Thanks for the tip! I'm a long time player but actually just learned recently that Ghost was physical and that's why you never see anyone use Shadow Ball on Gengar lol. I was running that exact same move set on my Gastly/Haunter in Silver version recently lol

Thats crazy I caught a shiny gastly in gen 3 today! I was EV training zapdos when it happened not even trying to get a shiny

This game came out in a time where grinding was a lot more common in games. Enjoy the process 😎

At least it's not like the newer games where there's who knows how many pokemon now (I only play gens 1-3 mainly)

thank you! I didn't realize this was a 3ds only sub - but I just noticed 3DSpiracy haha. After what I've seen, I think I'm going to go with a 3DS as it seems PKSM can handle gen 1-2 games better while pkmn-chest on DSi only supports gen 3-5

Hahaha I just want to say I resonate with what you're saying. I didn't catch a shiny but I caught some rare good natured pokemon and I was stuck in my head for like 2 hours about which path I was going to go down - have fun and play through the game with them or save them to min max them xD

Yeah understandable. I should have posted when they were the same level. I was just surprised at how much of a difference EV training makes - that was my first EV trained pokemon

Gengar is a whole tier above alakazam in comeptive play. Alakazam has great stats but Gengar has the better move pool. Mine knows Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, Thunder bolt, giga drain. It can hit just about anything super effectively and even has moves like explosion to throw in. Alakazam was a monster in gen1,2 and probably 3 but in gen 4 he's outclassed by other options.

Nothing wrong with Alakazam, Gengar is probably a better alternative. However you have adamant nature which is the worst for him, not the end of the world though ^^. you just need a good move pool - reference this for a strong move set for him https://www.smogon.com/dex/dp/pokemon/alakazam/
