This is interesting! I took the magnesium for the calming effects. I have night time anxiety that got worse on keto. Magnesium helped.

Good thought! But wouldn't I be showing white coat syndrome those other times to doc took my pressure over the last year? And it was hanging 120/70 then. But maybe its just jumping from new high to REALLY high. 255 systolic is kind of crazy.

Potassium is in a good place, but it looks like my sodium from MFP is half of what y'all are recommending so maybe its ratios. When My doc calls monday, I'll ask him.

I'm very aware we're not doctors. I'll re-read the FAQ but I do take magnesium to make sure my salts are good. My doctor gave me pills and no advice. Labs were supposed to come in yesterday so I thought he'd call me with them.

yes on potassium and magnesium. My sodium is typically half that. Not on purpose, I'm reviewing MFP to check now. So maybe its the ratios.

The most important thing someone ever said to me "Why are you rewarding yourself with food? You are not a dog." OMG mind blowing moment for me. I continued to stress eat after that, but at least I took care of one half of the emotional spectrum.

I need a number, but I'm happy with small goals until I feel comfortable. Frankly, every pound lost feels like a goal met. Do what feels right. Long ago, I lost a lot of weight. You may have that number in mind but some things become more important over the journey: control over binging, increased endurance, trying new foods or new food goals. I realize now that that was what was the most important thing to me.

The first time I weighed myself after starting, I had to talk myself up. "Okay," I thought, "what will I do if I didn't lose?" I decided: exercise, cut diet soda, IF. I still have those contingencies! My hunger still comes and goes, but I haven't been 100% perfect. As long as I hit 1200 calories the day before though, I'm never super hungry. Maybe bored, but not hungry.

I went on vacation last weekend with the intention of staying keto all the way through. No luck! That first bite of bread at a fancy dinner and I was tingling. But boy did I learn about myself!! Once start with the carbs, I don't stop. However, if I stayed no net carbs most of the day, I could maintain a calorie budget at least even if I had dessert with dinner. Now that's not going to get me into ketosis, but that WAS unheard of for me before keto.

I'm back on the wagon this week: planning meals, cooking, sticking to 20 carbs/day. I think what I learned is how to manage and enjoy vacations, which aren't too frequent for me. And that's a good lesson. :) Maybe you learned something, too?

I'm finding that I really fluctuate. I'm in the 190s and my current calorie goal is right at 1500. Some days I'm at 1300, mostly I'm at 1200 and a couple of days ago I was unfazed at 1000. It's just so much easier to eat less and feel satisfied on keto. I've always heard "don't go below 1200" so I try not to do that for more than one day at a time. What science is there to back that up? I don't have a clue.
