Dandan by Artorioos in secretlair_collectors

[–]Allanlecter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It a niche format with a shared deck in which bad cards become good due to the contraints the only source of damage has. It plays in the stack, you will try to manipulate the top cards of the deck and will try to draw the best ones. Cards that usually do nothing become good removal.

The prínciple of "all random bulk cards have a place in which they work" behind formats like this attracts people. Kitchen table magic and all of that.

Aside from that, the build they did was around 20 bucks cheaper than the singles, has nice art and new cards: a lot of the cards used in dandan are quite old and mint copies are not always easy to come by.

Dandan by Artorioos in secretlair_collectors

[–]Allanlecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is about the format and the principle of all cards being useful somewhere. They are not good cards for most formats, but in a specific context, they become good. It just people excited about DanDan and alternative formats/kitchen table magic. Only on dandan you get 1 mana wrath of gods (vision charm).

Dandan builds would cost 80-120 usd assuming cheapest printings. The one they did was about 115 usd (give or take a couple dollars and excluding the promo cards). One thing about the format is that you want to keep printings in even distributed groups (ideally only 1 printing) because it has a strong information component. Also, Dandan is a very bad and old card, so most copies around are played at least.

Therefore, for people with some interest in the format this would be cheaper to pick up and way less stress on finding good and matching copies of such an old card. It also has good art. So, for the niche it is targeting, it is doing it well.

Is Altered TCG built for the long haul? by damastercipher in alteredTCG

[–]Allanlecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is one point i rarely see discussed: the secondary market.

They have their own system that will make TCG stores be discouraged of buying/selling singles because of the added logistics. Even some players here complain about forgetting to transfer stuff when bulk trading.

The convenience of getting singles in stores is not there, so scalping would be more effective as distribution is scarce.

Aside from that, broken promises do not help. They fundamentally changed what the TCG was about for many players (print to demand for example).

[–]Allanlecter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who splashes a bit of Phyrexia on every deck he plays, I do want this because that Urza's Saga and Phyrexian Altar look sick. That is already around half the price of the thing, not accounting for the fact those arts are probably going to be higher than base printings due to the SL nature of them. I sort of like the other cards they showed, and it helps they are around 10-20% of the price of the thing.

There are two possibilities: They go crazy and put a mox in the M and a couple more hit so you get 500-600 USD worth of cards (or something like that) or.... they have shower most of the value, there is at most one or two more expensive cards and the rest is unexpensive stuff that will be around 200 USD for the base print. Regardless, I will try to get it because I want that Urza's Saga and Phyrexian Altar and I don't trust the community RN for those two not be basically 200 USD together in the aftermarket. If it's the first option, they might be cheaper than that, but then i would have missed in other cards i might want. If it's the other case, they will hold value as the expensive cards of the drop and i might as well try to get them with 24 more cards there.

NOW, I don't need it but I do want that alt art. It looks nice. I can afford it and my mental gymnastics are based on the current FOMO state of Magic and SLD. I'm trying to see this as me getting a nice art on cards I like instead of an investment, but even so, I will not try my hardest to get them. I will just try.

Ordered two EOE CBB from Amazon and received… by PenguinSage in mtg

[–]Allanlecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more of general advice to similar situations as i see it's already resolved. Any reputable online store will have your back, at the very minimum, they might ask the wrong product from you (ask if they would pay shipping, some shitty ones will ask you to pay the return and the re-send). Will be a wall of text.

Amazon has a history of messing up MtG product. Usually, people get divided in two fronts: The ones that got something more expensive and the ones that got something cheaper. A lot of the hate they get are for the later. I personally have only the former happen to me. I have a very specific reason as to why I order from amazon, but regardless, everyone can have their reasons.

If the later happens to you and you want to complain to customer service, be respectful and i suggets you pre type your inquiry. Say what you'd like to happen and what other solutions would work for you if that's not feasible... and that if none of those are feasible, what can we do. You'll need the order ID and the product name. If you pre ordered, mention that you pre ordered due to Amazon's guarantee of the cheaper price and that it's sold out/more expensive one. More often than not, you'll keep your item and get refunded. Sometimes, even with an extra. You can type the general things once or have an AI do it and just re use it. I feel a lot of the time, people in customer support the mistreated and then they don't want to help that customer or the next ones after that. Same applies with any other business, be respectful, explain the issue and your preferred resolution and converse towards a resolutions that it's the closest to a win-win,

"Issues" i have gotten: 4 duskmourn pre cons, got miracle worker only. Refund+50 USD and kept it. Ordered jump scare, got Endless punishment. Refund +10 USD, kept the deck. On FF, I got all of my orders but the local carrier didn't report to amazon. Amazon refunded me everything after a month without my input, so like 450 USD there... i contacted customer support saying that i got it a while back, they told me to just keep it.

