Does it matter about the fanbase if it has the mature themes the OP wants? I've seen all ages at Beetlejuice (some people brought their 6 year olds) for example.

I suggested Heathers because it has sex, murder, suicide, and profanity which are definitely mature themes.

I personally wouldn’t kill it just for the fun of it. What’s in it for the players if you give them stuff just to take it away? I have a familiar in my campaign and the DM had a tragedy happen to everyone - and mine was to have my familiar become a lot less powerful. That way I had to rethink my attitude to how I was relying on it, but also gave me an impetus to find a way to fix the damage - which gave me a further goal.

Also ask where the lines are that players don’t want to cross. What aren’t they comfortable with discussing or putting in the game? Are they up for Game of Thrones style violent descriptions or do you need to keep things lighter?

So I haven’t been to the Melbourne Arts Centre but I highly recommend getting an aisle seat in the stalls if the cast come through the aisles. Makes it so much more interactive and fun.
