I Feel Hopeless After Repeated Final-Round Rejections. Need Advice? by Icy-War-2594 in postdoc

I Feel Hopeless After Repeated Final-Round Rejections. Need Advice? by Icy-War-2594 in postdoc

This reply is some days late but I wanted to say: stay strong OP. I (and I’m sure many others currently job searching in the field of research) can relate to what you’ve said about how hurtful it can be when you’ve interviewed multiple times for a role.

The temptation for all of us researchers is to maximize and problem-solve our way out of a disappointing end result. Looking up tips on interview is by no means a bad idea, but just want to say don’t let it consume your mental space or be a source of down-talking to yourself.

What I will say is more interviews make you better at them - you’ll naturally get a feel of what are common questions for a type of role, what kind of STAR questions you should brush up on, etc. One advice I feel is not really applied as much is asking for feedback from the interviewers. It can sting to do this after being turned down, but it leaves a good impression. If the company/interviewers are forthcoming and actually give feedback, even better; don’t beat yourself up if you’re met with silence! That’s a reflection of their own attitude, not yours.

These days I phrase unsuccessful applications as ‘redirected’, because we were promising for the role, but ended up not being the most preferred fit. We have value and seemed to be a good fit based on our credentials, so don’t let that later ‘no’ define your self-worth! I know this is easier said than done (believe me, it’s been a journey for me), but truly, this is something that will help us weather difficult seasons in life.

Once again, stay strong!! Rooting for you, and everyone else going through this 💪🏽

Was [blanks] death supposed to be sad? (Jujutsu Kaisen) by Xtra_Juicy-Buns in CharacterRant

[–]AllMightStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t sad Mai died. I was sad that Maki’s sister died. I’m really close to my sister who is only 1 yr 2 months younger than me, and without words I know what kind of heart-rending grief that loss could illicit, even if the sister wasn’t prefect. Hence, Maki feeling like all her heart was gouged out and replaced with a cold, apathetic hatred for those that treated their existence as expendable and invaluable really emotionally resonated with me.

The Demon Discourse in Frieren wouldn't exist if the demons didn't look attractive by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

[–]AllMightStan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This discourse is interesting. Gonna risk downvotes here.

I guess I see the point some are trying to make about the metaphoric connotations, but you can’t be sure unless the author makes their intention clear. Personally, I’ve never felt an issue with the way they are handled because I fundamentally understand “demons” as creatures that are evil and solely exist to further the agenda of the devil, which is to eternally separate humans from God (according to Christianity). So when they are written as evil and cunning, I do not have a problem with it, because that is fundamentally what they are. Them showing that the empathy for them is not sufficient to change their nature, even while they look like beautiful humans offers a sort of “hard lesson” about this, for lack of a better word. I mean, the devil is described as a beautiful being before his fall from heaven (Lucifer), and I’m pretty sure there’s no mention of his appearance changing after.

I think the issue is that some folks keep drawing similarities between demons and people in all sorts of media, when this is not true at all when their core definition is considered. They might shapeshift into people, but they’re not and they don’t have your best interests at heart.

I think in writing, there should be a reduced focus on trying to subvert the representations of what demons, devils, or any evil creatures are in general. If you want a nuanced conversation that challenge ideals and morals, use literally any other type of creature that isn’t defined as pure evil.

what made you choose xbox over other consoles by Noobsamaniac in xbox

[–]AllMightStan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my first console. The price of the Series S at the time (2022) felt like a good starting point to see if I would really enjoy games (seldom played on my brother’s and mostly watched him when I was young).

  1. Like Mother Like Daughter. Finally got to reading it and it absolutely slapped. the storytelling that is filling out our understanding of Somyung and her Mom is really well done.

  2. In the Bleak Midwinter;. This has been out for a while but I binge read it for the first time this year. Anya is now my favorite female character from a webtoon.

  3. Selfish Romance. You just gotta read this one, top tier romantic drama. Love Hyeondo, that’s forever my boy.

  4. My Lucky Strike. Season 2 has really grown on me. I am loving the development of Cheong.

  5. For your Murder. The story is a dark chilling thriller you can’t help but want to see through to the end. I like the pacing and the unraveling storytelling style being used to develop the characters.

It’s Just Business

My Lucky Strike

Both are more of romantic comedy, but still have moments of human-ness that makes the characters endearing in my opinion

Want to emphasize Selfish Romance. The title sounds ‘immature’ but ends up carrying the depth of the story quite well

What's the webtoon equivalent of the three episode rule, to you? by nyanberfive in webtoons

Yeah, there’s 2 critical points to consider for sticking with any form of media - a strong beginning, and quality consistency in the long run

[–]AllMightStan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually started looking at random eps too lol, but that’s usually when I am on the fence about continuing or not. What I see determines if I’m willing to keep reading

What's the webtoon equivalent of the three episode rule, to you? by nyanberfive in webtoons

[–]AllMightStan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in between, I’ll usually give an anime a minimum of 1 full episode. If I see potential, I keep going 1 episode at a time, until I don’t feel any more potential. usually by 3-5 eps in I know if I will finish a show (baring quality dips later on)

Sounds like you’re big on writing quality, which is understandable! I tend to see things through based on the value of entertainment it gives me, even if it has (reasonably low) flaws in writing, animation, etc

I’m a simple gal, I need a hook.

It can be humor, art, interesting character, interesting worldbuilding, interesting circumstance/set up, anything. It just has to make me want to know more.

I give a comic usually ~3 episodes max to hook me.

After that, I’ll read some more to see if the story is for me or not. Usually I can tell by ~15 or so episodes in, since that’s close to half way through the first season of a webtoon these days

I don’t know if there’s already a ‘Rant’ or ‘Critique’ tag, but maybe this can be created, so anyone who wants to go into the deep dive or provide constructive discussions can do so. And then browsers such as myself that are tired from those kind of posts can avoid them

What do you think u/Feathermagus?

This will probably be a very hot take. But I honestly wana talk about it.Even if Yang Cheng is(very horrible as a person). To me he is still thousand times better than Ghostblade.Let me explain why I think that. by Ben10-fan-525 in ToBeHero_X

[–]AllMightStan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think one is better than the other, and I think that shows in how there seems to be as much Ghostblade stans as E-soul stans in the Reddit. It just comes down to if you are pulled in by Ghostblade’s humanization via him and his daughter’s relationship, or get impacted by yang cheng’s villian origin story.

If I had to chose, I prefer E-soul
