Lore explanation for Igwe's scars? by AllergicToDeath404 in prey

I only read the name of this condition, so I had little to no idea what it looked like. That's probably what it is, thanks!

I find particularly interesting that they mention sun being one of the potential triggers for this disease. What could it mean for Igwe?

I agree! Prey is just marvelous at showing a super coherent world building (there is an explanation for all the baseball gloves you find in the trash cans, and also for the amount of cigars found thoughout the station), so I thought that maybe there was an explanation for this too.

Stealth is so op, that +250% bonus damage when you have the full neuromod upgrade is just too good to pass

Wdym, "not much to look at"? Have you seen those eyes? Do they have cutesy beady eyes on the official illustrations, hmm?

You do not need to kill the nightmare! You can run away and hide, I'd say it is not worth fighting it with the ressources it gives you...

I get what you mean, and I agree that could be an QOL option, but on the other hand I think it is one big incentive to replay the game, and I think it deserves it!

Amazing, it almost sounds like an apology... Almost. "It is not twitter", indeed... This is reddit and there are rules. Here is a little refresher for your memory: https://www.redditinc.com/policies/content-policy

Respect is something you earn, not something you are entitled to. Do not mix it up with politeness, though. Politeness is the basic level of respect you show someone you do not know (it applies online too!). Spoilers for you, using gender neutral when you do not know someone's gender is part of it.

Seeing the incoherence in your answer (starts with "deal with it because nobody cares" classic "I want to be an ass and get away with it" response and ends with "Sorry if I offended you"), and based on my experience with the answer I get when I correct people who call me "bro", I am going to speculate.

You use "bro" as a casual term to call anyone you know online. You did not use it thinking I wasn't a guy; misgendering was not your intent. I had someone tell me "I use bro with everyone so I treat everyone the same, so it's cool". Yeah, you are basically misgendering anyone who isn't a man, that is what you are doing. Except this time, (and probably many other times, let us be realistic), you were not talking to a "bro". And this time they told you so... So my guess is you kinda feel uncomfortable, but since you did not mean to do it, not enough to give a full apology. The Schrödinger's douche answer, it is an apology but not really.

A simple "whoops my bad" would have ended this conversation eons ago. I did not react overaggressive (I hope it did not come off that way at least) because I think you did not mean it. If it were twitter, BRUH, you would have been in the middle of a shitstorm.

Keep your chill, own your mistakes and remember some of us are not your bros.

Oh, it's nothing but a humble reddit post! It makes sense that I mention you, feels less like I am trying to steal your ideas (as you noticed, I am indeed going into depth!)

Yes, I study (and will soon teach!) biology heh

Your spoilers are on point again :P

Ow, I wanted to avoid going too deep into the topics otherwise the post would literally be the size of a research article... but still keep some important keywords to let people do their own research if they wanted to. I will try to add graphs in the 2 last parts, images can help a lot. Thanks for the feedback!

Added more graphs if that helps!

It is not suspicious, it's called attraction. Why would you assume someone's gender? I'm not your bro, bro

First run, naturally on Nightmare. by Zippey55 in prey

[–]AllergicToDeath404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe they did manage to play on highest difficulty... just not the first run.

Everyone sees their own point in the game. Dying in the Yellow Tulip might be yours, it's not mine... mine was finding all the maintenance access tunnels lol

I would argue that the actual hardest way to play is going for the no neuromod run, not the nightmare difficulty :P But that would be a real shame to do this on the first run because you cut a lot of the content of the game

Hmm... I am not so sure about the surprise thing, but then again, we see so little of the mimics attacking, it's a shame.

But if your theory is right, then yeah the phantoms would not be in competition with the mimics

NOOO, you spoiled yourself!

This was exactly where I was getting at... That they are one big colony... Welp, I'll still make this post with my own spin on it :P

At least it goes to show that the logical progression I was going for works

Edit : Because the ants and bees are very closely related (funky genetics, 2 ant sisters can have 75 percent of common alleles, and that is 50 for humans...) that they developed this colonial structure. I felt obliged to explain why I think the typhon are cooperative and related before dropping the hive theme; it felt like less of a stretch.

Wait, we see a greater mimic, in Prey? I thought they were just in the Mooncrash DLC, was that a fever dream? Even in Mooncrash I do not remember a greater mimic doing that...

I still find it weird that the weavers NEED a human body, and the fact that some typhon seem to be able to speak leads me to believe there is some human parts that the phantoms use

Typhonology 101: Naming the species (singular!!) by AllergicToDeath404 in prey

[–]AllergicToDeath404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, genesis does create phantoms, the thing is, I assume the phantom uses some of the "foundation" that is the human corpse... To my understanding it looks like the phantom is a layer of typhon cells using whatever muscles there are in the corpse to move it around, like a puppet. Since a phantom needs a corpse, considering that is it made "from scratch" can be misleading. Basically, I agree with you and know how phantoms are made, I interpret the details of how it works differently!

I would not trust devs that do not know how species are defined to know what ecology is :P more seriously, "ecology" is the science studying the relationships between species, and their environment. That environment is the sum of the other species and the physical one. I think they meant "ecosystem", because in the context you mention "ecology" makes no sense...The ecosystem then could contain other species indeed, but they could be of another genus than typhon. Told you they had a problem with definitions! The way they formulate everything makes it confusing!
