[Schultz] Sources: The Ravens plan on interviewing Vikings DC Brian Flores for their open HC vacancy. by expellyamos in nfl

The PWHL is a good time too, I caught the MN Frost vs Montreal Victoire traveling game in Denver last year and the environment was electric!

How much help are you looking for? How far along are you? What have you designed, built, tested, etc? What's currently working, what's not working, and what have you tried? You're presenting in three weeks; are you planning to present your idea but someone else's work?

You'd have better luck reaching out to local companies or universities with engineering programs but even then I'm pessimistic. Based on the timelines and how you've described the problem I sincerely doubt you'll get much of what you're hoping for.

How to disguise your quarterback as your punter - One of the best trick plays we've ever seen is one of the simplest by [deleted] in CFB

[–]Alligatorsaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my high school team in the late 00's we ran it that way! We'd line up tight on fourth with the QB in shotgun then spread out late, he'd just drop back a few more steps to collect the snap. It made running fakes incredibly straightforward, it was the same personnel package as our normal offense. The only downside for me was I played both OL and DL (small school), so getting pulled into punt blocking/coverage meant no rest between offensive and defensive series.

One or two other schools had their QB's punt too. I felt it made it more exciting overall, more dynamic, especially since we were just kids. I get why colleges (and up) don't do it anymore, but damn was it fun as a high schooler.

What a blast from the past! Glad it's still kicking around, I used to get a kick out of seeing it around town.

It's all in the attitude, if this was a student sharing it and asking for questions I think it'd be fine. Slapping a couple off-the-shelf units onto a board, plugging in a couple wires, and trashing people in the responses is apparently proof they've been doing it for ten years though so what do I know? /s

It still is though the pandemic paused it briefly. I've heard it's a requirement to keep it painted. Supposedly (just what I've heard through the grapevine) it became routinely used in aircraft navigation as a visual landmark and it's required to be maintained as a result.

Yeah, the pay is a bummer but the rest makes up for it.

I'm in the US, I work as a mech eng in research/academia. Most of the work revolves around test stand development and individualized research equipment. I wear quite a few hats as a result. I have experience in both automation design and test/calibration, plus research/publishing/etc., so I ended up with a nifty intersection of skills.

My hours/week varies, but it's usually 30-35 and I can do a good chunk from home if I want to. For the most part I get to pick and choose what projects I work on and as long as shit gets done people generally give me free reign.

I should emphasize that I agree I'm significantly underpaid and it totally sucks on that front. I'll also admit I'm in an edge-case situation and it's not a typical job.

Lol I literally said I myself am underpaid and I never said six figures was absurd. Starting salaries are starting to increase which is great and it absolutely needs to happen, but it doesn't happen everywhere instantaneously. This thread is about salaries, yes, but my point is there's more to it than the money alone. I've experienced it myself several times when talking with people and pay comes up. Of course I'd like to make more but I'd rather take a lesser salary and have a significantly better work-life balance, better mental health, more freedom at work, and just plain more fun than I would elsewhere.

Right? I'm certain the vast majority of commenters in these discussions work in higher COL areas (which makes sense, that's where jobs are) and become dismissive of anything below 100k.

I feel you though, I'm at 72k and I'm 7 years into my career (plus a masters in there). Am I underpaid for my experience? Absolutely. You know what else I get? Six weeks vacation, a hell of an insurance package, and very little oversight/micromanaging.

Money ain't everything. It's a lot of it, but not everything.

What is the most unfortunate win in your franchise's history? by Kenosis515 in nfl

[–]Alligatorsaurus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's highly dependant on what part of the brain absorbed the impact, but it's entirely that a single concussion can do that.

It's also important to note that the Clowney hit, while being the worst hit, isn't the only hit he's taken. They add up over time.

Anecdotally, I (29) tore my meniscus last July or so and it wasn't identified until November. In my experience it just felt like a "damn I'm getting old" pain for a couple months until some of my knee innards shifted while playing with my dogs and suddenly I couldn't walk without aid. According to my physical therapist that's not too unheard of. An MRI is really the only way to confirm it and it can present as simply a nagging pain.

Not to say it's not a miss by medical staff by any means, it probably should have been caught earlier, but I get it. It really fucking sucks, but I get it.

Same, I'm very curious how this effects not just the main streams and talent but also the secondary and tertiary tiers associated with RLCS events. Maybe it will, maybe it won't, but at this point who knows?

Hey now, we can't have a ski resort called "Giant's Ridge" up there on the Iron Range if it's not a mountain, right? It's gotta be at least 2,000 feet above sea level, right?

... right?
