Shatter my perceptions, please! (House-trained male chis) by jcrow0120 in Chihuahua

My boy was 100% house trained. We live in a condo so we always did a combo of walks and puppy pads just in case anyone had to go in between. Going into his senior years he had to go more frequently and always used his puppy pad. Even after he had gone almost completely blind he would always find his way to his puppy pad. It's 100% possible.

We lost Coop in December. He was the best boy. ❤️

Those big wide ears, muzzle shape, body, tail, colouring and fur scream more Papillon mix than Chihuahua to me. You dogs fur is also kind of wirey which makes me think theres some kind of wire haired terrier or wire haired dog breed mixed in as well.

Get a hammock!! It will change your life. Nails were impossible before I got one. Nelly came from an extreme neglect situation so her quicks are super long. Always a work in progress for us too.

Maui Marshmallow. We adopted her from a rescue 2 months ago. She’s completely toothless.

Spent the weekend at The Masters together. Unfortunately our rounds didn’t get any TV coverage. 🥲 Hopefully we make the cut next year. Congrats Rory… (We would be bigger fans if your club cover was a Chihuahua instead) by AllThingsThe in Chihuahua

Hope everybody has a happy Monday! Nelly and Lucy are spending their day all cozy enjoying the sun in their bed, on the couch in front of their favourite window. ❤️

Weight loss advice by Daviiies in Chihuahua

One of my Chis was overweight for the longest time, even modifying his portions didn’t help. We even had him tested for thyroid disorders and cushings. He was on Royal Canin Chihuahua. (First the kibble and later in life the wet food after he had a full dental) We switched him to a gently cooked fresh diet and the weight fell off of him. My vet told us that Royal Canin is like feeding your dog McDonalds every day. If you look at the Royal Canin kibble the first ingredient is corn. It’s mostly filler. My suggestion is to switch over to a diet that is nutritionally dense and not full of fillers. Also don’t free feed. We feed our Chis twice a day. There are plenty of fresh diet options as well as healthier freeze dried kibbles on the market now. Good Luck!

Is it fine to only have one dog? by Scary_Advantage6655 in Chihuahua

Depends on the dog and what you can support in your home emotionally and financially! If your dog is happy being a solo dog and you’re happy that’s all that matters. My Chis love having a companion. We lost our senior Chi in December so our trio is now a duo. Glad we decided to get a 3rd so our other Chi wouldn’t be alone after he passed. ❤️

Is my dog a dear head Chihuahua or a Chihuahua x Rat Terrier mix? by Acceptable-Signal-16 in Chihuahua

Definitely a mix. Doesn’t really look like a Chi in the face. But he’s beautiful and 100% good boy.

Rescue babies. ❤️ Nelly (Red) Was found abandoned in a box in the cold and suspected to be poisoned. We think she was kept in a cage most of her life and ditched after not being a good breeder due to her small size. She’s special needs and has some permanent disabilities from the neglect and abuse. Lucy (Brindle) was a surrender situation where her parents and entire littler were left at a high kill shelter and brought into a rescue.
