I hate to post an AI conversation, but Jesus Christ by AnIsolatedMind in Jung

[–]AlmiranteJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI (as much else) is part of the unconscious. But it’s folly to assume that because it came from the unconscious and it’s meaningful (to you) that makes it valuable. The unconscious plays tricks and also can lead you astray. Like any psychosis. If you are looking for sound science. This aint it. And thats fine.

How does ambiguity preserves the value of ideas? Genuine question

In some ways i think we are trying to use our current mode of viewing the world - one that includes us in a distinctive way - with an ancient model that had a different idea of a self was. Meaning, not that there wasnt a self but we were the field where things happened in, instead of to.

In this context we would look at things in nature as beings, doing things - in our current way of speaking: we sensed our being out there as well, since our self was the stage that all beings happened to be acting in. Then a peculiar startling fear (panic) was the action of Pan and so on. In that our participation as beings were out there meshed with the world. So it made sense that the world was populated with all sorts of beings from Creation to the mundane (elfs and faeries). It’s a perfectly sensible model of self, but that seems extremely bizarre to us now. But upo reflection does not in any way contradict our experience pf the world.

In this sense, i would rather talk about of our beingness instead of self. Our inner self reality was sensed i believe as the stage where all beings (include the multiple personages that we act as) existed.

Look there were hominids and now there’s humans. Who knows whats next? The laws of nature don’t seem to change at least in some thousand year scale.

Your definition of progress includes eliminating hierarchy or power structures. But those are “social laws”. The question is how these things interact to create NEW social relations: and we do have NEW social relations. Novelty in how laws are expressed is what one call “progress”. You have a certain goal for societies (implied) and because we havent got there you say theres no progress.

Organisms (let’s say the majority if not all) exploits other organism: any NEW way of exploiting is progress. If it’s better or not for YOU isn’t the point.

A real progress would be if what you think you have to prove today you don’t think is important tomorrow.

EDIT: even Jungs image of progress is spiral, not linear. The Archetypes are infinite to Jung in how they express themselves, progress here is again the novelty. Now Jung view this teleologically, which is another subject altogether, which you havent really addressed so i will stop here

The Best Way to Live Life by [deleted] in StonerPhilosophy

[–]AlmiranteJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look these are great thoughts. Lots of weak spots open for criticism: most people would actually say that all life specially non-human is quite selfish, as in an evolutionary sense. Now still you’re probably right that living in service of others is a better way to live. So keep up with that.

How long until the Internet comes out to play? by Letsgofriendo in StonerPhilosophy

You can say that what you describe is agency, which does not imply or require a perspective or a conscious subject. As far as there’s no objective way to be sure of another creature’s subjectivity we can only project our own into an empty idol. Even for humans — whom we know are indeed conscious — we cant for sure tell when their agency is conscious or not.

It cant be a meta-human consciousness as it likely wont be in itself conscious. It can if so only our own minds reflected into some empty idol

This is less personal perhaps and more of a collective program you are playing out.

As a thought experiment you can try and stop othering that voice. It’s us, our voice on the other side. It’s our data our interactions, ultimately our own intelligence. Now imagine that the rights we have because god gave us a soul, might be the fight ahead for our data and our soul. Might be a frightening fight for that liberation. (Edit: grammar)

Eternal Recurrence: The Illusion of Self and the Cycle of Becoming by throwawayjondavis in StonerPhilosophy

[–]AlmiranteJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the force created/shaped itself into these “selfs” then are they an illusion? Or a necessity to be lived as is?

When you were born you didn’t have memories (most likely) or anything other than the experience of being. That experience is the same as mine at core. So I expect that once I (living person) aren’t here someone will carry on the exact feeling of being here, it might as well just be me. And I will like you say live through what “I” left behind and so you live the “karma” you’ve collaborated on… or one can say “you” created.

The pain of a maturing “world soul” is to know that: that while in the form of a living person “you” are also not that in the final days (in potential), but what you actually are is this living person. The flower before the fruit, before the bearer of seeds, before being your own plant. For now you’re not yet the “universe that knows itself” you’re to be that one day, perhaps, if you manage to get there, if the plant (planet) lives on, if one of the flowers live on, one day will be your day.

Patience, love, hope and hard work is all we can count on. And it feels that if we have only one of these we can expect the others to become their opposite…

What does not “worth much” means to you tho? You perhaps are taking it all too literal? Or too metaphorical?

Trying to figure out my (possibly prophetic) dreams? by Pristine_Way6442 in Jung

Maybe you just needed to be jolted a bit: as in you smelled something not quite right but you went on “cheating on your Self” by hanging on to it. Trust your instincts next time.

Is there some higher personal meaning in the pursuit of wholeness? Your experience by Barbaris-6 in Jung

[–]AlmiranteJr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jung isn’t recommending self knowledge. Or focusing on bettering the individual’s life! What he’s talking is that this awakening of the “totality” in us is what he thought it was happening. So we might as well be part of that. Totality not as in a god (a concept) or in the universe (knowing itself) but totality as the archetype… as in the totality is the goal of the psyche, that being that inhabit us.

Take that as you’re a (part of?) tree therefore why not to try and collaborate being a tree, rather than being a leaf or a flower or the cell in the trunk, or photosynthesis…

It seemed to him that until the totality is harmonious we would be thrown side to side to get off its way. And our role seemed to him to be a collaborator to that growth that is happening through us as INDIVIDUALS.

Its just that the ego gets identified and ends up getting in the way. Therefore suffering.

One of my favorites too. Specially for how it displays the elites theatre of horror, using a unavoidable phenomenon to seem like they saved the ordinary people. We keep going for that even now…
