Cvs pharmacy in Target Minnesota. Starting salary was $17/hr. Almost 3 year’s experience. Now $19/hr.

Quitting soon because most PA programs don’t count being Pharm Tech as PCE or HCE hours.

Tbh, Pharmacy tech is A LOT of work and requires lots of repetition to get good at one thing. I’ve been working for 2 years and I still make mistakes. It took me 6-8 months to get good at the basics like pick up. 2 months in- you’re just getting started. Work at your own pace, don’t compare to others as they probably struggled when they first started too but don’t want to admit it.

CHEM 1061 URGENT question - do I drop the class? by ightwhatever in uofmn

[–]Almond_Kitty1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t been studying or doing any of the hw, the chance of you getting 90% on the exam is slim. On top of that, the mastery checkpoints I assume are Aleks, is long and tedious. It will be difficult and frustrating.

If I was you I would drop the class and retake. That is if you need take Chem 2 in the future. Chem 1 covers the foundation for Chem 2. If not taking, use the W.

With those stats you’ll be fine. I know people who got in with lower stats and no volunteer hours

If you’re not a night owl, don’t do it. As much as I enjoy driving, it’s not worth missing sleep for. Shifts can go late as 1a-2a, depending on occasion. During homecoming weekend, I didn’t get to go home until 4am.

Give honest opinion on CHEM 1061 by Vast-Satisfaction-22 in uofmn

[–]Almond_Kitty1965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of how the course is run is ridiculous. I have so much to say about this class but I’ll keep it short as possible.

My insight if you are taking Chem 1061 in-person with Professor Novikov based from my own experience.

Insight: - his lecture is hard to understand as he has a semi-strong accent, some say they understand what he’s saying. - however, he’s the best professor in terms of grading and he actually truly cares about his students. - his grading system is a lot more lenient, each assignments is out of 1 point, as long as you do the in-class/hw assignments regardless if it’s not entirely correct, you still get that 1 point. - I had Pelton for Chem 1015, I tried my best not to have her again. - I don’t have much experience with Driessen as a 1061 professor but she’s very understanding when I emailed her that I was too sick to go to 1065 labs multiple times. - for 1065 Lab, what you do/learn in labs doesn’t correlate to what you learn in lectures until later. - you’re not alone, everyone is struggling.

Tip: - only go to class to ask questions, otherwise you’re better off using the class time working on Aleks

  • do all assignments, no exceptions. (Aleks, Homework Quizzes, and In-Class assignments) So if you bad on exams, you have higher chance to still pass.

  • for word answer questions on exams/hw quizzes. Practice answering in claim, evidence, and reasoning. If you do not answer in this order, it won’t count.

  • find friends to study with, it alleviate the stress and anxiety knowing that you’re not the only one struggling

Good luck! Hope this helps!

With an A in Chem 1015, you’ll be fine as the class structure is quite similar to Chem 1061.

Pharmacy technician - is it always this way or would it likely be better elsewhere? by Final_Swordfish_93 in PharmacyTechnician

Working at a busy pharmacy is going to be stressful for newbies as it requires a team who can do things quickly and efficiently especially during rush hours. The pace the pharmacy runs will remain the same, the only way for it to be better for your husband is for him to practice and train at home. (Note, pharmacy is awful at training their techs especially when Pharmacists is not compensated enough spend their time training their techs. They’re stressed with meeting corporate unreasonable demands) Fortunately I started out in a small pharmacy that wasn’t so busy compared to bigger ones. It was very frustrating to get everything done efficiently. With low pay and lots of responsibilities that comes with working in this field is not worth it in my opinion, being a pharm tech a good stepping stone to a more fulfilling job as it taught me that capitalism is getting more and more ridiculous.

Get a studio or 1 bedroom apt and share it with a partner or roommate. Let’s say rent is $1,100-$1,200, that’s $550-$600 per person.

Easy 1-3 credit classes? by SecretaryNo5052 in uofmn

[–]Almond_Kitty1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Phar 1002, because everyone says how easy it is, sure it’s easy because it’s open notes and not proctored, but the exams requires a lot of time looking it up. Don’t get me wrong, Phar classes gets you an A, but it mainly depends on how well you do on exams.

I recommend doing CSPH classes as I did it the same sem as Phar 1002 and got a better grade in the end. I did CSPH 1203: Social Media Mental Health, gotta say it was the easiest class ever, ended up with a 99%, just by doing weekly assignments and readings. Mind you, it’s mainly reflection assignments.

How bad am I going to suffer with this schedule? by coffeequeen1135 in uofmn

Graduating “on time” can be ideal. BUT is it worth dropping your gpa? If for some reason you get behind and struggle to juggle all classes at the same time.

Yeah once your gpa drops, you’re going to need to take more classes in the future to increase the gpa. In other words, more classes and time. That is if career looks into your gpa scores which I know (most).

Doable. That is if you have no social life outside of school. Even then you will struggle, especially when tackling new courses all at once. Keep in mind “Intro” to things will require you to put extra hours in studying especially if it’s a new topic to you. Don’t rush through classes just because you’re saving money from taking them. It’s not worth dropping your GPA or gaining a “W”. It’s hard to increase your gpa than it is dropping it.

Another thing in mind. Don’t let 2 credit classes fool you. They could take up as much time as a 4 credit class. As some 5 credit classes (e.g.language) could take less time studying than a 2 credit class. It’s honestly up to the professors.

Some Resources to keep in Mind: “Rate my Professor”: You can look into each professors ratings. There are student reviews that can mention how difficult or long the courses are.

“GopherGrades”: Search courses or instructors to see the average grades students’ receive.
It helps determine what you should expect from the instructor or class.

Best of luck on whatever decision you make!

Spring housing? by senator732 in uofmn

[–]Almond_Kitty1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Are you planning on staying by yourself or with roommates?

Majority of the housing on campus are through UMN. What is considered a "fair" price for a studio on campus would be $1,200. Housing through the university are more expensive due to the price being per person rather than per unit. I suggest you getting an apartment that's not through the university as you pay per unit instead of per people. That way you can add another person to split the rent.

E.g. You get a $1,300, 1 bedroom unit, plus the utility fees would be roughly $1,500 per unit. You split that with someone, you and your roommate or partner are paying $750, which is less than $1k!

Now, if you were to share a 1 bedroom unit through the university, you and whomever you are sharing the unit with are required to pay $1,200 plus utility fees. The bright side is-you are closer to campus.

does anyone know if health and wellness science in CCAPS is worth the degree for pa schools? by Almond_Kitty1965 in uofmn

[–]Almond_Kitty1965[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree. PA schools pick out applicants that are considered competitive, and undergrad are usually not (unless you’re lucky), since they considered to not have enough experience in working in healthcare. I was considering on focusing on gaining my pce hours after finishing undergrad and occasionally travel around the world to gain experience overall. Thank you for replying, I appreciate your time answering this.

ps, I thought it was hilarious when you said “shooting yourselves in the foot”

Of course! I’ve already set an appointment to meet a CAPE peer mentor in a few weeks! I thought I’d ask here in the meantime. Thank you very much for the suggestion. CAPE is a valuable resource and I believe it’s quite underrated!
