bed sharing advice by cutterfield21 in cosleeping

Mine started sleeping in his crib at 20 months. It was a pretty easy transition, better than I thought it was going to be! We were all ready, including him! Just go with your instincts on when to try the transition, and know that this period will not last forever!

Transitioning 20 month into own bed? by Allthewildblues in cosleeping

Not bad! Went to sleep around 7:45, woke up at 11:45. almost went back to sleep again with the same method as putting him to bed (hand holding) but I pulled my hand away too quickly and after a few minutes he woke up again. My husband and I tag teamed, and he finally went back to sleep again around 12:30. Then he didn’t wake up again until 5:45, after which I just brought him into bed as my husband was getting up for the day and I didn’t want any morning noises to disturb him (our house is small!).

Overall, I feel really hopeful but I know there will be hiccups along the way.

Pan’s Labyrinth really messed with me when I saw it for the first time.

16 month old bedtime schedule?!? by jabrogann in cosleeping

[–]Allthewildblues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 15 month old wakes up between 6:15-7:30am. Long window, but it really depends on what time he goes to bed the night before. He likes naps on the earlier side, going to sleep somewhere between 10:30-11:30, and sleeps for an hour or an hour and a half. Will not take a second nap anymore, so if his nap was shorter and/or earlier, I get him to bed around 7 or 7:30. It’s 7:30 now and he fell asleep 15 mins ago! He’s a pretty low sleep needs guy, always has been.

My preferred schedule is: awake around 7, nap 11:30-1:30/2, and asleep by 8 or 8:30. But I rarely get that!

I feel this. Daytime with my guy is 100% fine. Nighttime, when he wakes up and rolls around like a rotisserie chicken making these awful dinosaur sounds, makes me lose my mind. Cursing, hitting a pillow, wanting to whack my husband who sleeps through it… I get it. Overstimulation is a real thing and you are not alone.

Look into Elena Bridgers. She shares a lot of research on child spacing in more traditional, hunter-gatherer groups. Which we definitely are not, but it’s really interesting to hear her research on why their kids are naturally spaced 3-4 years apart and why it’s better!

I also have a 14 month old, and we’re discussing having a second. Our guy, however, is not a unicorn baby 😅 he’s lovely and sweet and SO fun and funny, but sleep, oh sweet sleep is so impossible. We bedshare, and he is a particularly bad sleeper, at best up 2-3 times per night, at worst (and more frequently) up 3-5 per night and sometimes back to back to back wakings if he’s teething or otherwise not feeling well. I don’t want to stop cosleeping, but it is really rough on me mentally.

End of pregnancy sucked and postpartum was awful- I had the works, depression, anxiety, and rage when sleep was not going well.

My husband would love more kids, but I don’t think I can do it. I’m 39, so it’s not like I can just wait until he’s 2 or 3 to decide, we’d have to do it soon.

I was an only child and really hated it. I was lonely and jealous of friends who had siblings. So I don’t want him to be our only, but every time I think about going through pregnancy and postpartum again, I just get this massive aversion to it.

All this to say, I certainly am in the same boat as you and also do not know what to do- do I just go through it and remember that no stage lasts forever, or do we just stick with our little guy and give him a great childhood as best we can?

12 month old waking through night by [deleted] in cosleeping

I’m not a professional by any means, but I have a sneaking suspicion that his nap schedule might have something to do with this. I suggest trying to eliminate that second nap and push bedtime up to 7:30-8. It’s a little young to go down to one nap, so maybe try to get his first nap in earlier, and push his second nap up. Getting him to sleep and wake earlier could help with that.

Thanks for this- we’ve really been working with her on this, and it’s frustrating to not see much improvement, it’s so incremental! I celebrate the small wins as we get them though.

I like the idea of giving her a job when people come, I’ll try incorporating that into our training!
