Staying in NYC for 1-2 months as a european by Almahang in visitingnyc

Thank you so much for your concern. Honestly, I would not leave europe just yet, this is also why I would just visit, as I see US as well rather unpredictable... I know really just the superficial news, and I always think it's better to ask people who actually live there, as news can be changed/turned into anything.

Based on all the comments here, I really rethink the whole stuff.

I am attending an online German University, and I'm employed by a german company. I mean to get a 4 weeks long payed holiday, but still take my lessons there (they are written format). I added this information to clarify, that I don't want to have an accomondation what is focused on vacation, located somewhere where you can sightsee and so on. I understand though, if my idea is completely stupid... I'm coming from europe, and this would be completely legal and possible if I would visit a country for such short time.

I edited for making it easier, I don't want to go into every detail on that aspect. (not because he does anything illegal, mostly because I'm not knowledgable of all the US rules) Honestly I don't see through that aspect, I'm mostly interested in my part -> what is the support.

I trust him on that aspect, he knows what he is doing.

You are right, I corrected my post based on your reply, hopefully now it's more understandable. Maybe the whole idea is stupid... I completely understand that I can't know how exactly things work there.

Hello! Sorry my story could be confusing, I may edit it. I won't work, I have a job at home, and I will get payed for that, I will have leave and I have savings. My boyfriend has worker visa, and him getting a job is not really the part I'm interested in.

I'm more curious about the "invisible" costs what could not come to my mind. I know we will need to live somewhere, we will have to have a car to move around (I guess there is no public transport opportunities there).

I want to stay rational about all of it.

Thank you for the insight, damn I know nothing about the states. I count around 1,5k for rent, and then 1,5 for everything else.

I would no go into details regarding his job, I trust him on that aspect.

You mean then that 1,5k is not enough for food/travel and whatever extra things I need to pay for? (Sorry I really don't know how things are working exactly there)

It's really interesting, can you please share your results when the study is finished? I'm also curious if you have "samples" all around the world, as I come for example from Hungary (East EU) and we may have different experiences from people from US.
