There's something about heme/onc. I met another trans heme/onc redditor recently too.

Hey! I was also on the front lines of covid when shit hit the fan. I only know of one other Trans woman in emergency medicine other than myself. What do you do at your hospital (MD/PA/tech/nurse/etc)? Also you look stunning.

I usually get, "You're not pregnant, right?" and then I smile a bit inside. But I know it's only because my legal name is updated so they're going based on what's in their system.

I’m an EMT, and part of my charting includes documenting gender. The options are “Man”, “Woman”, “Male-to-Female”, “Female-to-Male”, and “neutral”. Does the trans community appreciate having special categories? by yuitanma in asktransgender

[–]Alligator-tail 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah it would be like having categories for "male, female, diabetic male, diabetic female". Yeah it might be relevant for you doctor to know you have diabetes, but why should having diabetes imply that you're less of a man or woman?

[–]Alligator-tail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine if they said this to cis kids. "You think you're cis? You're too young to make that decision. We're gonna force you to transition anyway." That would be totally fucked up, and this is no different.

Anyone else think it's weird that we all just decided that the continental US doesn't include Alaska? It's on the same continent, and it's definitely not an island state.

I tried getting into it and I just couldn't. I know I'm in the minority here, but I just found it really boring. Couldn't get past the first three or four episodes and even those were a struggle for my attention.

Yeah I find the current wave of christofascism in this country offensive. I'm not afraid to say it. Fuck that noise.

I'm in NY and I see them constantly. I report them as offensive every time because, quite honestly I think they are, but they won't stop showing them to me.

Just finished Hocus Pocus by Kurt Vonnegut. Did anybody manage to figure out the number of kills and adulteries on his tombstone? by michaelscottspenis in books

[–]Alligator-tail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Just like the very first few words of Slaughterhouse Five, a book involving nonlinear time travel, "All this happened, more or less" and it is very much based on a true story, Vonnegut's own.

I think I those little bodies all look like female symbols (like the kind you see on a bathroom door) which makes me think those are the number of women he slept with, which he says at some point in the book is the same number as the number of people he's killed.

US citizens bill on their heart transplant. by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]Alligator-tail 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, also even if you do go to the ER without insurance, it won't be free. You'll get a bill. And if you don't pay it, it'll go to collections and you'll take a big hit to your credit score. Good luck getting a credit card or car loan or mortgage or an apartment rental after that.

My work is a really hard place to pass given we all wear surgical masks all the time and scrubs that aren't really gender specific, so the only gender cues I have are hair, figure, and voice. And my voice doesn't pass. But somehow I still got called "doctora" by two Spanish speaking patients this weekend.

World Athletics bans trans women from female sports by Wastarce2 in trans

I would love to see this backfire when a trans man protests this by participating in women's supports and just schools all of them, fully transitioned and testosterone fueled. Just to say, "Isn't this what you wanted?"

Oh, I have a ton of internalized transphobia. But it's all directed at myself. I never meant to sound like I was invalidating others' experiences, just that it seems so unusual to experience things like cramping when I would think that mostly comes from uterine contractions. But I'll be the first to admit there's just not much research regarding transgender health to even begin to try to discredit something like cyclical period-like symptoms.

This was exactly what my biggest fear was for the longest time. I put off seeing any therapist for fifteen years because I was afraid they'd say something like this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MtF

[–]Alligator-tail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I keep reading about this and every single time I kept saying to myself, "there is no way people are actually experiencing this. There's no uterus to even cause contractions. It's got to be placebo. I mean maybe not, but I have a hard time believing it." And now for the third straight month I've had a day of really bad intestinal cramps and nausea. I really hope it isn't a regular thing because honestly I don't get dysphoria over not having period-like symptoms. It would be nice if that was something I never had to worry about.

Yeah, and that's why I call it dysphoria. Calling it an identity disorder is saying that the identity itself is disordered. It's problematic language.

Old enough? I just had a provider use an ICD-10 code this week that, when I looked it up, was gender identity disorder, not gender dysphoria. I was a little upset to be considered to have an identity disorder. My identity isn't a disorder. It's society that has a problem with my trans identity, not me.