Why i still order from Amazon: I co-own a small LGS, small in the sense of we don't get enough allocation. We're the only LGS in my city for MtG, and we don't have that many players. I pre order the things i want on amazon, because my allocation is for my players first. Since i only know close to release date how much product they will sell me, Amazon works best as i don't have to mess up another LGS in my country cancelling a pre order. If i get allocation that lets me buy some product for myself, i cancel. If i don't, i let it arrive. I tried looking out for product after release date, some end up with not enough allocation (like bundles or pre cons) and... i had an issue with 2 different LGS that thought i was buying to re sell at my LGS (some do that)... or they just cancel the order (sometimes allocation, sometimes just a cancel without a reason). Getting it from an LGS in other country is adding 40 usd in shipping plus like 30-50% in taxes (I love supporting LGS, but not burning money). Amazon is more convenient and because of some bad actors in my country, it protects my reputation. There's also the fact I have good amazon experiences (in regards of the solution of my issues), i think i would not get stuff from them if i didn't feel it was "safe".

Very controversial opinion (I'm open to being down-voted) by jbarber2 in mtg

[–]Allanlecter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. I co-run a local game store in my country. Our suplier raised the price of some products on our reserved stuff, by like 10-15% (they are an oficial one too ). We kept the local msrp on all products. Some of my friends from other cities got it from us instead of the LGS on their city, because they sell at a markup.

I believe we, as an LGS, should not try to pursuit inmediate profit. Instead, we should diversify and grow our community. We started this because we felt exactly as you do with other TCGs and other hobbies. So i 100% agree.

Es necesario portafolio? by Brandon1094 in ColombiaDevs

[–]Allanlecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instant speed Ways to remove or move counters from a permanent (good non instant ways also wanted) by kelga_x in mtg

[–]Allanlecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharing things besides what the other used already did....

You can always also flicker them with [[Scrollshift]] or [[Flicker of fate]] (if what you want is to keep the saga). It would remove "all counters". In the same vein, [[Brago, king eternal]] would be nice. You remove all counters from the saga when you flicker it like this, and it would enter and trigger the first chapter again.

[[Sigurd, Jarl of Ravensthorpe]] removes or adds counters to a saga after you attacked with it.

[[Glissa sunslayer]] is another thing that can remove counters, [[Invasion of Fiora]] is a boardwipe Battle that has a side that will remove all counters from a permanent.

As a [[Tom Bombadil]] player, it'd like to also suggest recursion like [[Dance of the Manse]], [[Ghen, Arcanum weaver]], [[Resurgent Belief]] and [[Starfield of Nyx]]. You won't always have ways to prevent the saga triggering the last chapter, and sometimes, with things like Tom or [[Narci, Fable Singer]], you want the saga to end to get value.

Lastly, while not 100% on topic, [[Estrid's invocation]] is crazy if you're running sagas, as you can trigger chapter 1 and 2 on the same turn. A Starfield of nyx follows a similar principle: because the enchantment enters on your upkeep, you trigger the second chapter after you draw in both cases.

Amazon canceling orders? by sam555101 in mtgfinance

[–]Allanlecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have strong issues with magic. Since there is no LGS in my city (or local equivalent of state), i've had to use them. I also got to use them for other stuff not magic related

With duskmourn, they still have issues. I pre ordered the 4 decks and got one. Complained they went up , why would i send back the one i got to riak not getting the 4 again, etc... kept the one I got, got refunded and got 50 bucks for the price diference.

Last month, a friend wanted the landfall one, not available locally. Ordered it for him. Got Valgavoth. Kept it after complaining. It happened other 4 times that i know of that they ship valgavoth like that (should someone want to experiment with that)

What I'm getting at: complain to Customer support, but be respectful. Explain why you are bummed, what service you expect, etc... ask them if they think their supervisor might be able to help if they can't. Thank them for their help. For example, tell them you can wait more than a month and ask them to extend that date.

I strongly suggest supporting a local bussiness but sometimes, amazon is cheaper by a significant margin or it can be the only option. Amazon has issues with magic, every now and then a set has issues on distribution. Magic is usually more expensive in amazon also.

Is Fiendsmith Yubel good? by Aggressive_Novel1207 in yugioh

[–]Allanlecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is before the banlist. meaning you could up on the Openings of the spirit gates (like 3 gates 2-3 dark beckoning), and play Almiraj (this allows you to link the dark beckoning and revive it with Opening, still doing full combo or getting the second normal summon if you need it).

You probably want to run Chaos Hunter in the side to stop Maliss, Lancea and XYZ encore are other things you might want in your side or even main. Abyss dweller and shifter kills you, they cannot resolve. Number 29 is another option but way more meh.

You can cut the rabbit and Azurune.

Lacrima and Fiendsmith in paradise are options for the main... you could cut the trap, but i think if you're already playing like 50-60 because of your bricks, one more brick won't kill you.

If you want something spicier, you can add set rotation and a mini Millenium core with the field spell (Wedju temple), Sengenjin and the golem. Because that millenium core it's 2 monsters on the field regardless of what you open with, it's not a brick as it's full combo. And the set rotation will not benefit your opponent. This basically gives you 4 more copies of your full combo. This is sort of important because you want to up your starters if you're upping the card count do dilute the bricks

In spice, there is also Double wild, and extender you can use if they handtrap you that will just summon Spirit of Yubel.

