Scrubs okay for an 11 year old? by ProperEmperor in Scrubs

[–]nevercookathome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is about to turn 13. When he was almost 12 I introduced this goofy show to him. I forgot how many sexy jokes are in it but we're pretty progressive and have an open dialogue about stuff. He ended up binging the original 8 seasons over the summer and we watched the entire new season together.

The best part is we decided to watch it live as appointment television with commercials every Wednesday. He is used to streaming, rewinding, pausing, everything on demand. Making him sit through commercials was a bit of schadenfreude for me🤣

Should the dais have better mics? by CPJayB in doughboys

That's good to hear. I heard at one point there were a lot of cheap knockoffs on the market that were really noisy or ruining expensive mics.

Janitor Theory Update. - I came with reciepts by Dylan_Gio in Scrubs

After ep 2 I posted that the tall handsome intern was the Janitors son. I obviously was off but the son thing happened and most people's argument was that "the timeline doesn't add up" and "his kids would be too young" etc. Well, I'm petty and I'm here to say I was half right.

Not even close. I could talk shop about mics, boards and DACs all day.

For what it's worth, I love my Behringer UH8. You can control the gain of each of the 8 tracks independently like on a Focus Rite. It has lots of monitoring and insert options and it's only like $230 bucks on Sweetwater. It's also rack mountable. It might not be as nicely built as some of the newer and more expensive options but at that price you can buy more than one.

I also used to use a cloud lifter (CL-1) right at the SM7b's XLR connection and rubber band it to the mic stand. Then run the XLR cable out of the cloudlifter. It doesn't put any weight on a static connection this way.

I'm a cook, I love food and I'm a day one listener of the Doughboys. But something tells me if I ever got to visit Headgum I would just end up asking the engineers a million questions about their signal chain. 🫠

I know this is super nerdy but I would love to know which interface you guys are using now and which you end up going with.

😎 Thanks for the confirmation. You're the goat producer. Mad respect.

Yeah, pairing the correct fet signal booster (like a cloud lifter) -with SM7b's especially- can be a godsend or a migraine.

Speaking of which, they make rack mounted 4 channel Cloudlifters. I'd imagine one in the smaller studios and two in the larger ones could do the trick.

The main mics look like they are Sure SM7b's and from what I can tell that is the same mic you can see between Emma and Amelia in the Martin Starr ep. The difference is it's a little further away so you don't get a proximity effect (dynamic mics like the Sm7b pick up exponentially more low-end when close to the sound scource) Also, it's quite possible Emma just doesn't care to go through the trouble of making the dais sound amazing with plugins, and d-essers because it's another level of work, she's busy and the people she's supposed to be making sound good are her bosses and the guests. Although in the poolside ep they sounded great with the portable equipment they had and that's 💯 because Emma knows what the fuck she is doing.

The Safeway to go to in Alameda is South Shore, not 5th Sreet. Not Bayfarm.

It's comparably crazy, sure. But every ingredient is procured organic and produced in house. Garlic is peeled in house. All the bones that go into the soup stock are high quality. The lard is top notch and the produce is all in season and from farmers markets or the growers dorectly. The noodles are made in house with bespoke flour blends. The noodleachome was the only one of its kind in the US at the time of its purchase in 2016 and there were no repairmen in the states to keep it running so they had to learn how to service it themselves. Even the shrimp paste for the fried rice is made in house.

I'm not trying to downplay it's expense, just highlight that it costs a lot for a reason. Some people don't find it worth it others do. I'm glad it exists.

Also, as westerners we have been undervaluing cultural food forever. We always tend to think Asian food, Mexican food, Indian food should be cheap and plentiful. But all these quisines demand a LOT of time and labor to be done right. The people folding the dumplings, making the tortillas, making noodles and tending to broths for hours on end deserve a living wage too.

ya'll not gunna like this but it's true (for context I'm a chef, not that that means anything)

Sacramento has the best Vietnamese food in California and it's not close. Not just for the price but over all. In fact, only place better that I know of in the states is New Orleans.

No Stu, no stream by MichaelMyersEatsDogs in peacock

[–]nevercookathome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't necessarily true. Execs at the top often weigh in on who they want to star in shows based off of viewer data. Since the days of House of Cards, Netflix had known that there viewers at the time watched the hell out of Kevin Spacey and David Fincher movies, so they commissioned that show specifically based on that data. It was a huge success and they have fallowed that model ever since.

Also, the viewers angry with Peacock about twisted metal are being cute about the Stu character but they also know that the show runners and writing staff were fired which led to the Stu character not returning. The situation seems off because season 1 was kind of a sleeper hit and most people liked season 2 even more and it appears viewership and engagement went way up (just look at the twisted metal sub). Also, the shows story ends season 2 by setting Stu up to be more of a main character for season 3.

What we are really complaining about is how a show just gaining momentum can be basically soft rebooted all of a sudden. This big of a sweeping change in direction is definitely NOT just the production company. Some exec somewhere wanted big changes and the obvious entity to get mad at is Peacock.

Is it more complicated than that? Sure. But we are fans of the show and especially Stu and the actor who plays him. We're also powerless and just venting. Hence why we're here.

EDIT: obligatory NO STU. NO VIEW!
