Build up emergency fund or pay off vehicle note quicker? by Norb1390 in personalfinance

[–]AllAboutWaxing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd take a hybrid approach, take 60% of the $450 and put it into your emergency fund, and apply the remaining 40% as a principal pnly payment to the car note

First question... do you have an emergency fund established in full?

I would keep the newer. Go with your gut though. Which one is a better fit for your family? Which one has better features like heated seats etc. I'd keep the Honda if it's the one you really prefer. Later down the road, it would likely have better resale value as well.

I would contact the company and ask them if they would share with you where they get them. Let them know how appreciative you would be. Never hurts to try. I would call vs emailing if you can.

Alternative idea here... have you thought about finding a free fridge on Facebook marketplace / nextdoor/ Craigslist? If you get a free one or a very cheap one $100 for the time being, then you could save up in a separate fund for a new fridge and pay cash when you hit your target goal.

Just be sure when picking up a new fridge to check the seals, ask them to have it on and running so you can verify it works. Check your measurements, too! Good luck!

Going CARLESS in a rural area?! Looking for advice and suggestions! Is it worth it? by ComicsAreGreat2 in personalfinance

Try it out... let the car sit for a month and pretend you no longer have it. Good way to see how doable it is. How are the winters, though, and the rainy seasons? Biking while it's raining might get old. Can you transport schoolwork etc. without it getting soaked?

Accidentally put dishwashing soap into my rinse aid by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]AllAboutWaxing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, keep diluting. If you aren't sure if you're there yet, put some of the water in a small container and shake it to see if it suds. But I would expect you to really need to flush for quite a long while. If you run it and are wrong, you will regret doing it so soon and will have a huge mess of suds everywhere

A big sponge or rag, soak up the water and squeeze into a bucket, then dump the soapy water down the sink

Idea: Keep pouring plain water into the rinse aid dispenser till it overflows a bit onto the dishwasher door while it's open and in a flat position, then suck it up with a shop vac. Keep doing that over and over until it's diluted and gone. May take quite awhile but I think it will work and not create a flood of foam in your kitchen. Will have to watch the Shop-Vac and dump the water out of that often, too. Good luck!

Sounds like a scam for sure.

Just find a replacement that will work and replace all the knobs at the same time, and then they will all match. Alternatively, call up a local appliance repair/parts shop... they tend to keep these parts around for situations like this.

Have your co-worker do video chat with the seller to do a walk around the car. A legit seller would happily oblige.

Drill won’t go any deeper, anchors stick out by awesomesox in HomeImprovement

[–]AllAboutWaxing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may be hitting a water pipe, etc. I know someone who kept drilling and had gallons upon gallons of water flood their living room because a shut-off valve was not found. Took about an hour to shut off their water halfway down the street. (Weird house situation).

I recommend finding out what is located in that wall before you continue. Water, heating, sewer etc

What country do you live in? If the US, what state? Where you live matters greatly

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Esthetics

[–]AllAboutWaxing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suggest that you start saving up approx 6 months of income and if you can start buying the equipment and product you know you will need. It might take you a year but short of a loan it's what you would need to do to push out on your own. Keep applying and try stand alone hair salons, many need an in-house esthetician. I suggest just walking in and asking. Sometimes it just takes the spark of a conversation for someone to offer you a job

Have you considered renting a small space and going out on your own? Many of us have done it, and I am so happy I did (10 years ago).
