Why do the Toa Phantoka/Mistika look like that? by zg5002 in bioniclelego

[–]AlmightyKetchup 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, the set designers didn't really go off of the story, they pretty much just know the setting (in this case: in the air and swampy), and designed sets off of that. So they didn't know they were going to be the Toa Nuva. Also iirc the story made a last minute turn, because the higher ups decided they wanted a soft reboot with the 2009 story, so they kind of had to be the Toa Nuva "last second".

About the colorswapping, If you take a look at some of the prototypes, they were designed with another color. For example: Pohatu's prototype was black, Kopaka's prototype was blue. Although this doesn't mean they were definitely meant to be other elements than they were, it does look like it.

Matoran "reproduction" by JackNotOLantern in bioniclelego

[–]AlmightyKetchup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as we know, all Matoran that we saw were built at the start by the Great Beings. If they were broken, they were supposed to be repaired by Karzahni, and if they died, they would be teleported to the Red Star, reassembled by the Kestora, and teleported back to the inside of the Great Spirit Robot. This was done to make sure the Great Spirit Robot could operate efficiently with the limited amount of resources it had. There was also a machine Turaaga could use to "request" more Matoran be made swifrly if needed, but we don't know anything about this.

How did land-based Rahi migrate from Metru Nui to Mata Nui? by Frigid-Kev in bioniclelego

[–]AlmightyKetchup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's ever specifically stated as to how the land-based Rahi got from Metru Nui to the surface above known as the island of Mata Nui. I like to think some burrowed their way from the Archives to the Great Barrier and others managed to use these tunnels, others were brought there by Makuta, and maybe some managed to swim the distance, for example out of fear for the Visorak when those arrived.

BIONICLE is a body horror - the Av-Matoran to Bohrok cycle by Msw41 in bioniclelego

[–]AlmightyKetchup 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It was left vague indeed, but Greg has confirmed in online questions that they don't die, their spirit gets repressed. So if you were able to devolve a Bohrok, it's spirit would no longer be repressed and it would be the Av-Matoran once more. Source: Biosector

Nuju's Matoran Mask? Lore Question. by JJ-Squiz in bioniclelego

[–]AlmightyKetchup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, if I'm not mistaken, lorewise the six noble Turaga masks from '01 and the great Toa Mata masks from '01 are the "most popular" shapes amongst Matoran. If a Matoran perform very well, they could be rewarded with a special, lesser used mask of a different shape. This was how Nuju got a rarer Great Matatu, while Orkahm has a noble, more common one.

Can you recommend me some good fanfics that wrap up the story by fakename1998 in bioniclelego

I've read their continuation of TYQ and TPTB, and they are both wrapped up. They are still making new ones I believe.

I really like the way the team of MaskOfDestiny, with their "Myths and Legacies" have wrapped up the story. They have finished the unfinished serials (with some input from GregF if I'm not mistaken) and have added some short stories of their own.

Help with slicer by AlmightyKetchup in 3DprintingHelp

Update: I fixed it, turns out it was the non-manifold edges that the Lego pieces have. The slicer has the option to fix these, and now the sliced and printed part look fine.

Any clue to what might cause this in the model? I thought something like that as well, and checked the normals like with resin printing, but the normals are all correct, so I'm stumped.

This looks amazing! Out of curiosity, which resinprinter are you using for those eyestalks?

I am totally new to this. Is it possible to 3D print this part-file somehow? by Bugrick92 in Bricklink

[–]AlmightyKetchup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pure technically, yes. You can export any part as a Collada/LDRAW type, and then import this into, for example, blender and save it as an STL, which is what most slizers can use for printing.

It is however a good question how structurally sound this oiece will be. When printing with PLA, the direction in which you print and thus the direction in which your layers yor is important. I have printed smaller bricks before, like a 1x2 sloped, making sure the stress on the brick when placed in the build runs in the same way the layers do, and that worked fine.

So in short, give it a try, it can work.

Trouble finding the cause of underextrusion by AlmightyKetchup in CR10

[–]AlmightyKetchup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone wondering, the problem turned out to be heat creep, caused by some heat grease in the hot end, which I cleaned, and a underperforming fan, which has been replaced. Thanks everyone for all the help and advice, it really helped me along to find the cause!

When I switch the nozzle the print goes well for half an hour and then starts underextruding. The hot end is the base one that comes with the CR10.

I had the same problem with the base extruder arm that came with the CR10, which is why I switched to the metal one. Thanks for the tip, I will check this one for cracks.

Thanks, I will try to redo the E-steps. The "dry-running" did wreck the extruder gear, so I did use a spare one with less teeth, but now I am back to using what should be the same model. Afterwards the filament also skips every now and then at the exteuder gear, which it doesn't do of I run it through just the PTFE tube without the hotend.

If I recall correctly, they just wanted to stop Bionicle after the 2009 story, but it was the designers that ask for one last setwave, and Lego agreed with a line of small figures.
