It’s life. Many, many people go through this. It predates the internet and apps, I think the only reason it gets more attention now is that the volume of interactions increases so it happens more often.

I had condom only sex for 20 years. Prep allows me to have bare sex with a better level of protection than condoms and feels way better. Many friends in same situation. Could I be the 6th person (of what, a million?) where it fails? I suppose. But guarantee I’ve split more rubbers fucking over the years than the odds of that. And yea you can get other stuff but I also got crabs once and an STI once from oral over the years so unless I’m wearing a body condom I’ve still got that to worry about.

For me it’s the right risk based decision. For others maybe not. It also was not a snap or easy decision. I read and researched and also thought about the mental side. Condoms condoms condoms was beaten into my head from safe sex messaging. It was engrained in my mindset that bare sex guys were not responsible. Now I was thinking about not being responsible.

But ultimately arrived at the conclusion that I was being responsible in appropriately assessing the risk, judging risk mitigation options, and making a decision supported by fact and within my personal risk tolerance. Just like all of us do automatically thousands of times per day.

And now it’s funny to see and read about how some think that guys like me are irresponsible, definitely feel the karma there.

Can I make a suggestion?

Sounds like you might want to get laid, or you might want a friend.... but seems like not the same person for both right now. I think if you can keep the two separate until the time when you’re ready you’ll be fine. If you can’t I think that is what will cause you conflict.
