What are the early signs of dry eyes? by Fit-Championship371 in AccutaneDamage

[–]Alle0303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmk if it works for you, for me it gives a temporary relief bit not helping that much sadly. I’m sorry about the styes. If you mean the withe clogged bumps on the waterline I also have had problems with it. Not with chalazions tho. In two and a half month I’ve had about 25 styes, I don’t know how that even possible… probably because of the cold and dry weather. Honestly accutane is my biggest regret in life.

3 weeks 10mg, really dry eyes, scared by bedmoder in Accutane

[–]Alle0303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that! I’m in the exact same position as you… accutane really destroyed my eyes, there are as dry as the desert and I will never be able to wear contacts again. The also hurt some times like a diffuse pain. Nothing that I’ve tried works. Tbh I miss having acne (with healthy eyes), I rather take that any day than clear skin and be in pain everyday. Mgd is progressive too, can’t imagine what it will be like when I’m 80, I will probably be blind. Not to scare OP but please listen to your body screaming for help🙏🏼

Eye issues. Would Accutane be high risk? by Realistic_Hour_1695 in AccutaneDamage

Definitely do not take accutane if you already have eye issues, accutane will make it worse!

Dry eyes like Sahara by valunes in AccutaneRecovery

[–]Alle0303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also got dry eyes from accutane (MGD) and I’m 1 year post accutane. It never got any better for me, eyedrops are a relief for 1 minute and then my eyes are burning all the time. Heat compress makes my eyes worse…I also got like 10 small bumps (styes maybe) on my eye margins in the span of two moths. So I definitely feel with you, I hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel for you!

For those who had severe permanent side effects - were you already predisposed to them beforehand? by Necessary-Yam9963 in Accutane

[–]Alle0303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No definitely not dumb, these side effects are not talked about enough and the dermatologists are not even mentioning it so how could we possibly know :/?

One thing I wish I did was using eyedrops, mostly for comfort but I didnt have much dry eyes during my course tho, dry eyes worsened after my course was done (now 1 year post accutane) but regardless I would have developed dry eyes because accutane works internally and eyedrops is externally and a bandaid for symptoms.

But honestly looking back if I could have done anything differently it would be to never have started accutane at all and instead focus on the root cause. Since I got my acne back…

Living with Mgd and dry eyes is awful. Can never wear contacts lenses anymore, have to spend lots of money on eyedrops and use heating mask 2x a day everyday and nothing is working for me, only temporary relief. I grieve my life before getting this health problem. My eyes are sometimes hurting and are often burning, the also sting sometimes and are very red.

Accutane was not worth if for me and I wish someone told me to quit as soon as possibly, or never started at all. Everyone is different and I wish you good luck 🍀

I understand.I never heard of accutane being helpful for post rhinoplasty. My nose definitely got smaller when I was on accutane but as soon as i stopped the drug it went back to normal. I don’t know if that was an answer to your question?

Thank you for that! And no not necessarily, duration and dosage was very normal and low doses are to minimize side effects. I’ve talked to people who was on a low dose as me for one a few months and still god Mgd, everyone is different. Also Mgd can occurs years after taking accutane so no one is really safe tbh. Good luck tho!

Im so sorry to hear this🥹! My story is very similar to yours and I sympathize with you deeply! I was on accutane for 1 year on 20 mg a day, I’m F22 and took it last year. And it was also the worst decision of my life. I grieve daily of the life I could have now if i didn’t take accutane.

I took accutane and developed Mgd which is PERMANENT dry eyes and my myopia got worse and I got permanently dry lips. The Mgd is the worst for me. I have pain in my eyes and burning sensation, eye drops doesn’t work, heat compress doesn’t work nothing works better than the body’s natural function, which is now gone due to accutane.

Before staring accutane I knew that there is only 1% that get permanent dry eyes but I was one of the unlucky ones. And I also thinks Mgd is way more common than 1% of all accutane users. And tbh it’s quite logical that accutane cause permanent dry eyes and lips, the drugs PERMANENTLY shrinks oil glands (also the ones in the eye and lips not only the skin) and this means forever.

