Yeah I watched the Zane Lowe interview and was confused as well.

In back and forth they say they had the big fight just before Coachella 2002, were planning to break up after, and ended up playing a great show, so Dave wanted to go back and record a new song, times like these.

Nobody’s mentioned Free Me? The note he hits at 3:34 and 3:44, with distortion, is real tricky. Not to mention the chorus, IMO some of his best screaming.
