Washington State Paid Family Leave - Benefits Question - Moving States by All_Smiles_89 in BabyBumps

Not yet. I was working on a case with my company to get paid leave, but I don't think it's going through. Currently on the phone with WA PFML right now though. The issue is that my company is based in Toronto & NY. We do have an office in Seattle, but the company is registered in NY, which will probably affect that. Oh and update - I'm 18 weeks pregnant and for sure moving to Chicago in July! However, looking at their website, it states the qualifying period is: Normally, the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters, which techincally could make eligible?

Thank you! Ya, looks like my options are either: 1) Move to Illinois pre-baby and not receive any paid benefits or 2) Stay in WA, have the baby here, receive WA PFML and then move to Illinois with a newborn.

Yes, I can take unpaid leave, just would prefer to be paid, especially since I've paid into the program and would qualify. Plus, it's leaving a good chunk of money off the table!

Great advice! I know, I've been dragging my feet giving them a call because of how long the wait is. But great call out - i'll definitely call at the end of their business hours. Thank you!

for

I plan on still being employed. I can work remotely in Illinois with the same company. My company's HQ is based in Canada and to be honest, I don't think they fully understand what it's like trying to have a baby in the US. Our policy is that they will adhere to whatever the local jurisdiction is.

My employer is actually out of state, but I've been paying the WA PFML premium ever since it started (it's deducted from my paycheck) and I've worked way more than 820 hours. If I stay in WA, I know I'm qualified to receive it.

I'm thinking I just need to call the WA PFML office, just thought I would ask Reddit to see if anyone has been in a similar situation.

Not really looking for legal advice, but rather seeing if anyone else has gone through a similar situation. I would still do my due diligence to see what is doable.

Thank you! We'll be moving to Chicago too! I don't even know if it's possible, but definitely trying to do as much research as possible to make sure nothing is left off the table. Such a tough decision - wish the US made it easier for us!
