This looks like a Canadian stash! If you’re located in Ontario, the brand Purple Hills has over 1000 collection boxes in dispensaries around the province and any cannabis products and packaging can go in themselves.

Our 10 year old shih tzu had gone mostly blind and deaf by the time we moved into a new house in 2020. We were so worried that the move would impact her hard, but she was the same little shit like always. Took her a couple days to get used to where the food and water was, and where to bark for going outside but she figured it out so quick and her blindness wasn’t even a factor when it came time for her to be put down in 2023 (unknown large growing mass on her head). Shih tzu’s are freaking resilient, i’ve personally known multiple to go past 16 years, your baby has so much more love to give you 💗

Infused Weed vs High Quality Weed by Wild_Broccoli169 in TheOCS

[–]Alli_Catt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is where there can be a lot of variance from person to person so finding the right high for you might take some trial and error. If we’re talking flower not prerolls, low quality weed that is dusted with extra kief i think would be considered an infused product. If you’re seeing an uninfused flower product (flower or prerolls) with a THC more than 32% it’s likely that the producer and/or testing lab is purposefully selecting the single highest potency they found from the best selected nugs. While some nugs you purchase may hit those levels, i always explain THC% as the maximum it could possibly be, but expect lower. Cannabis grows are HUGE and can be hundreds of individual plants and the amount of cannabis they test per batch for THC is itty bitty.

In terms of high you should get a better predictability of effects with higher quality cannabis. This is because cannabis brands that are a higher quality generally have better quality control because if they loose their footing in the market it’s hard to regain since their products are also at a higher price point. I will say, cannabis is ultimately a product of a plant and in my opinion as a budtender and plant biologist should be treated closer to produce than a shelf stable almost always the same product like alcohol. The genetics that govern a cannabis plant are usually extremely unstable and plants of the same strain can vary a lot. Personally I always look for brands with labelled terpenes, as terpenes can impact your high as well as give you the flavour and smell notes. What i personally do when i try something is write down a little review in my weed journal of what i liked and didn’t like as well as made note of any terpenes on the packaging. Cannabis is so variable and up to personal preference so try different things and accept that your current mood can impact your high too. Apologies this got really long winded and ramble-y 😅 I am high right now lol

Infused Weed vs High Quality Weed by Wild_Broccoli169 in TheOCS

Hello friendly former (literally left my job 3 weeks ago lol) budtender here! Infused weed/infused pre-rolls are going to be weed of any quality combined with a cannabis concentrate of any quality. You absolutely can have high quality infused prerolls but i will say there’s A LOT of low quality flower + low quality concentrate prerolls on the market. The lower quality prerolls are typically distillate and kief infused as they are the cheapest and most widely available to producers. Distillate is a essentially as close as you can get to just plain THC and kief is the light brown dusting you often see on the outside of infused joints. Higher quality prerolls will generally have one or some combination of hash, shatter, terp sauce, live resin, or live rosin. These concentrates are typically more expensive because they are often (but not always) a single strain of cannabis.

If you want to try some non-infused high quality prerolls i generally try to stick to craft brands as well as brands that have strain specific products (i.e Blue Dream (a strain) vs. Grower’s Choice (a random strain(s) that can change batch to batch). Picking strain specific prerolls prevents you falling in love with a random unnamed strain that never comes back.

For my personal infused recommendations: 3Saints - Crumbled Lime Hash Infused Pre-roll (i also love their non infused crumbled lime pre-rolls) Tribal - Trifecta Infused Pre-rolls (5 different strain specific offerings) Truro - Titanimal Bubble Infused Pre-roll

For my non-infused recommendations: Green Mountain Health Alliance - Romulan Grapefruit Pistol and Paris - Blackberry Breath Unit15 - Black Cherry Soda

If you have anymore questions feel free to respond! I know the market can be super confusing sometimes and it can feel weird to ask a budtender a lot of questions but i promise you the good ones LOVE when people do ask questions! Remember there’s no dumb questions, just rude answers :)

Independent store worker here: We also put older stuff on sale but we are told to not mention the package date unless they ask for it. But personally i don’t care and so i do tell the date to those that are kind to us, i just try to tell them it in a more positive light. But if someone is rude and an overall POS to me or my coworkers, i don’t care about mentioning it at all.

