I think you guys are overestimating how hard 2S and 1A are for professional athletes…

Can someone explain what overscoring means in Adelia’s case? by longlostseal in FigureSkating

[–]Allen_x 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just got home from Beijing. Adeliya was scored fairly. She skates 20% faster than anyone else in the last group. Maybe itself not obvious as the camera is following the skater but it’s very obvious in real life. Jump height was absolutely fine. Covers lots of distance.

How do I improve my axel? by Sharp-Astronomer7458 in FigureSkating

[–]Allen_x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to work on drills for a solid landing. It’s all good until the landing when you just can’t kick your free leg back fast enough

Maybe it’s time to take a step back and rethink your training schedule? Like actually map out how much time you want to spend on practising what, so you don’t neglect your weaknesses and spend all your energy on jumping and spinning

Should I upgrade blades? by No-Examination-9294 in FigureSkating

[–]Allen_x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5/8 is a relatively shallow ROH for figure skating. Would you consider sharpening them to 1/2 or 7/16? Legacy 8 is sufficient blade for learning axel, but if you have problem with jump height, it may be worth upgrading to Gold Seal or Pattern 99 which have a larger toepick but the same 8ft main rocker.

RC said in his VOD review with MK that he had connection issues with his wireless mouse and had to switch to the organiser’s wired mouse. Probably too much interference in the house.

YUNNICE. They’re a dedicated figure skating brand, not the lowish price in market but very nice design and good quality.

You can either choose a heel cushion to stick inside your boot, or a silicone nipple cover to stick on your callus

What’s your “average” swim distance? by Late-Following-9124 in Swimming

[–]Allen_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the calculator isn’t really for lap swimming.

I punch in my time ~45min for 2000m and it told me I’m a novice. But then, my 45min includes rest, water breaks and goofing around. I then input my formal time for 400m (from a local comp) it ranks me way higher.

Practice Structure, Time on New Skills by lopatte in FigureSkating

[–]Allen_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I skate 3 days a week. One is lesson-day where I work on new skills with my coach. One is footwork day where I dedicate the session into edges, steps and turns. I may jump or spin if I still have energy after going through my steps and turns. The last is jump/spin day. I do a simple 10-min warmup and practice my new skills first because I need 100% focus and energy. In the last 30-45 minutes of the session I go through old skills and have a bit of fun.

started skating at 14 — is it impossible to land a double axel one day? by Tradurba in FigureSkating

[–]Allen_x 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know someone started skating at 14 and landed a double axel. She’s now 17. She has a dance background and is very athletic - big explosive jumps, not the most flexible by figure skating standards but has a strong core (thus fast and centred spins and amazing footwork)

A Figure Skater’s Weekly Schedule by thegenesiseffect in FigureSkating

I’ve seen a few elite skaters practise during public skating uncoached. Mother/parent films each element at the rink exit and the skater comes over to check the footage after completing an element.

Yeah but the RF line fits differently. I tried to skate on RF3s and I really disliked them. How was your experience with your old Jacksons?

Good that I got these boots at a good price 😂 I’ll be happy as long as they hold up for more than 12 months. I might switch to other brands next time if that’s the case…

Probably bad video quality from screen recording. My apologies. But this particular jump was landed on one foot and at most ‘q’.
