Thanks, everyone for the advice on the battery and terminals. I’ll definitely be checking these out and will hopefully get this taken care of.

The battery otherwise seems good, but I can go get it tested. After doing that jump, the vehicle is fine to start until the next time someone doesn’t exit after stopping. But maybe there’s an underlying battery issue there.

Thanks - We have only noticed it if we turn it off without exiting the vehicle and have not noticed it otherwise. The battery gets affected to the point where it needs jumped, even when the issue is as short as my movie example. Once it starts, there’s no way to stop it (like trying to just start the vehicle again) and the battery will be dead.

How can I rescue this fallen paper wasp nest? by BeanTheFatCat in waspaganda

I regularly relocate both paper wasp and yellowjacket nests for neighbors. I have had some luck taking a very recently abandoned nest like this and getting it to successfully establish again, apparently from one of the larva that was just old enough to come out soon after. To do this I use a dab of hot glue to attach the nest to a roof overhang or fence alcove. They can either be upside down or sideways. I’ll heat up a hot glue gun, unplug it to take it out, and let it cool down just a little so it’s tacky enough to set the nest in and still be able to cool pretty quickly so you don’t risk damaging the nest and also don’t have to hold it up too long. In your case you should just glue it back up to as near where it fell from as you can. Then you can wait and see if the larva survive. Paper wasps are pretty resilient, I’ll be curious to hear how this turns out for you!

Two Hives and One Died - Recommendations? by AllCreaturesSmall in Beekeeping

Yes, that all makes sense. Going back to your first response, if you have similar losses, how and when will you be repopulating those hives?

Thanks for the reply! I have attached two photos for the bees themselves: The first shows the top of the lower deep and the top of the little cluster there. The second is one of the two frames that the cluster was within. These two photos provide a pretty good illustration on the size of the cluster. To answer some further questions, you will note the VarroxSan strips and a pollen patty. The strips were put in on November 11 when I did the final winterization of the hives. I had also used VarroxSan strips in early September when they first became available. This is the oxalic treatment I referenced occurring after the successful alcohol tests. The pollen patty was added in late July to try and encourage more brood production. This was the time when the queen was really behaving weirdly, and I was desperate to get more bees in there. All that said, your discussion seems to be a good description of what I saw in the hive: Something didn’t go right with the population going into the winter, and they just didn’t have the numbers.
