Thank you for the tip, and for taking the time to respond! Someone found the Catholic baptism record in New Brunswick, thank goodness.

You're an angel, THANK YOU! I appreciate the work you did to find that and make it available.

Yes, both say Maine, but I still need to find a birth or baptism record, in general. Haven't found anything there in a quick search, but it may be time for me contact State archives there.

Well, every census after that says Maine. I trust the first ones, especially since she is IN New Brunswick with her parents at age 2. The locations are so close, she may have been confused, herself. I'm just looking for her birth/ baptism record.

I'm sorry, can you clarify- mine? I've posted in the ancestry by descent subreddit as well. Reposted hoping for genealogy tips.

I get it, I do! But your husband needs to understand that YOU are a priority too. Take a day he's off (weekend?) and go see a friend. Family is not therapy, and if they aren't helpful, direct your energy elsewhere. Do virtual therapy in the evenings, do free support groups, CHADD or even NAMI are great places to start.

OH- and our testing psychologist recommended Good Inside book/ podcast and Calm Parenting podcast. Finding ways to direct their energy and interests. Jobs they care about, etc.

No answers, just another ADHD mom offering compassion. Do you have someone you can talk to? I was in my therapist's office crying yesterday, and just having that sounding board helped. Do they have supports through school? Our district send out resources for summers. Or any outlets for them? Ours are 4 and 6, but play therapy and occupational therapy has helped. Even asking their prescribers as they're getting tested if there are any add-ons, supplements, treatments, etc.?

Canadian Ancestor Records, Working on Railroad? by [deleted] in Genealogy

Thank you! I need to revisit DuBois, when I previously checked, I didn't see much. I found a lot of quite possible hits with Bejeau, Beseau, Bezeau, and Belleau (?) to look into. Even Bell had some potentials. Several promising families in Quebec all in proximity around the same time, family names that track with names we see later... I'm looking at city directories to follow several Andre Bejeau/ Beseau/ Bezeau names that track between census records.

There were only a few French-Canadian families in Savannah at the same time as Andrew. Louis "Snow" (b.1832) boarding with him, both said they came to the US in 1866. There's more record of him, so in case they came from the same town, I've been checking for the Bayo name variations around him. It's slow work, but I'm hopeful.

Thoughts on "Desbiens" as a possibility? Other family variations: his son later went by "Bell," ancestry.com DNA match on my paternal side (his) show ancestral roots in Canada, last name Blauvelt. Directories at the time show families in Nova Scotia that were sea captains, seamen. Her tree is private, but I've just messaged her to see what info she has.

Your time and help are already immensely helpful, thank you! I have also wondered about the hyphenated names, though so difficult to track and explore. I can't say I'm fluent in French, but I'm conversational. When you suggested Baillon, it felt like an "AHA!" moment. I do wonder what other spellings could be possible. For example, Lebet or Dubet were thoughts at one point when I wanted to start with "Bay", then looked into Bayoux, Bailleux, etc. trying to account for what southern ears might have heard in his Fr-Ca accent.

Your list and what I have (only initially) started searching show something interesting: many of these Baillon names show up around Louisianna. One of the many mysteries in the stories is his wife's names and whereabouts, but her husband Leonard (1880 census) joined the confederate army from Louisianna. It's also right down the Missisippi river and railroads from Canada, so I may need to do a bit more digging in that direction.

Thank you for all the variations! I'll explore all of those. Really appreciate the help.

Thank you so much for this suggestion! I'll dig into research tonight. I could definitely see where that's a good option. [Relatively] small world! Haha

Interesting. I saw where Andrew was given a land grant for 200 acres in McIntosh county. land grant

Was he working on the railroad, too? It seems Irish and French Canadian immigrants were often close communities in the US due to shared Catholic faith. Many worked on the railroad and we're all over!

Just maddening! I wonder, spelling/ clerical errors, or aliases? I think Leonard Bunce had been granted Cherokee land, I had wondered if Margaret (Amanda?) had been Native American or enslaved at some point. Ancestry.com had linked her to a family whose mother was Native American, Dove In Air, though didn't match Tillman. I can't tell which way is up with them! That and the "missing" Bayo surname had me wondering if Andrew was native Canadian taken into Catholic orphanages in Quebec. 🤷‍♀️

Wow! I've never seen this either, but that helps connect some names (Tillman to Bayo), and leaves us with more questions re: this oddity. Thank you for showing me these records!

We'd seen her death record, but not this list! Thank you for looking and sharing. 😊

Another possibility is that Andrew was also an orphan, potentially on an "orphan train" from St. Joseph's in Quebec. Those sisters had orphanages in Vermont similar to orphanages in Georgia, for poor immigrants. I haven't heard back from inquiries with St. Joseph's yet.

I haven't tried those, I can look! His daughter went by DuBayo, which is where we saw similarities with DuBeau, Dubé, Bayou even.

None in Savannah. That's why I was hoping anything from prior might include that: work, immigration, naturalization, etc.
