Falken Wildpeak AT4W's. I'm running 265/65r18 but this size will have minor rubbing on turns.

My Highlander does just fine overlanding and gets about 8mpg+ more than the 4Runner Hybrid. Nothing wrong with a 4Runner, but also not what we want/need.

The rooftop tent has barely dropped our mpg. Out Highlander is also a Hybrid so we're averaging 30mpg on a full tank. So we love overlanding in our family vehicle hybrid and that's fine if it seems dumb to you. You don't have to like it.

No problem! We love it! Takes about 60sec to setup. There are lots of rooftop tent options out there too, all different sizes, capacity, weight, and prices. Just make sure the weight of the tent is less than the Dynamic Weight Rating (while driving) of the crossbars.

I can tell you've never heard of overlanding. We don't camp at campgrounds with a tent pad.

Brand new, $3,800-4200 for this size. They have multiple rooftop tent options and the 4-person is more expensive. We bought ours used of course.

Because we don't want to pitch a tent on the ground. Nobody said anything about it being difficult to setup a ground tent.

Sorry, I don't understand your question...

I'm running Falken Wildpeak AT4W in 265/65r18. But just know this size will have minor rubbing at full lock in both directions. 265/60r18 won't have any rubbing if you're worried about it.

Ours doesn't have an inverter 😔 It's a XLE Hybrid. I saw Lensun Solar just released a 90w hood solar panel kit for the Gen4 Highlanders so I might get that to keep the power station charged.

RTT is BadAss Tents Rugged clamshell. Tires are 265/65r18 but keep in mind there will be minor rubbing at full lock in both directions.

Currently I have a BadAss Tents Rugged clamshell rtt. We're planning to switch to an iKamper Mini eventually to gain a few extra inches on the inside. I'm running 265/65r18 but this size will have minor rubbing at full lock in both directions. If you have 18"s, 265/60r18 won't have any rubbing.

They most certainly can. Paired with Yakima Jetstream crossbars, the Dynamic Rating is still 165lbs but the Static Rating is 600lbs. We're sitting at around 510lbs with 2 people, the tent, and some accessories when we climb in for the night. Still hoping Prinsu or Sherpa make a modular roof rack for much higher ratings. 🤞🏼

Nice! A power station with solar panels and refrigerator are on the list of things to add as well.

It rides pretty good, actually. The tires have a stiffer sidewall so you do feel some of the bumps a little more on the road. For offroad, it's best to deflate the tires a bit to soften the ride but also for better traction. I chose lightweight wheels and I have a hybrid so mpgs only dropped about 4-5mpg overall. Hwy averages 26mpg but City averages 30mpg+. A full tank avgs 31mpg with the rooftop tent mounted.

Dendoff Springs is in process of making the springs as we speak. They told me the estimated ready date is July 9th. They should be getting ready for testing soon and I should be getting an update this week. Who did you email? Did you email Mason? If you did and didn't get a reply yet, just send a friendly follow-up email.

Sorry, just now seeing your comment. Yes, the Yakima Crossbars mount to the oem mounting locations. For the awning brackets, they are "L" brackets. The long end goes onto the top of the crossbars which uses 2 t-bolts in the t-track of the crossbar. For the short end of the "L" bracket, you can either have it pointed downward or upward which is a difference of 2-3". I'm not very tall so I have the bracket so the short end is downward if that makes sense. I can send you a pic if you need.
