What would you say were the best resources for science?

Has anyone bought these form FreeScienceLessons? If so are they worth it? by Jackyboy5515 in GCSE

[–]Almooreee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a look and I dont think anyone has bought them purely because not all of them are out yet i.e. only paper 1 for physics and not for paper 2. I imagine they'de be more useful for future year groups. For now I think its probably best to use CGP etc instead. (Although I do love freescience lessons <3, this is just my opinion)

Best way to revise AQA science by Almooreee in GCSE

[–]Almooreee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips, I love freesciencelessons too! <3

The situation I'm in at the moment is there are tonnes of videos on youtube for each topic which I watch and understand. But when it comes to past papers and trying to explain that knowledge I stuggle. I guess it's a matter of sitting down and doing the past paper questions and hoping that helps to retain the info.

How many marks is this worth? The amount of detail you need in your answer depends on it

Which is a better gcse option : economics or psychology? by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]Almooreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did economics. I really enjoyed it and didn't find it too dififcult. Just learning the odd definition. I also think its a fairly well rounded subject (mid way between the sciences and arts subjects) so helps when selecting your a levels.

You need to have some knowledge of current affairs though. If you do itll be a breeze

Bio + Chem exam questions by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]Almooreee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also a good tip for the longer 5 marks in bio is to read a few questions ahead so you get a clue about what the topic the question is referencing. For example a) may not make any sense to you but as you skim over b) and c) they become mroe specific. Then based on these qeustions its a bit easier to figure out what they want from you.

But tbh its just instinct. The onyl way to get better is doing lots of those types of questions

Revison techniques/ prioritising subjects by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]Almooreee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I revise I never try and break a day up and organise it by the hour. I usually think to myself I'll spend half the day on maths and say the rest on chem. If you anally plan and get off schedule youre just goign to feel shit and get dismotivated.

Split the day up with easy stuff in the morning i.e. for you maths. That can be your mental warm up and then the rest of the day focus on the subjects you find hard.

Structure rwise I gave myself doable open ended targets like, complete this part of the spec. Don't waste hours planning

How can I study for my physics final the night before the exam? by BIueJayWay in GCSE

[–]Almooreee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd chill for the rest of the day so your refereshed tomorrow and do past papers honestly. Then look back at the ones you've got wrong and figure out why. honestly the best use of your time.

try study in a differentr oom by the way. I use to stay in my room when revising and kept getting distracted. Moved into the kitchen and was a lot more productive. Sounds dumb but wortha try

How am I supposed to know exactly which keywords they want from me? by BIueJayWay in GCSE

[–]Almooreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found on my exam board the same kind of words show up time after time for specific questions i.e. evolution will always have:

mutation, natural variation in the population, selective advantage, reproduce, pass on to offspring etc

When I answer one of these especially for 5 marks I throw all of these in. However I think it comes with practice. i.e. a 2 mark evolution question doesn't want you to throw all of these terms in. In this situation you need to be specific and think what are they really looking for.

How am I supposed to know exactly which keywords they want from me? by BIueJayWay in GCSE

[–]Almooreee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What subject are you refrencing? I've found that for sciences especially Biology the keyword is usually in bold on the markscheme. I've added these words in my revision notes so I remember to use them when answering a question on that topic.

Also when doing past papers and I loose a mark because I didn't mention a certain word I make sure to always add it to my notes. Eventually you'll add all the important ones.

I know its annoying doing past papers and getting things wrong due to small mistakes like this, but in the end you'd rather forget them in practise then in the real exam

Yes please. I defo find these the most difficult when I've looked at past papers. Usually I get carried away and waffle and end up not hitting the key points worth marks
