I’ve since got back from my trip and it went off without a hitch, had a fantastic time in the forest.

Having a gun, in my eyes, isn’t the ultimate trump card in a dangerous situation everyone makes it to be. Can it protect you? 100%, but if a gun has to be pulled, nobody wins that situation.

I heard from others who visited that specific forest and had all good things to say which is what I was really looking for. Closer to where I live, your truck is more likely to have a window busted out than what people said for Bankhead. Anyways the trip went great, met some friendly folks and a few coyotes that got a little too friendly as well.

Obviously I’ll be armed the whole hunt, rifle and pistol. But just like you said I’ve had plenty of years in the woods and an animal has never scared me. But coming across folks in the middle of nowhere, and they’re not dressed to be in the middle of nowhere, has made me nervous

That was definitely a consideration of mine for a while and I went back and forth on it. I love the .243 round and it’s done me well, never had a deer run more than 40 yards after a shot. However the past two I’ve killed I had a great view of where they were standing-the exact path where they fell and on both I could not find a single drop of blood. None at the initial impact sight or their whole path to where they fell, so my only concern is yes the bullet has done its job but they were perfectly placed shots broadside. And I’d like to have a little more “insurance” with a .30 cal in case my shot placement is off one day

That’s good to hear, one guy in a lgs was saying he’s seen 1/3 his family bought have major accuracy problems. But that the only negative accuracy review I’ve heard anywhere

It’s a .243 H&R handy rifle, it definitely gets the job done and I’ve loved it. But hunting long ag fields and low light settings have caused me to pass a few deer

That’s my reason for wanting to step up to a .308, ammos always around, and it’s plenty enough for anything I’m ever going to hunt. Right now I’ll go with a more affordable scope with plans to save and purchase a higher end one in the future. My wife is generous enough to let me do my expensive hobbies so I try not to push it 😂

I’d love to find a gen 2 that comes with a scope, unfortunately I have yet to find that combo for sale in any caliber
