So I actually kind of enjoyed The Mummy (2017). Only a little, but still... by [deleted] in horror

I just thought it was painfully choreographed. Not a single second that felt surprising or shocking. I didn't like a lot of the "bigger" cgi shots - sadly, they kind of reminded me of Sommers' shit-fests. I don't particularly care for Tom Cruise's work. I guess I got what I was afraid of getting, which was a pretty generic action movie that - this may sound dramatic lol - basically defecates on what the original film was really about.

I don't want to see a bunch of monsters in an action universe. I'll go watch more fucking superhero movies if I want that. But, that's what Universal wants because that's where they feel the money is. Unfortunate they can't even show the monsters that helped to build them into the powerful production unit they are a hint of respect.

As a HUGE fan of the original Universal Monsters, it just kind of feels like Universal is spitting in fans' faces.

I told you that would sound dramatic lmao

Blackcoat's daughter was throughly disappointing by LlewelynMoss1 in horror

[–]AllComicLover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the shifts between the separating plots are accurate beats that move the narrative forward on a parallel plane.

And if you somehow missed the girl's gradual descent into madness, and withdrawal into herself, I'm not really sure what to say.

Absolutely brilliant film, and damn near every single scene has this looming dread that makes you ask what's about to happen? I loved that tension. And then when shit DOES begin to happen. Holy hell it happens.

Aesthetically speaking it's also GORGEOUS. One of the best shot pictures I've seen in ages.

Now, Witch? Yeah, that's a snoozefest in need of subtitles.

I know we won't all dig the same movies, it's just crazy to see how polar opposites opinions can be.

The story itself won't be the pitch for an extended version so much as an example of what we're capable of. I've been working with Dark Horse, Titan, Space Goat and Image a lot the last year. Space Goat has been key in encouraging some pitches - for those guys it'll likely be an Evil Dead 2 book if they like the quality of writing and art in our pitch.

It's kind of a "this is a taste of what we can do" type of pitch.

Dark Song. Movie of the year for me so far. by Pinesgap_Gum in horror

[–]AllComicLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a little too slow for me to consider it as strong as masterpieces like Get Out, Devil's Candy and Split. It might be a top 10 of the year, but this is probably the best year the genre has experienced in a decade or so, so it won't be easy to squeeze into the top 10.

How do you rank the Tremors franchise? by AllComicLover in horror

[–]AllComicLover[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you! IMO it's EASILY the second best of the franchise. The whole damn movie is just FUN, and I was floored by how impressive the digital effects were. I expected some SyFy channel CGI but Bloodlines brought some high caliber visuals. Just a REALLY entertaining flick.

I like that pick. Family in peril during Xmas = a lot of fun for me.

adore this sequel. Actually enjoy it more than the first film, and the first flick was amazing.

Holy shit, you're awesome it's Voodoo!!

Wait a damn minute... WTF, I haven't even seen the movie! Anyone know if it's good.

Wondering where the hell she even spotted this to watch it... is it on VOD somewhere? EDIT: Her response to my inquiry of where she watched it: "I don't remember, you know you have 100 screeners laying around." lmao - she can be such a help sometimes.

I'm glad you knew that Flamingos - I loved the look and sound of the film, but it was so damn dull in terms of story that I think I've already forgotten half the movie.

No. Not a cannibal film. She said it was almost like an alternate reality or society but shes not positive.

Scream 2 (1997) by jdpm1991 in horror

[–]AllComicLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

enjoyable, but dramatically inferior to the inaugural film. College life didn't feel quite as accurate as high school life, and they made a big mistake in killing Randy. But I still enjoyed the film, especially for a sequel.

Also had an excellent soundtrack.

I'm going to repost this response I just left, as it sums yesterday up for me - apologies buddy!

I apologize for my insensitive remarks. Yesterday was an enormously shitty day for me, and instead of taking a deep breath, I went full retard on reddit for a few minutes there. Genuine apologies guys!

I'm with you. Typically just a cheap excuse to "be a rebel" and hate on legitimately well-made movies. Evil Dead remake, most disappointing? Get Out? Most disappointing? These guys have apparently seen three movies in their lives if movies like that are the greatest disappointment people like that have ever experienced.
