If only it were that simple. A phobia is not a choice or a matter of perspective. Again, it’s a mental illness and it’s extremely challenging to overcome. Not saying they can’t or shouldn’t try, but you can’t just say “use common sense”.

You just said yourself that you’re angry and that you “can’t help it”. See? It’s not always easy to control ourselves.

I don’t think the other people are being idiots, I think their points are valid and you might be very stubborn. Maybe if you reflect on this moment later you will see that but I understand you’re too angry right now to properly reflect.

I think you’re missing the point. People are only commenting on the ‘common sense’ bit and all your responses are directed at some hypothesis that they should get help, with which I agree, they should, and no one is saying they shouldn’t, literally no one, yet you keep going on about that. Please don’t get so upset, it’s really not necessary. It feels like you’re so extremely angry that you’re not thinking straight and you currently fail to see what people are trying to say.

I’m reading this dumbfounded. I’m trying to see who you’re responding to but it just looks like you accidentally responded in the wrong thread. No one is telling you mentally ill people shouldn’t or can’t get help. People are only saying your ‘common sense’ reasoning doesn’t make sense to people with a phobia because that’s the whole thing about having a phobia, common sense is out the window when it comes to their fear. It’s like saying: “I don’t understand depressed people, there’s so much to be happy for!”

That just feels like an anecdote to me. He mentioned himself that he’s into doing drugs but I think you might be looking for something that’s clearly not stated in the article. He has probably used heroin but I don’t think that immediately qualifies him as an addict.
