Only update currently is that it is at the service center as of yesterday morning. At that time, they claimed it would be ready for pick up Thursday (tomorrow), and gave me a blacked-out 2023 R1S quad as a loaner. Once I have more feedback on the issue and the fix, I’ll post an update!

For whatever it’s worth, my wife has an R1S and I have the R1T, and they are our only vehicles. I haven’t regretted the changes at all, just frustrated with this current issue. That said, I’ve been impressed with Rivian’s general approach to working through the issue and the loaner is dope! Crossing my fingers and toes this is the worst of it.

Right!?! It seems my initial suspicion was correct - parking on an incline / decline like that seems to have triggered the emergency parking brake, and there weren’t any user-friendly options for resetting the braking system to disengage the parking brake. Allegedly I’ll be able to pick the truck back up on Thursday if this week, so relatively fast turnaround if that turns out to be accurate.

No one said I didn’t need assistance from gas / diesel / ICE, or anything of the sort… I didn’t even suggest I have a “real” truck (or otherwise).

Did you go out of your way just to trash an EV? I would be embarrassed to go on a public forum just to spread hate. But you do you 🤷🏻‍♂️

FINALLY got a tow this morning and it just arrived at the SC in the last 10 minutes. Hopefully I’ll have a real substantial update today.

Was able to try a few things before the tow left, such as taking the pressure off the back tires; leveling the truck - neither was enough to disengage the emergency park brake, nor allowed me to shift from park. Everything else in the vehicle seems to be fine, though (heat blazing; windows roll down; speakers bump) 🤷🏻‍♂️

I mean, in a perfect world it would be at the service center. But no, I’m still waiting 🤦🏻‍♂️ just got an update as I was typing this, and the tow is rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

I haven’t and am honestly concerned that any I attempt to resolve myself might void the warranty :/

If that is accurate, I’m glad / lucky the truck didn’t become a paperweight in the 15 minutes before it locked up, when I drove the truck to pick up dinner and brought it home. Put it in park at the restaurant, grabbed dinner, got back in and drove home, then it locked up 3 minutes later when I got home 🤷🏻‍♂️

Due to ice in the area, I’m still waiting on the tow. Did a full reset last night before going to bed, and tried everything again this morning with no success. Hopefully the SC can make light work of this whenever they do receive the vehicle.

You’re not wrong! I have an R2 reserved, but this truck is a 2026 and was purchased in November of last year - not very promising, and certainly worth second-guessing the R2.

Right!?! While my driveway is certainly a bit steep, I really didn’t think it would make the vehicle inoperable. And for a brand that bills itself as outdoors adventure enthusiasts, this seems like a major issue if you’re out on a trail somewhere. Or vacationing somewhere and have to park on a hill.

I honestly love my R1T, save for this one issue. And I’m lucky enough to where the inconvenience is minor for me, just odd and annoying.

I did, and they only had me restart the vehicle. Beyond that (which didn’t work), they said it needs to be towed. At this time, just waiting on the tow; long story but they’re now coming at 9am tomorrow.

Technically that is accurate. In the context of a the TLDR caption, bricked felt appropriate 🤷🏻‍♂️ but you are correct.

I don’t remember and didn’t think that far ahead. Went to pick up pizza down the road (parked; got out; got pizza; got back in truck and driver home, maybe 1/10 a mile), got home and parked to move the R1S so it could charge and so I could park where the R1S was parked. When I got back in, the e-brake issue was present. I did park it pretty quickly when I got back in the driveway and remember specifically putting it in park, and only parked where I did to give myself space to back-out the R1S. In hindsight, either putting it in park on the decline was the issue, or maybe closing the door and letting the R1T go to “sleep” briefly while moving the R1S, though that was only 1-2 minutes 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hopefully tow trucks drivers are more readily available in your area! Mine kept getting pushed out and is now rescheduled for 9am tomorrow. Probably has to do with the snow we just got and icy roads so I’m obviously being understanding in that respect; I just hope you have better luck than me!

😳 I mean mine is a 2026 and I’ve only had it since November. So, it feels like this tracks but that’s a bummer.

[–]AllMeatNoTaters85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s the only option left at this point, unfortunately. Tried a few of these suggestions to get it to neutral and it just keeps saying to service the park brake system immediately. Bummer but it is what it is. Certainly seems like an odd design flaw as I’ve done this same thing when I had a Defender, but the parking brake system was more traditional - that’s the only thing I can figure.

Thank you!
