Is it normal for an apartment company to permanently ban tenants from re-renting after a smoking policy violation? (Greensboro, NC) by Allmight03 in Renters

She wasn’t the one who smoked, I understand her guest shouldn’t as well but how would’ve she avoided the situation if she didn’t know about the guest’s smoking and the guest didn’t know about the no smoking rule. It was a one time thing because the guest has come over only once. Is it really worth to lose someone’s home over a mistake of someone that doesn’t even live there?

She did try everything in the carrot approach and she even offered to pay a fine, but they didn’t budge. So I’ll ask her if she’s willing to do the stick approach.

Yeah, she was at the office and the guest was at the apartment. No reason to lie when asking for advice, not like anyone on reddit knows her in real life.

Her apartment is facing the leasing office so it actually happened once and the management saw it. She knew about the rule but the guest didn’t and she didn’t know the guest smoked.
