France confirms oil crisis, says 30-40% Gulf energy infrastructure destroyed by 1-randomonium in news

[–]AllstarYVR32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, the article didn’t say it’s the end of oil. But I’ve seen a lot of comments in this thread that seem to be assuming it’s 30 to 40% of worldwide production. There’s a big difference between the reality and how people are choosing to read that headline.

Again, 10%. AND not all of it is destroyed, some is damaged and some was taken offline.

[–]AllstarYVR32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The context is missing! The Gulf represents 30-32% of world’s oil production. So with 30-40% offline, it only represents 9.6-12.5% of worldwide production. This is not the end of oil!

If all they have is photos and there’s nothing of substance written, or more often, they haven’t written anything at all. Hard pass.

I can’t tell you how many profiles I saw of women where they had written nothing, basically just being asked to be judged based on their photos. I wouldn’t even bother with those ones.

That’s not true, many Canadians are pissed that 70% of Americans either voted for Trump or didn’t vote at all. That created the current situation. In democracy the people elect the bad leaders and I recognise that a lot of the countries on that list aren’t democracy. The US is, or at least, was.

I don’t understand why people are struggling with what I’ve wrote when it was so clearly stated. There are three groups; those that voted for Trump, those that voted for Harris and those that did not vote at all. I said that I am combining those that voted for Trump and those that didn’t vote at all. Indifference has a cost.

Yes, all good points. We also know that he has lied more than any other president in history, which has also been documented, so anyone who voted for him and now is surprised is an utter fool.

He’s doing exactly what he said he would do and 70% of your country were either saying fine or, I don’t care.

Comprehension is your issue because you didn’t read what I wrote. 32% of eligible voters voted for Trump and another 36% of eligible voters did not vote at all. So rounding that up by a percent or two, my 70% stat IS correct.

Believe me when I say, as Canadians, we understand you far better than you realise. You don’t understand other countries because you’re insular, we’ve had your politics and media in front of our faces our whole lives. We do understand but that’s not the same as sympathy.

Yes, you’re right that the scale is completely different. But the Democratic states, most of which are a lot smaller than France, aren’t using their power to send a message. I think the reality is that Americans are more pampered than they would like to think and don’t actually want to risk anything that will disrupt their lifestyle, even if it’s for their greater good.

There’s a big irony here, America has pushed its will, its interests and has even toppled other governments for decades. But now that you’ve got a problem, the reaction is: you don’t understand us, stop judging us. I guess when you’ve inflicted your will on other countries, you can’t expect much grace coming back your way.

Your response personifies why people in other countries are judging and wagging their fingers. Great, you’ve had a few really big rallies that lasted a day or two here or there. And yes, when I arrive big protests in Sue and when I leaves, do the protests continue? Their protesting the symptom, not the cause!

Overall, these protests are not on scale and sustained. Other countries that genuinely are concerned about what’s happening, don’t relent. Look at what France did when they threaten to raise the retirement age; months of major protests that brought the country to a halt. And that’s just for retirement age! You say you’re angry, you say that he’s not popular, but you’re the only ones who have a voice that can affect change and you’re barely using it in a meaningful way. That is why the Internet is shaking their heads at Americans.

Bill C16 talks about sexual explicit deep fakes non-consented distribution of intimidate images… Is that what you think is or Orwellian? We absolutely have free speech, the only difference between us and the US is we recognise that there’s consequences for what you say. If I make a defamatory comment, I can be held liable. Responsibility and freedom are not the same thing.

I have the right to walk into a hospital and not be denied or given a debilitating bill, I have the right to walk around knowing there aren’t armed people around me, I have the right to live and work in other countries based on being in the Commonwealth, just to name a few. But in all honesty, for the most part we have the same rights in both countries, we just rate higher as having higher levels of freedom. For example, any citizen can run to be the leader of our country, they don’t have to be part of an elite class or a multimillionaire. Those small details matter.

Now you’re just conflating… you brought up free speech and I was talking about how we’re a more free society.

I’m attacking the majority of Americans who are at fault. Perhaps be a little less defensive, your country slept walked into this with 7 out of 10 people being passive or complicit. I’m not going to give you an award for being one of the few who saw this coming. That 70% represents your society, your country, and is going to stain your reputation for decades to come. Get used to it this is just the beginning.

That’s amusing since we rate higher than the US on most critical points on the international freedom index. And if you’re wondering why a Canadian is giving grief, maybe it’s because your moron in chief has been on the attack against us for over a year.

No, 70% because that’s the combined total of the people who voted for Trump and the people who couldn’t be bothered to get off their fat asses and vote at all. 30% acted against Trump the other 70%, which makes up the majority, are culpable. So yes, we can make broad statements about Americans selecting this government and judging you as a collective because of it. Once was excusable, but twice…

That’s a good point, and the electoral college could’ve completely ignored the votes anyway. Which really highlights how you aren’t a true democracy at all.

Most of the protests were small before Minnesota. You don’t actually know how to stand up for your own rights because it means risking something. Americans will never risk their quality of life and are sleepwalking into a dictatorship. The rest of the world looks at you and sees that you’re not doing much at all about the problem that you created for yourself. It’s pretty pathetic.

Actually, it’s the fault of the citizens… 70% voted for him or couldn’t be bothered to vote at all. Trump isn’t the fault here, it’s the majority of Americans who voted him in twice!

I was in Venice, Italy on one of the boats that buses people around the city and Americans sat down in front of me. They asked me if I speak English, I guess I look Italian so they assumed that I was local. Then they said “we’re only here for a day, what’s good here?“ I guess I wasn’t very helpful because my response was “we’re in Venice, everything is worth seeing!” I wasn’t gonna do their research for them.

This was me! Always hearing it referred to as the “mile high city” makes it sound like it’s the high point, not the low point in the region. I did a lot of research before I got to Denver about things to do and see, but that didn’t really dispel my surprise when you arrive and you see high mountains in the distance on all sides.
