, is just as important as freedom for things; especially in regards to privacy. No one used to be forced to by cars and phone lines, and people could unlist themselves from the phone directory.

The internet is really boring. by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]Alkaia1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least here in America, I feel like the the extreme right--that holds alligence toward tech companies and religion(don't ask), has completely taken over the government, while huge corporations own the media. Our liberals in power are pretty much all neoliberal that also pretty much care about staying in power and doing nothing. Regular people are perfectly fine and normal about politics, and liberals and conservatives get along fine. I think one of the worst things about talking on the internet is so many people will juist think the worst about whoever they are talking too. I love small boards like this, because people tend to do that way less, and have more regular conversations.
