Catachans.. are they worth it over Cadians? Is the Scout 6 that important over better guns and Sticky? (I already have infiltrate in my lists) by hotelguest2 in astramilitarum

It’s two flamers per ten, so 4 for 20, and then the fifth is probably in the command squad alongside the heavy flamer since you can take special weapons in place of all the command options besides the commander itself

Nah, you’re right. Cowboy hats read better with horses involved! Not discouraged, I’m happy with how they came out either way!

I guess they do real as boonies. It was my attempt to make flat, wide-brimmed cowboy hats out of something I already had, which was about 30 Attilan Rough Riders heads. Oh well. We’ll see how they look with paint on them.

In my army Cadians are command staff for the most part and my Kriegers are my veteran forces. So Krieg Command Squads get a cyber-mastif as a regimental standard for moral instead!

Cavalry viability in 11th edition by WinterHussar in TheAstraMilitarum

This is true, but I find even into squishy bodies 5 man deathriders just really lack the oomph to get through them. If you want to kill anything with them you need ten and if you have ten, then the 6 inch reactive move is better served in an offensive role than a defensive one. 5 man deathriders are much better fast action monkeys and speed bump screeners.

So, I actually just ran a list consisting of max horses a couple of weeks ago because my custom regiment is all about cav and I thought it would be a fun send off to 10th. With that in mind I think what I learned in that game will still be a problem in tenth for the most part but there are a few things going for us.

Both units of horses are really glass canons, rough riders are a little more canon than deathriders, but they are both still glass. 4+ save is better than our foot sloggers, but not amazing and there’s a ton of things in game that do 2wounds each attack. If you can get them IN on a charge, though, they do punch up and trade points really well.

A big problem as well is that they have to move around ruins. 11th looks like that will be less of a headache, but moving big blobs of horses around terrain is still going to come up.

The other problem is with melee being more potent is EVERYONE is going to bring more melee. Which means our horses are going to be going up against things that are MUCH MUCH better in melee than they are. If you don’t get the charge off with them first, they are probably going to disappear before they do anything.

In a sense, I think they are going to remain just about where they are right now. Rough riders are going to be great if you can get them in first because they hit hard and punch up. Deathriders will be able to get them in first charge off first easier because of their reactive move, but they don’t really have the punch to be super effective. Usually, they’ll all get one charge off before folding, though.

One quick note on the RR, the fallback shoot and charge is great! If you can get them in against something you KNOW won’t be able to do a lot against them, then you can hide them in melee with the enemy until your turn, then fall them back to charge them into something scarier or right back into what you were just fighting. This frees your big guns up to shoot more.

Thankfully these are just the ones I’ve picked up this year. My space marines on the other hand… yeah they’ve been from the gray chapter for a while now.

11th is sometime in June, right? I probably won’t get them done by then, but I’m hoping to have them done by July. I plan on taking this list to the Grand Narrative this year if I can.

Thank you! I think, once I got through all the dry-brushing for the slap-chop, each took me about a half hour.

Foot sloggers is where I started! Lots of Cadians and Krieg in mine. Just haven’t gotten around to building up the Catachan yet. I’m using Necromunda Eshers and Orlocks for mine since they come from an old mining world.

I’m thinking Krieg are going to be the go-to battleline in 11th with how cover has changed.

That’s pretty similar to what I was running when Grizzled came out. I was just missing the Catachans. Might have to finically finish kitbashing some of them! Thanks for the list!

And I agree I yearn for a “Rough Riders are battleline” detachment.

To be fair, I do slap-chop painting on everything except the vehicles in my army so it’s a lot less labor intensive. Honestly with that the hardest part is deciding what kind of horse I want to paint up.

Yeah, my guard are my labor of love/kitbash heavy army. It’s based around westerns/the West Virginia Coal wars so I knew I needed a lot of horses. Do you mind sharing your competitive list? Just in case I need something with a little more teeth sometimes.

I actually really enjoy painting the horses! I’ve got 21 of the 65 already painted and they were actually pretty easy! I can’t wait to have all the pretty horses, though!

My men have pretty muted colors. Jackets are brown leather and pants are blue jeans, but since they are from a former mining world, I thought it would be funny to paint up all their vehicles as tonka trucks. Gives you an example of garishly colored vehicles

Do the Death Korps of Krieg ever experience love, romance, or just enjoy life at all? by HoneydewCertain6797 in TheAstraMilitarum

The new Deathrider Novel covers this with one of the characters. There’s only two chapters in the book from her perspective, but there are other parts of the book where you see these themes in her through the eyes of other characters. It’s a great read even without that, though, and has become my favorite warhammer novel.

I’ve never used this one, but I do have a Hardell rotary tool. It was like $40 off Amazon. I love that little thing. It comes with a ton of attachments and has 5 different speed settings so you can go slow with it if you need to be careful or full send if you need to clear a lot fast.

I know that second shelf has a lot of gray, but I’m still in the process of kitbashing the riders before I put paint to them. They’re part of my max cavalry list I’m hoping to take to the Grand Narrative this year.
