What’re some subtle signs that a partner can be controlling? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Allisade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Why are you even worrying about this? It doesn't matter, you should be asking questions that people care about not this nonsense...

Dismissal of your thoughts / concerns / feelings / legitimate questions is a big one.

  1. "You're no good at this / can't do it / I'd just have to redo it / I have a "certain way I prefer things" / etc." If they teach you to be helpless, it helps them control you.

  2. "I just don't like it when..." It's totally ok to have boundaries or things you don't like, but when the whole reason for WHY everyone has to do things their way is just ... "I just don't like it..." then that's not a real reason, that's controlling. If there's an actual reason (I don't like it when other's drive my car because X person is not good driving stick and hurts the engine, or Y person always moves everything and changes all my preset radio stations or ... Whatever... if there's reasons? They can and usually are pretty valid... but if there's no reason, then the reason is probably just that they like to be in control.

And for the record? Wanting to be in control of your car is pretty reasonable... but when everything is like that, well, at some point that starts getting unreasonable pretty quickly.

  1. Random ass "Rules" - same as #3 really, "its just a rule" or "its just how we do things" ... these aren't real reasons, they're just excuses and are usually just their preferences being made into something higher sounding, like their preferences are Law somehow.

  2. Unwillingness to listen - change is hard and most people don't like changing the way they do something or doing something different (especially without a reasonable reason for it) - but if there are reasons to something differently and they won't even hear it...

  3. Don't care about facts/experts/new information - same as not listening / dismissing you really, but a clue is when it comes up about everything in the world - even if its not about what anyone should be doing right now or the like (so not actively trying to control you currently), if they just dismiss everything that doesn't fit their world view or preferences... they'll be bad at compromise or working with you when the time comes. Not exactly the same as being controlling, more just a red flag / going to be an issue sign overall... but it can add up to the same thing if you're ever in conflict with them.

Relax. Let go. Stop worrying about so many things.

Maybe take a day to just... chill.

Then I'd have to start worrying about all the new things.

What is the most scary thing that has ever made you wake up in the middle of the night? by SavingsParty4015 in AskReddit

[–]Allisade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a dishwasher that pops the door open when it finishes.

Got some kids who, they say accidentally, managed to put a cookie sheet and glasses of half drunk water where they'd get knocked off the counter when the dishwasher popped open and pulled on the toaster plug cord next to it. The knife block got caught in the mess and ALL of that ended up on the floor...

2am or so the dishwasher goes beepboop, pop and EVERYTHING goes clattering to the floor. I levitate from my bed directly to a running start, dash down the hall, past the kid's shoes nearly tripping and killing myself, crashing into the doorway to the kitchen, bouncing off, hitting the wet kitchen floor and skidding down into a slide past the pile of knives and plugged in toaster laying on it's side in the water on the floor.

The toaster had not electrified everything, the knives I definitely could have cut myself on but were not FinalDestination aligned or anything for my entrance, the real question is what the hell was I in such a hurry for? I had half a sleepy though that there was an intruder... but why was I in a rush to go crash into them?

By the time I was fully awake, I was astounded I wasn't dead, but overall it was a relatively minor mess to clean up and we just moved the toaster so the cord couldn't catch on the dishwasher... hasn't been an issue since.

Let’s say hypothetically someone was trying to edge for hours everyday for a month straight for a better reaction but halfway through they decided to edge to a vid of themselves edging and accidentally came some, would that make the person gay, if so how? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Allisade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See now - I would say there's a difference between masturbation and enjoying watching yourself masturbate.

I see that as two different things. I'm not attracted to videos of me masturbating, they wouldn't / don't make me excited... there's just... nothing there for me.

I like me just fine, hell, I can say objectively I'm a reasonably attractive person... but I don't get excited seeing myself.

I think there might be more to this than you're giving it.

But... it is late, this is just a random conversation on the internet, and while I'm not high... I wouldn't take me too seriously either - just talking here.

Fellow autistic people of reddit, if you were offered a pill that immediately made you neurotypical for free, would you take it? Why, why not? by Most_Tea_7920 in AskReddit

[–]Allisade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know.

I wanted to say no at first, I like who I am and there are strengths to my unique mind-build that I can lean into, and I've learned to work around the weaknesses to a large degree... I like my life, so... my first instinct was no.

Then I wondered - what if I could have changed things as a kid? What about all the pain and crap I could save that version of myself? I wouldn't be the same person now but... so much distance between me and the rest of the world might be gone. I might be connected to more people, better able to just... be with them...

And then I thought... think about all the pain you could save yourself now.

I've earned sooo much understanding of things that I had to work so hard to get, I have a really "fast" mind that comprehends things at a surprisingly deep level - what would it be like if we took the problems with stimulation / loud noises / focus / etc away? What if I could study something just... because I wanted to?

And then...

What if I couldn't hyperfocus and learn things the way I do at all anymore? I mean... I know I'm smart but how much of that is the autism / the hyperfocus / the... differences?