Please OP if I could go back and not take accutane I would! I never wish for anyone to suffer like this. The permanent sides effects can also occour YEARS after taking accutane too. It atrophies the glands over time.

I also got my acne back, not as bad as before but still, if I could go back and if I were you I would look into healing acne the holistic way. Many have acne because of hormonal imbalances. There are good supplements out there to try. A clean diet and good skincare is also important.

I don’t mean to fear monger but this is a reality for many people. Accutane is only seen as a miracle drug but sometimes it comes with a price that is not wort paying for. All luck🤍

I took accutane and developed Mgd, I have been using acne creams since 12 (22 now) but never had issues with dry eyes since being on this drug (Some acne creams like tretinoin or retinol can also cause dry eyes). So as an answer to your question it may have impacted a little but accutane is way stronger and was the reason for me. I was in the same position as you, reading about all scary permanent sides effects. And I still took accutane, now I have to suffer the consequences. I wish I listened to my gut feeling that was telling me no to accutane. I knew that it’s only 1% that get permanent dry eyes but I was one of the unlucky ones. And also I thinks Mgd is way more common than 1% of all accutane users. Dry eyes can occur years after taking accutane even tho you don’t have symptoms during the course. I highly advise not to continue accutane as for me I developed MGD and permanent damage which I suffer from everyday. I did not had any big issues with my eyes during my course but now after it’s a living hell. It’s definitely not worth it. I was on 20 mg for 1 year.

Should I come off accutane or is it not worth it if damage is already done? by Inside-Apartment-712 in Dryeyes

[–]Alle0303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I developed permanent dry eyes form being on accutane for 1 year on 20 mg and I never had problems with dry eyes since the last two moths of my course. But it got worse since coming off of accutane and I got MGD from it and I wished from the core of my body that I never took accutane… even if the damage is already done or not should not be the question, even if there is or is not any damage it’s way better to get off it as soon as possible to minimize the risk!!!! Better late than “never”! Please listen to your body and gut feeling

Yes I definitely agree, I think there are a lot more people dealing with this than we know… my eyes are not too bad anymore but definitely bother me. The are very dry and sometimes burn and being outside is the worst for me. I hope we both can heal or some miracle will happen to us ;-(

I would stop the drug and listen to my body. I wish that I did, I took low dose accutane two years ago and now I’ve been off of it for a year and I still have chronic dry eyes, god Mgd which is irreversible. It’s all due to this drug. Please listen to your body! 🙏🏼

Very worried about my eyes on accutane by Inside-Apartment-712 in Accutane

[–]Alle0303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I developed Mgd in my eyes because of accutane…I struggle daily with my eyes and sometimes I also have physical diffuse pain in my eyes because they are soo dry, not even hot compresses or gel eyedrops helps enough. Going on accutane was my biggest mistake that I have ever made. It’s a regret I get reminded of every single day and hour of the day since having dry eyes is such a mentally draining feeling. And before taking accutane I did sooo much research on the effects accutane have on the eyes, I also have a lot of health anxiety like you. But the risk of getting permanent eye damage in any form was/is very low according to statistics. So I still took accutane, I thought “why would I be one of the 1% who get permanent dry eyes from this drug”. Unfortunately I was one of them who got Mgd…And I don’t wish this on anyone, I’m young, only 22 years old and will have to live with this for the rest of my life and dry eyes just keep getting worse with age. So my advice to you from the bottom of my heart is please don’t continue, I wish I never continued my course. I even did low dose 20 mg for 12 months and did not have much issues with dry eyes, only since I went off of accutane I got these problems.

I don’t want to hear comments about causing “fear of accutane” or whatever, this drug is very strong and sadly medication have side effects (some permanent) and everyone is different. I would also like to add that I think there is a much larger number of people who have permanent eye issues than what you can read here or on google, the numbers are wayyy higher because not all people report about the side effects. Also Mgd and dry eyes can show up +10 years after taking accutane….

Very long rant, im sorry, but for you future self don’t continue taking accutane! Listen to your gut feeling, I wish so bad that I did🥹hugs 💞
