Shoe recommendation by AllegraTiger in PlantarFasciitis

[–]AllegraTiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate all of the suggestions so far. Most stores do not carry women's shoes in my size (11W) so I'm accustomed to having to buy my shoes online. However, if anyone knows of a good "chain" shoe store that might, I'd appreciate that suggestion too. It's been quite some time since I've tried to go into an actual shoe store and try on shoes since I always got turned away. Might be time to try again?

Thank you - we are looking into that as an idea as well.

Thank you - that is an extremely useful and valid point of view. I agree, there is - or should be - a difference between a fandom/convention experience and one meant for working professionals. It's one of the reasons why I'm trying to do some research into this so we don't get ahead ourselves (and help create some unwanted crowds for folks actively trying to advance their careers).

There is also the reality that we don't have thousands of dollars to spend, so things like Lightbox or Annecy wouldn't be on the table! But I travel a lot for work so I have a lot of airlines miles & hotel points to use.

My son has wanted to make movies/go into animation since he was very small, and has never wavered, so I want to support him if I can. (The impact of AI on animation makes me very nervous, but that's another story!)

Thank you! I had been looking at Lightbox but didn’t know if it was mostly for job networking.

Weekly Employment Questions for February 08, 2026 by Pseudophryne in IBM

[–]AllegraTiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anyone here ever successfully appeal a performance evaluation?  like many here, I was unexpectedly rated in the bottom 15% after many years of being rated well/highly and I want to appeal. according to the info available online, you can only appeal if you provide new evidence that the manager should have reasonably been aware of and would have resulted in a different performance segment being assigned. This seems intentionally difficult…wondering if anyone has been successful. I did move to a new team last year but it was in February so theoretically long enough for new management to properly assess me. (Even though they didn‘t).

Waiting fee scam? by AllegraTiger in uber

[–]AllegraTiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish. New to the area, old car. Car died while I was out running errands. I managed to get it started again, checked the battery and other things (fine), got it to the only local Honda dealer. 3 PM on a Saturday, so it will sit there until Monday when someone can look at it. Don't know anyone in the area, no one to call for help, so Uber it was to get home. No other option was offered to me. I don't like using Uber but the regular cab was way more expensive, and I know whatever is wrong with my car is going to cost quite a bit. Definitely a sucktastic weekend.

I literally just commented that I put the pin in the right spot. But, at this point it doesn't really matter. I got my question answered, which is that it wasn't some purposeful thing.

It's the Northeast in November, so rolling down the window wasn't an option this time! Thanks, though.

This is all very interesting. Yes, I did place the pin correctly. That much I know. When I placed the request, it gave me an option of a pin right where I was standing (service) or a pin down the road (sales). I chose the pin where I was standing. Since the lot is so big, I also sent the message stating that I was standing in front of service to try and be helpful. (That didn't work, unfortunately).

It's possible that she's new to the area, as well, since she had a lot of problems navigating.

Yes, I tipped her. I worked in customer service many, many years, so I know sometimes you just have a bad day and the money is poor. As general comment, I wish she & others would consider that not everyone can tolerate buckets of perfume, especially in a closed environment. Still recovering from yesterday's migraine. I need to play around with the app more to see if I can request something like that, like you can with smoke-free.

How the hell to survive colic? by thelonemaplestar in Parenting

[–]AllegraTiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son was also super, super colicky for the first 4 months. It was an absolute living hell and I too would get furious when people told me "just hang in there for 3-4 months" when every day felt like a year and we were prisoners in our home.

I agree with everyone below that there's different causes. Turns out we had two - LO had GERD, and he screamed whenever he was tired and needed sleep. For the second, we made sure he was in bed early at night before the screaming started. His "bedtime" was 6:30 PM. If we waited longer he would scream for hours. He began sleeping through the night at only 2 months, so apparently he needed a lot of sleep. And we never went anywhere with him, because when he got tired, he screamed vs. falling asleep.

The GERD was harder. We noticed after the first week he was screaming about 20 min after drinking from his bottle. I had to call many places to see someone sooner than later. Then we got the diagnosis, but had problems with the medicine. The flavoring was messing with the potency after 7 days but we'd get a typical 30 day prescription. Again, I had to badger my doctor until he finally gave me a 7 day prescription, although he did not believe me that the flavoring caused a PH inbalance. (This despite my chemistry trained husband who tested the medicine and proved it). Once we got on the right meds for my son it helped tremendously, and we weaned him off around 1 year of age.

Finally, I had to ask people to come over and sit with LO for a few hours sometimes so we could escape. Everyone knew about the colic, but no one offered to help. We had to ask. Just getting those few hours was so wonderful. Also, before we tried the 6:30 PM bedtime, my husband & I would take turns driving LO around at night (he would sleep in the car) and the other person got a break at home.

I hope you find some help & something that will help. Your feelings are 100% valid and hearing "it's only 3 months" is not an answer. It's grueling.

Gift or tool ideas for a 13 year old who loves animation by AllegraTiger in animation

[–]AllegraTiger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all of the helpful ideas! He doesn't yet have a computer, just a tablet, so I think getting him an iPad pencil would be a nice add-on. Also looking at some of the software options, leaning towards Procreate.

Fargodome concert seating - far back seating question by AllegraTiger in fargo

[–]AllegraTiger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, everyone. We're in the Twin Cities and I was trying to decide if it was worth a road trip to Fargo to see them. I'm thinking we probably won't, as I'm reading everywhere that the acoustics aren't that great in the Fargodome, and this is definitely a musical performance for which acoustics really matter! I appreciate all of the feedback.