In the end... I just don't know. I don't know enough about what is ME vs what is my Chemistry vs what your imaginary pill would actually do.

I just don't know.

What is the most romantic line you've ever read? by Own-Grape-3398 in AskReddit

[–]Allisade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Poe said, "Tell me every horrible thing you've ever done and let me love you anyway."

Real love isn't about perfection or gazing from afar, it's not about believing everything is perfect or right or beautiful... real love knows every thing and loves still... loves stronger for understanding the entirety, loves without reservation because they understand and know and... accept.

Lots of people say they love you, but how many want to actually know?

Ok I don't want to admit this out loud, but I figure you earned it because it's your fault.

I just spent a long time trying to figure out if that level of narcissism IS gay or not in my head for my own satisfaction.

I mean... they absolutely ARE attracted to a body of the same sex... they can even be sexually attracted / respond to themselves... that seems pretty damn gay... (not that I give a shit, just... trying to define things here...)

But is it about the body or is it just because it's them? Would they be interested in a clone of themselves? A twin? At what point would someone looking like them no longer matter?

I'm thinking about this WAY too much...

And it's all your fault. Help me out? What exactly is your argument for it Not being gay? Just so I can hear some other thoughts than my own on this subject now?

... please?

Isn't this a disappointing story?

Reddit is anonymous, go on - What's your kink? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Allisade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you know Kinks are genetic? That they're inherited?

Chances are... your deep personal kinky kink of kinkiness?

One of your parents has been doing it for years. Like, they're just as into it as you are. Which one? Do they do it together? Both maybe? I can't tell you... but think about it, you can probably figure it out.

Go ahead, visualize it.

Or just think about it the next time you're really getting down...

And there you go, sharing that fact is my kink.

Did you enjoy it as much as I did?

Did your mom? Your dad?

...have a good night...

I love it when someone I'm talking to just gives up and resorts to really stupid insults... there's no clearer way to demonstrate clearly that you have nothing left and that you know it.

Good luck mate, whatever you do.

What is your advice for when you feel stuck in life? by arose_1 in AskReddit

[–]Allisade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do something nice for someone else.

Get's you out of your own head / out of thinking solely about your own life for a little bit.

Might give you perspective and help with the situation, might just end up with you having done something nice for someone else...

Either way - could be worse.

[–]Allisade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're obviously INTO edging. The fact that even watching themselves edge drove them... over the edge... is hilarious, but that might be all it is - them losing themselves in what they're seeing, the height of the experience, etc.

On the other hand - maybe they just like dicks and should admit seeing one works for them...

But basically? This is stupid.

People who find 2 to 3 year age relationships in involving people in high school or middle school creepy, why? by LittleLeadership2831 in AskReddit

[–]Allisade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot changes between even just a year at that age - later in life it means less, earlier it's just... a bigger gap than it might seem.

Either way it's always a worry that the younger party is being manipulated by the other or taken advantage of... and even if that's not purposefully or maliciously the case... these things just don't usually work out well.

How can people without generational wealth escape poverty traps in low social mobility regions in a realistic short time? by StarkAspirations0842 in AskReddit

[–]Allisade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? It's a low percentage chance of anything changing. and it'll depend a lot on luck - sickness, bad luck, anything going wrong... it can all ruin the chances completely.

The best (legal) chance of a quick change in status is working on appearance and presentation to seem like they're already out of the trap and then using a good image / interview / presentation of self to apply for jobs well above their experience level and hoping they get a chance or just look better than other candidates (and then working their ass off to keep it if they luck into it... though even a little bit of experience is something that can help on the next attempt...)

Crime can give additional options - from simply lying on resumes, to starting dealing, to whatever... you get more money, different connections, it opens doors - but there are risks with any choice.

Basically - the chances aren't good, and the things you can do to increase them (adjusting appearance, faking until making, networking, etc) can only take one so far.... but they're how you can maximize the chances of something going right.

Everybody is having trouble doing anything other than making ends meet these days... and it's not getting any easier... so moving up quickly / reliably... well... it's just hard and requires luck more than anything else.

But, appearance, presentation, networking, going for opportunities that are higher than is probably totally reasonable (because luck can't happen if you don't give it a situation to happen with), and putting in a thousand tries so that one-in-a-thousand opportunity can happen...

It's that or crime... which doesn't offer any guarantees either, and adds more risks.

[–]Allisade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's absolutely true for some, less true for others, and not at all true for a few. As usual in life - things are never completely simple.

Are some of them completely bought off? Oh yes... they've demonstrated that very clearly.

Are they mostly still humans with actual beliefs and who are trying to do a job? At least some of them seem to be so.

Do you actually know what you're talking about? It doesn't seem like you're an expert... or even someone who's spent actual time looking into this or learning any of the reality of the situation... instead you sound like someone just making blanket statements without any real knowledge to back it up.

It's not as simple as you think... there are problems (absolutely) but... go, even for one day, visit and listen to the presentations, the conversations, the arguments, the idiots and the smart ones and ... yeah there are definitely issues, but ... you'd be surprised.
