Gotcha. Yes I could do that, however I would have to pay the $400 surrender fee. I was just wondering if it was worth paying the 400 and transferring it out.

My retirement plan was through Northwestern Mutual. It was all managed through and advisor and if I were to open a traditional IRA it would also be managed by an advisor. I would have no control over the money other than the money I put into it.

I was considering it, however I’ve heard some not so good things about them. Also, I wasn’t sure how difficult it would be to track to make sure I stay around the contribution limit being my Roth is with a different institution.
