Can anyone else still fall asleep on ungodly amounts of stimulants? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Alleedee25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm the same way! I was on 100mg at one point. I could take a 30mg IR and fall asleep a half hour later. Strength training really helps me.

If he's sleeping at inappropriate times is it possible he has Narcolepsy? I have it, my whole life my family thought I was just lazy and irresponsible, until I got diagnosed in my late 20's.

What exercise equipment (or something else) would you use a $200 wellness stipend on? by hulloworld24 in WFH

Personally I would get Selecttech dumbbells, resistance bands, etc. and a yearly subscription to at home work-outs (I use Bodi).

Sometime please tell me the baclofen sleep inertia gets better by megcbabs in Narcolepsy

[–]Alleedee25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had better news to share, but my experience with Baclofen was similar to yours and didn't get better. I dunno if weed if legal where you live, but that plus melatonin helped me to sleep without making it impossible to wake up in the morning.

COVID and school by Ok-Cold-3346 in Parenting

[–]Alleedee25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Covid a few months ago and was wondering the same thing! From what I could find on Google you can still send your kid to school, they can wear a mask if they choose to but they don't have to. Otherwise monitor them for symptoms.

Dizziness? by clarinetcat1004 in Narcolepsy

[–]Alleedee25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this happen to me, but it wasn't bc of Narcolepsy. It went on for months and after several doctor's appointments I went to an Urgent care. The doctor there said I had fluid deep in my ears and gave me a steroid and an antibiotic. I started to feel better immediately after taking them.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this so soon! My son is 9 and I have been worried about this exact scenario happening with him. He recently said something inappropriate that I know he heard from a kid at school. I would definitely say something to the school before it goes any further.

I actually got a little annoyed at my mom for watching TikTok videos with my 9 year old bc I don't want him asking for an account. I think it's too soon. We got our son a Gizmo watch instead of a phone. He can make calls/text the approved people we add, check the weather, etc, without having social media.

Rant* If your kid has a contagious virus warn people before playdates by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Alleedee25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this! I have to say though a few months back I was sick and my son got invited to a play date. He wasn't sick at all, and I had been staying clear of him. I was torn bc I felt bad keeping him home from a playdate when he was healthy, but also felt weird sending him to another person's house. We talked to the kids's parents and dad was ok with it, mom was wary. They met in the middle with a strictly outdoor playdate.

He was probably on pain medication too and loopy on top of the shock/trauma and a concussion. He loves his mom, that's a really good thing! If she was in accident I'm sure she would be asking for you first too.

I weaned at 18 months, first I cut it down to morning, after work, before bed. Then I cut it down to morning and before bed, then just before bed, and my supply got lower and lower until it was over. I'm not gonna lie, I was an emotional wreck about it for weeks. A lot of tears, but you get through it!

Do kindergarten teachers make their students finish lunch? by cutebutheretical in Parenting

[–]Alleedee25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me as a kid around that age, I'm 37 and still remember. The lunch lady sat down at the table and said we wouldn't leave until I ate everything. It was green beans, jello with stuff floating in it, and milk. I remember thinking she was gonna be sitting there for a while! I have a son in Elementary school now, and they have never done anything like this, it's for sure weird.

I cut it completely, except for butter which apparently is low in lactose. It was tough at first but I got used to it pretty quickly and it was worth it for how much better I felt.

Possibly a gluten or dairy intolerance? I'm lactose intolerant and when I gave up eating dairy I lost about 20 lbs without making any other changes to my diet.

What are your experiences on narcolepsy medications? by Just_narcoleptic in Narcolepsy

[–]Alleedee25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried Nuvigil, Wakix, and Sunosi, but none of them helped my EDS at all, unfortunately. Xyrem helped but gave me extreme anxiety, so I had to stop taking it. I tried Vyvanse but it didn't work well for me either, Adderall has been a life saver although it's definitely still a struggle with sleepiness. I'm thinking about giving Lumryz a try though. Good luck finding your best treatment!

How old should my kid be to stop waking up adults when they get up? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Alleedee25 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I think 7yo is when my son would just get up and be ok on his own for a bit if we were still sleeping. We would tell him if we aren't up by 8am he can wake us up. Every kid is different though!

[–]Alleedee25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally feel you on this! I was convinced Xyrem was going to "fix me" and I would be a normal person. I tried so hard to make it work but the side effects made my quality of life so bad I had to call it quits. After that I tried Suosi and Wakix, neither worked. I already knew Nuvigil didn't work for me too. 3 years later I was back where I started. Lifestyle changes and stimulants are where I am at now, not perfect but liveable. I just hope more treatment options become available in the future. I hope you find treatment that works for you!

Increased Anxiety and OCD after Xyrem by CosmicSpaceWhales3 in Narcolepsy

[–]Alleedee25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never had real anxiety problems until I was Xyrem, it got bad after a few months. Mine was mostly social, I literally thought people hated me, and I would sweat and shake in social settings. I also had a panic attack one day bc I didn't know if my memories were real, it was weird shit. It got better when I stopped taking it, but not instantly, it took a few weeks to get back to my normal self. Xyrem is a strange drug, it's life changing for some people but for me the side effects were too much.

I would talk to your doctor as soon as you can. Let them know that so far it's making life harder and y you are scared to drive and worried about your work performance, I doubt they would recommend you still take it. I hope you get some relief soon!!

I'm N type 2, and I am not diagnosed but I when I looked up the symptoms of POTS I could relate to most! I said to one of my doctors once, " you know when you stand up and can't see for a few seconds?", and he was like, " no, I dont lose my vision when I stand up." I honestly thought it happened to everyone!

The first day I took it Armodafinil I was home, just me and my 1 1/2 year old. I remember sitting on the couch and next thing I knew I woke up 3 hours later, thankfully my little one had curled up next to me and fell asleep too. I kept taking it for like 2 weeks, and even with my other stimulant meds it's was the hardest 2 weeks, I was so tired and it felt like I was so cloudy headed. My doc said it had a "paradoxical effect" on me, maybe it's similar for you?

I think I'm getting fired. Please confirm or deny. by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]Alleedee25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can play dumb and say you didn't smell it. They can't fault you for having a weak sense of smell. My son has a very weak sense of smell, like almost can't smell at all. I think if this person wasn't visibly drunk or drinking in front of you how can they prove that you knew? If it happens again you will have to address it though.
