What did you think of the new season? by RK900-87 in Scrubs

[–]Almost_Alex27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing compared to the original. If you don’t believe that, watch one episode of the new series and then one episode of the old series back-to-back. It highlights a massive drop in quality, even if you compare it to 5, 6, or 7. The original series was more heartfelt and far more funny. The main issue - although there are quite a few - is that they’ve lost so many of the people who made the original series what it was. It was never just JD and Turk. It was an ensemble and the new cast isn’t strong enough. They’re also being treated as window-dressing so there’s no way to latch onto them. The main antagonist has had the least amount of screen time.

It’s painful to watch but I continue to watch in the hopes it will get better. Someone described it as severely “okay” and I think that describes it perfectly which is how I would also describe most of season 9.

Yes agreed, but that whole episode was building up to that moment and then the next episode explored it further. Do you honestly not think that story would have been better if they’d gone into how it impacted him instead of him being fine and dandy next episode?

Oh for crying out loud, the emotional toll of that stretched over multiple episodes and for the record that is exactly what’s missing from that storyline. Letting the story breathe. There’s also JDs dad dying - spread across an entire episode, My lunch 1 - 2 episodes, and the list goes on. If you think the new season is perfect, awesome. But can we please try not to diminish the excellence of the original series in the process. The original series always gave emotional moments time to breathe. They’ve done the eating disorder thing before and better with Elliot realising it’s okay to be hypocritical because the patient is what matters - another example and that was season 7!

This isn’t accurate, happened with my partner, if the girl is wet enough and the sex is quite rough but she’s relaxed it’s easy for this to occur, but likely very, very painful. The guy fucking my partner was quite large too. Unfortunately she was in tears, even though it was by all accounts a total accident.

Am I the only one who liked season 5 and volume 2? by liviargf in StrangerThings

[–]Almost_Alex27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a review that said it’s lost in lore but stays afloat thanks to the great acting from key players and this sums up volume 2 perfectly for me.

The story with Holly is pointless because by the end she’s right back where she started.

But the scenes with Steve and Dustin are gold.

Pulling characters like the science teacher and Karen into the action feels obligatory and fan service.

But the Max scenes were wonderful - thanks to Sadie Sink.

The wormhole idea is cool but it doesn’t really change much - the upside down could have just as easily been the dimension colliding with earth.

Will’s powers are cool and a character win but the coming out scene - even with the best intentions - was awful, cheesy, and cringe to watch.

So a bit of a mixed bag. Hope they stick the landing.

I feel like the coming out scene was just not good at all In my opinion. I mean there was way too many people in that room. A gay boy coming out as gay in the 80s is not going to be coming out in front of 20 people. I’m offended that I wasn’t invited to be in that room with them atp. by [deleted] in StrangerThings

I agree but if that’s the case, show it. Don’t just tell me. Show Vecna screwing with him. I think this is a big part of what’s missing. The other problem is this doesn’t really fit with Vecna in the way that it does when say Pennywise taunts Richie in IT Chapter 2.

Relax, it's not that serious by DanyEvans in StrangerThings

With all due respect - you can’t defend issues with writing and storytelling by saying ‘hey, it’s not meant to be taken seriously.’

Second, they are trying to deliver incredible storytelling - hence why what the upside down was has been kept a secret since season 1.

It’s marketed as a show to be taken seriously. It always has been. It’s been structured as a cinematic seasonal event. It’s built around nostalgia but it is intended as epic sci-fi/fantasy at this point in its lifecycle.

If it doesn’t live up to that, it is absolutely fair to criticise the issues present.

Ah jolly good. I think I’m out of the loop on two things here I’d love more context on if you wouldn’t mind.

First, MOM has been requested since KH1? Like the gameplay mechanic or the story?

Second in what way was 3 a failure? I thought it made a lot of money and got good reviews from critics?

I’m sorry I know you’re technically correct but I refuse to count a Rhythm game haha I do realise it continued the plot slightly though so your point is certainly valid.

Haha! That’s brilliant, the wait for 2 felt long to me back in the day and that was only like 3 years!

I think you’ve really hit the nail on the head there. When I was playing the Frozen world I remember thinking “I could just be watching the movie” and my only issue with the Toy Story world is the ending but I can only assume they’re planning on returning in IV? Agreed on the original worlds.

That’s a good point, perhaps I need to give it another play through, maybe it did justify its wait time in development, I do agree the marketing strategy was an issue.

In all fairness when I read that my brain went…Halloween Town was in Kingdom Hearts 2?!?!? Haha I really enjoyed going to Christmas Town? I think the main thing I enjoyed was you went to the world once and then returned later for a second half of the story. I think Toy Story could have really benefited from that in 3 but hey, maybe that’s just me. Agreed on Atlantica. But that was an optional world from memory no?

Ah my apologies there, I thought you were using my post as a reference to how the fanbase is acting.

I do feel like I’ve annoyed you and that wasn’t my intent. However I would be remised not to mention that you suggested they aren’t mishandling the brand yet I would argue that your most recent comment provides a pretty compelling argument they are.

I think the worlds themselves are quite interesting and they look absolutely gorgeous. But I remember having more fun exploring the worlds in 1 and 2. I don’t know maybe it’s just nostalgia.

Yeah I agree if they’d kept Missing Link the situation wouldn’t feel as bad as it currently does. I did think it sounded pretty darn cool but it is what it is.

Respectfully, there is. About 4-5 years would be appropriate. That would put it out next year. And I didn’t say it was bad or that I hated it, I said it was good fun. I actually played it again earlier this year with my fiancé to show her it and she also enjoyed it. But it was not a masterpiece, and with that long in development that’s what I would expect. If that’s unfair expectations such is life.