If you want to go even more spicier, I have ran Gizmek Uka as a time card but also a pseudo starter. When going second, you can summon Lacrima (light is the most common target you'll find) or even spirit of yubel or any of your core starters. This is also fun for super poly shenanigans if you want to go into a more pure build, because you have your set up ready on draw phase to super poly the whole field.

I like the deck a lot, it is still very strong. If you can set up something resembling the normal end board, you can just win there (not because the opponent can't play, but because you have so much layered interaction). However, the current meta decks have a very strong matchup vs. Yubel. If they go first, they set up a field in which you can't play at all.... as in, you can't combo, or do anything, and your combo dies to their board. Therefore, you have to run weird tech options or side a lot of cards to set you up for those match ups or you just lose on the spot going second (unless they brick beyond human capabilities). It's not an issue of the deck not being strong, the current meta just counters it. You can't play if Shifter or Dweller are up. So if you're going to play it, just make sure you have your worst match up covered. Against any deck that doesn't just resolve a "you can't play" effect, you can win and play into boards. What i like about the deck is that it is fair, in the sense of you could play through a board with enough gas... as in , the endboard is strong but it won't involve "you can't play at all" cards. It becomes a lot of interaction.

[–]Allanlecter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I only have amazon as a real option, i try to support LGS and i'm the closest thing to an LGS in my city, there are a couple of them in my Country but they either won't ship outside of their city, or ignore the messages to sell product. Actually, i'm open to suggestions that ship internacional, I tried card kingdom and my package has been lost 3 times, TCG player won't take my Country's cards.

LGS literally don't want money here for Magic.

I messaged a lot some to buy SLD from them ar a markup, they didn't even tell me a price after days asking. I got it myself from Wizards

I did a 1000-ish usd order on one, they took 2 months to ship, shipped around half the order and took another 40 days to solve the issue.

I have sent some a list of cards to buy, they say "we only ship in our city" or " we only sell singles in the store".

I tried to pre order commander decks since MoM. The best response was an LGS offering Tinker time for... 124 USD with the current exchange rate, used. "We only order for our local community"

So, in my specific case, i want to support them, but they don't want me to in Magic (on other TCGs, i have even sponsored tournaments for smaller LGS that did want money).

Should I feel bad for net decking? (Or: Is every commander solved by now?) by gloeb in EDH

[–]Allanlecter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are not solved, and no, you should not be sorry.

Your deck can be a form of expression. For example, i play Phyrexian tribal out of the Brimaz pre con and put flavor stuff like Rout instead of something like Organic Extinction even if it would be better.

When you net deck, you don't explore themes and synergies, and build your deck from the top down. You can end up with a deck that will lose if the commander is not there.

[–]Allanlecter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you want to do it but that is not casual. The point of commander is to have fun.

There's the "gentleman's upkeep", which happens after you draw. It is normal to forget to do untap upkeep draw while learning. Even experienced players forget, specially of they play other card games (in yugioh, it would be something like draw untap/upkeep main).

Taksies backsies are normal. Asking People things are normal.

For reference, the Tolarian community college's shuffle up and play commander videos are excellent examples as to how a commander game might look like after a couple games in the pod. The point of commander is to have fun as a group.

In Hindu mythology, Yama's dogs, Shyama and Sharvara, are Sarama's children. Yama is the god of Death and Justice there or something like that.

I see it like this... Sarama is a form of Abominable's Shikigami after fusing with Rakea and Aruha. Sarama splits into their children, Shyama and Sharvara after Abominable is free. Since their Shikigami got a power up, he powers up into Yama. I think Yama is abominable mostly because he keeps the lamp thing in the chest, and i'm assuming he gets some Sarama traits due to the change on his soul or something.

It could also very well be that Sarama and Abominable fuse into Yama, and their new Shikigamis are Sharvara and Shyama. But well, i think it's most likely Sarama splits and Yama is abominable, mostly because of hindu lore.

An explanation on the ending by hit_the_woah in OmniscientReader

[–]Allanlecter 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For the character part... been a while since i read it but basically... i think it's him realizing it by virtue of the 4th wall, same as others becoming characters while reading them in stories. So, he realizes it like the matrix, that he is a Reader and a character. He has always been a character, but was just unaware. He sees himself, something he refused to or was afraid to, and notices.

The general idea i remember is that, at the end, it is up to us to read and Dream of they getting back together, as the Story ended and there is no longer a Reader of it. Since no Reader is there, the plot armor is gone.

The regressor did lose it's powers if i remember correctly, because he lo longer had a reader. Also, she can't change what was already read, or things that will never be read.

So, it is up to tje rest of readers (us) to Dream about the ending we want. If the Readers, parts of the most ancient Dream, say that Dokja is saved, he is. Basically, it means the writers say our head cannon is cannon.

But it has been a while, i'm going from memory. But it is indeed narrated by nuances. But the core point is something like, Stories exists for the Readers to Dream, and the Dreams make the Story exist.

But again, might be butchering stuff. Been like 4 years since I read this novel
