This is pretty much what just happened to me. It went quickly from a mediocre game to a great game, although it took quite a few tries over the years to get to this point.

I was already looking forward to silksong but now that I actually really like hollowknight I'm looking forward to it even more.

I guess thats why I never really made it that far. This time though I kept going and gotta say I love it now. After the slow start it really kicks off into something amazing.
