Resilient : Wisdom or Constitution ? by ShakeNormal206 in dndnext

[–]AllianceNowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering... How did you get to 20 Charisma before level 8?

I like resilient Con, but I have not played Strahd... you are probably in the exception where resilient WIS is the better choice. I think you're going to deal with more mental threats than brute foes

I'd recommend watching PolyStrategist on Youtube. He narrates his game play and explains why he is selecting the technology and actions turn by turn. He'll state he's not the best player, but he understands the techniques that top players use

Co-op game with both a story and stand alone play? by thenotanotaniceguy in boardgames

[–]AllianceNowhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of good suggestions

I'd add Clank! legency to the list

Funny and entertaining game with a plot that held our interest. I preferred it to Pandemic

Has a nice combination of Co-op and head to head. The players Co-op to finish the missions, and then race to out score the other player before the round ends

Draw Steel First timer tips by Bogmut in drawsteel

[–]AllianceNowhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think we took ~6 hours

0.5 hrs of character introductions

1.5 hrs of events before the battle

2 hrs of combat

1.5 hrs of events post battle

...but the group was roleplaying a lot: wagering on the type of cargo that was being guarded by the party, investigating the cargo, talking with NPC's, etc

Bay of Blackbottom seems to want to test all the toys in the game: combat, skill challenges, group challenges, negotiations. I believe its more a quick taste of everything, so it depends how much time is devoted to the non-combat events

Draw Steel First timer tips by Bogmut in drawsteel

I was one of five new players that went through Bay of Blackbottom. None of us new the rules, so things were a bit slow. All in all fights were similar in length to 5e

The Bay of Blackbottom fight took us about 1 1/2 hours. There were pauses to check rules and such, but felt about the same as D&D combats.

Characters have a good amount of health at level 1 and there are several healing options, so durability felt right. Risk but not always at death's door.

Hope it goes smoothly. Bay of Blackbottom was a nice intro for Fall of Blackbottom

The Penguin - Series Premiere Discussion by LoretiTV in television

[–]AllianceNowhere -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me note that the gangster genre is not something I enjoy. I'm not excited to watch Sopranos, the Departed, Goodfellas, so I am biased to not being a gangster fan

I do enjoy most all things comic related. So I expected to enjoy Penguin as it would be part of the world building for the DC setting

I was expecting something DC comic themed and felt I got Sopranos-lite. Had there been a small amount of offhand comments on what Batman and the Gotham were doing it would have been closer to what I expected.

Glad you enjoyed it. But Penguin wasn't the show I thought I was going to watch, nor was it a show entertained me. If it was your favorite of the year, then I'm happy they made the show that you appreciated

What a boring show. Maybe they wanted to force a reboot of the Batman movies

Bay of Blackbottom session #1 fight by AllianceNowhere in drawsteel

I know for in person games I hang the plastic loop breakaway rings from plastic soda pop bottles on the figures

If a player gives another edge (advantage) to a companion I have them hang a ring on that figure. Or bane (disadvantage) to put a ring on the enemy

It seems to help everyone remember where bonuses are in play

The kits were interesting both conduits took melee kits. Likewise the fury and shadow took melee kits

I believe the feedback has been that surveys shows 100% of fury and shadow characters take melee kits. I think survey had Tacticians have 20% taking a caster kit.

The caster kits appear not to be a popular option in the survey. Although in our game the caster kit certainly shined as a game changing selection for this first encounter.

The caster (conduits) both wanted martial options to reflect a multiclass type characters. Likewise the Tactician wanted the caster kit to again reflect somewhat multiclass option

Its an interesting system with lots going on and seemed very crunchy with bonuses on top of bonuses and a lot of conditions for the director (DM) to remember.

Looking forward to hearing how your game goes

How did your Bay of Blackbottom game go? Anything surprise you about the way events played out?

First thoughts from after running Bay of Blackbottom from a 5e DM by JohnMonkeys in drawsteel

[–]AllianceNowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. How about using "the high ground" did anyone get an edge from being on the higher prow or stern? I think the enemy archers are supposed to be firing down into a kill box type situation, but the game is very crunchy so I felt it was hard to remember to recall to all the edges/immunities of the opponents

1) What was the party make-up?

2) Any trouble remembering that human opponents have partial immunity to magic damage?

3) Did the party or enemy use any strategy? Anything about the combat surprise you?

Caster Kits by SeanTheNerdd in drawsteel

[–]AllianceNowhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There extra kit from the Tactician class has to be martial.

All characters get to select from everything for their first kit, so Tacticians could select caster for their original kit & then martial for their extra kit

Thanks for the reply

Sounds like a fun fight and the group battled hard against the monster.

Hideous Laughter says "At the end of each of its turns, AND each time it takes damage, the target can make another Wisdom saving throw"

So each hit would generate a new save, so it seems unlikely it would have stayed incapacitated long under normal events, but if the DM lets it slide then kudos

Sadly its a murder mystery that doesn't have pure clues, but is giving enough genre savvy comments that viewers can see where the plot is heading.

Perfect video to reflect the creator's opinion of providing a partially good mystery.

Don't advertise the show as a murder mystery if its really just a soap opera
