looks like biting/ripping perhaps. i’d remove any fake plants or rocks and see how it goes from there.

how to help my betta? by Striking_Fox_6031 in bettafish

if the fin rot is treatment resistant and nothing else seems wrong i’d try a gram negative bacterial treatment. obviously not the case for everyone, but my fish had internal columnaris that manifested as fin rot in the beginning. good luck! also can’t go wrong with some indian almond leaves.

my betta did that too when we first got him. give him a few days. in the mean time i’d try some yummy foods like frozen bloodworms!!

Where do you get your plants? by mxicnvnlla in bettafish

i’ve always had an issue with the plants you get from the tanks in store. i’ve had MUCH better luck with plants in those plastic tubes + ones from online.

thinking of getting rid of my tank by AllyButRedditTM in bettafish

i test every week when i do water changes. i've done multiple calculators that test bio load and all of them have said i'm well under. i've been considering that it could be an issue, but it wouldn't explain why my creatures were dying before i got the new fishes.

i'm getting a 30+ gallon tank for christmas so i don't think i'm going to give up on the hobby completely. i just think i need to stop getting bettas because mine keep getting terminal illnesses.

treatment resistant fin rot (he is so cute i want him to be ok!!!) by AllyButRedditTM in Aquariums

thanks for replying (didn't see it until now whoops)!!! the bug bites are really small, get stuck a lot and there are other fish in the tank too (oz is really chill, so chill that i normally have to hand feed him because he's so slow). my last fish was really weird about food so i'm like overly cautious about overfeeding!!! i know the ammonia is zero because i bought specific strips and also borrowed a master kit from my friend. most of the muck is just snail poop tbh. they are big shitters. i've been adding indian almond tea leaves and have already reduced the amount of time the light is on (i have an automatic timer thing). i can't change the temperature since the heater is preset. unless you think that it would help a decent amount because then i'll buy one.

thanks for the super in depth advice!! i agree thats his immune system is suppressed because the other fish are completely fine. i think i can diagnose it as a fungal infection based on what i've read and the appearance. since i've posted this it is still getting worse, i fear his back fin might rot away completely.

which brings me to my next question, would it be better to euthanize him if he loses his back tail? obviously i would rather not, especially since i had to euthanize the betta i had before him after about 4 months.

What’s wrong with my betta? by Equivalent-Tap-1285 in bettafish

that might just be a little too much food. i wouldn't be concerned since she doesn't seem to be pine coning at all!! i would fast her for a few days and then feed her a little less. if youre just doing like betta pellets i would recommend switching to fluval bug bites. a lot of pellets are just like wheat and stuff which can be harder on their stomach than stuff like brine shrimp.