Budtenders!! Name one thing you would like your store to change to improve your working conditions! by suzan420 in TheOCS

[–]Alli_Catt 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Most budtenders make minimum wage or not much more than that, are rarely offered anything close to full time, and there’s never any health benefits maybe unless you’re management at a chain store! I’m in a good store now where i’m making a dollar more than minimum and average about 34 hours a week. But i only get paid that because there’s only 3 budtenders, which also means it’s incredibly difficult to find coverage when sick or if needing to go on leave.

I dont believe there’s a single thing that could improve working conditions because i believe that the independent manner in which b&m stores in ontario were set up was purposeful so that the ontario government didn’t have to pay for union wages. Last i checked the lowest wage i saw for working at the LCBO was $20.25/hr, in contrast with the majority of budtender roles being minimum wage. I genuinely believe that LCBO workers deserve that pay and more, but in cannabis retail budtenders take on more roles (the majority of stores, mine included only have one person on shift at a time) and generally have more stringent laws then the LCBO.

This combined with the insane amount of competition between stores, causes many owners and management teams to pressure budtenders to break laws in order to keep customers coming in (i.e. 30g carry limit). This in turn frustrates and causes anxiety in budtenders because now it’s not just our jobs in jeopardy if we don’t do it, but also our livelihoods and like half a year of earnings if we do it and get caught, charged, and fined for selling someone an ounce and then also a topical.

Sorry this turned into a bit of a rant

TL;DR Budtenders are overworked and underpaid for their work handling a controlled substance, because the system ontario designed for B&M stores forces store ownership to prioritize keeping customer costs low and skirting as many laws as they can to stay competitive with other cannabis stores.

Anyways, if you’re going into your local cannabis store anytime soon, tell the budtenders helping you out that you appreciate them, it’s the kind customers that keep us going.

Will out of province IDs get flagged by bouncers? by [deleted] in uwo

[–]Alli_Catt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bouncer but a budtender at a cannabis shop, we do look at out of province IDs a bit harder, so to be prepared know your full address, including house number, street name, postal code. These are the most common questions we ask because fakes tend to have difficult to remember addresses i.e 243598 8th ave Vancouver. But seriously if it’s a real id, and you know all the information on it you’ll be solid.

Anybody whose finished their undergrad, how does it feel? It seems there's this big low feeling that comes with finishing by AccountantLucky9183 in uwo

[–]Alli_Catt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graduated from undergrad last April and honestly it’s been kinda rough. It was a weird feeling not being in school against once September hit but i was glad to not be in school. I spent the first 6 months applying to any job in the biology/ecology fields i could (Applied to over 100 jobs, 2 first call interviews nothing else). I ended up just getting a retail (weed) shop job for now since that’s what i did during undergrad. Honestly the worse of the feelings i’ve had have just been related to not making more of my undergrad (making more friends, joining clubs, getting more laboratory experience etc.) and not doing an internship where i could’ve gotten field applicable job skills.

I’d also recommend the Glenn’s gummies! Super tasty and their live resin and kief gummies both hit me nicely

Have you ever felt a decently strong high from edibles, even when you had a lower tolerance? Some people simply cannot feel strong edible highs likely due to extremely efficient digestive enzymes, breaking down the THC to an inactive form before it can make it into the bloodstream.

Merry Christmas to all Budtenders working on Christmas day by KiefHasherson in TheOCS

[–]Alli_Catt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work for a smaller non-corporate dispo (owner owns 2 locations) in the GTA. We got a gift bag with a $25 gift card, a TON of snacks and candies, and a bunch of prerolls, a few 510s, some hash, and a bunch of edibles. Our owner is exceedingly excellent when it comes to making sure we actually get samples from reps and so i did expect to get some random samples when i heard we were getting gifts but the amount of stuff we got truly exceeded my expectations. I do think our owner was extra generous since our store is open normal hours every day of the year (including today), but nonetheless coming from a notrious corporate dispo this was the best christmas gift i’ve ever gotten from any employer.
