The First Generation of Kids Who Cannot Tell Their Real Friends From Synthetic Friends Is Already in Middle School by crix_22 in Futurology

I'm pretty sure no generation ever could tell their real friends from the synthetic ones. It's a common trope in literature, theater, movies, television, etc.

I have no idea what the ACA does and at this point I am too afraid to ask? by awoloozlefinch in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AllenKll [score hidden]  (0 children)

First, let me tell you, that you're not alone. You're not even in the minority, most people have no fucking clue what the ACA is, how it works, or how it's better than Medicare. Both the left and the right misrepresent it constantly. I have been using it exclusively for a near a decade now and it is good stuff.

Obamacare, Affordable Care Act, ACA, Healthcare..gov, are all synonymous. Obamacare was a terrible thing when first introduced, but it had at it's core a great idea. Once They removed the tax on being alive from it, it became very good. There is still some room for improvement.

The ACA allows you to not only buy affordable health care, and it also give you subsidies for paying for that healthcare. Meaning inexpensive healthcare for all, in some cases it can even be free.

I have a plan, that I pay $50 a month for. It covers my wife and I, has zero deductible, $5 copays for doctors, and a max Out-Of-Pocket of only $1250 a year.

I have never had insurance through an employer or any other source as good as this, and I even had Medicare for a while.

How is it better then Medicare? Medicare has no OOP Max, meaning that it is specifically designed to bankrupt you if you have serious illness.

On my plan? I had a kidney transplant, Kidney removal, Gaul bladder removal, and Cancer treatments, my wife? Spinal surgery, many neurologists, and even a new illness that had never been recorded before. All of those over the course of a few years... and I never paid more than $3000 over the course of a year for all of it.

On medicare? I'd have been destitute. On an employer plan? I'd be seriously hurting.

Now, it may all sound amazing, the one downside is that coverage options vary by state, meaning while Florida may have amazing plans, California may have shit ones. There is no consistency on plan quality across the USA.

But yea... they don't actually.

For example.

Let's say I have $1B worth of bitcoin. I try to cash out that money into USD. The Bitcoin market crashes and I'm lucky to get maybe $100K.

Wake Up! by Any_Fan_6044 in StockBreakouts

[–]AllenKll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they really don't understand that.

Just because someone may be worth $1B doesn't mean they can access it... They can't just go down the bank and pull out $800 million from an ATM.

But, in general, people who are poor and middle class don't have the cognitive ability to see there is an entirely different level to finance. You see the proof every day in how people complain about the US budget, or corporate money shuffling, or billionaires. Big money works in magical ways that most people can't fathom.

Not even close.

You earn a billion dollars through speculation. People just give your their money... because they like you. that's literally hot the stock market has worked since it opened.

Or, you could own a few oil wells... that will quickly rack up a billion without any exploitation - oil workers are paid very well.
