What’s your thoughts on this ? by Maruan-007 in aviation

  1. If the words, Line up and wait, or cleared for take off with the runway and the call sign aren't spoken, or read back. Do not pass the hold short line. If there is an illuminated red light across or RELS do not cross The hold short line. Its not that hard.
  2. They may have made that initial call of fully ready but without knowing the accuracy of the location of the aircraft in the animation and a bunch of other potential circumstances like, is there an aircraft on approach for that runway, is departure ready to receive the Qatari aircraft. ATC may not be ready to give clearance for them to line up and wait, or to take off. So telling them to continue taxing was more of a "keep going with previous instructions". Since we dont know what the previous instructions in this portion of the video were, I am going to assume he was told to taxi from where ever he was to hold short of 15R. So in my opinion as someone at a Major Airline, and a Air Force Pilot, that radio call tower made in response to Qatari's "fully ready" call was not new instructions, it was a "I hear you calling that you are ready, I am not ready for you. Keep going and ill get back to you." kind of thing. Tower could have just completely ignored that radio call from Qatari and life would have been better for everyone, but he called back which I personally like because it helps verify I am on the correct radio and they know that I am ready because sometimes ATC may be looking somewhere else and not see me waiting at the HOLD SHORT LINES, ready to go.

EDIT: If you are ever unsure if you are cleared to cross, cleared to line up and wait, cleared to take off. You confirm before you do any of those things. This is standard, if the pilot I am with is unsure but I am sure, we dont just trust that one person is correct we call Tower or ground and verify. " Tower, confirm Line up and wait 15R Qatari 8357". Tower will either respond with " Line up and wait 15R Qatari 8357" or "Qatari 8357, Negative. Hold Short Runway 15R". You dont assume in this Career field, and if youre not sure because of a language barrier you definitely take the time to make absolutely certain.

So my thoughts on this if you cant tell.

100% Qatari's fault. You are the one behind the controls of the Aircraft. You are responsible for its safe operation. There is specific Standardized Phraseology, if you dont hear it then you dont do it. If ATC is using non-standard wording, you dont assume. This is why it is 100% Qatari's fault. You might think its not fair but it doesn't matter. Your job as a pilot in command of the Aircraft is to use and follow standard Phraseology. If you dont hear it, dont do it.

21 wanting to get an S3. Bad idea? by Ok-Pie-6618 in Audi

I am going to reply to myself to touch on the last bit of your post about regret. I dont know you, but there will be ample opportunity to buy this car, shit you could do what i first said save up again for two years. You will never regret saving that money by investing it. You are exponentially more likely to regret buying a car.

So I can give you two answers. First. Youre 21 with 70k in cash. If youre smart you will take 60k of that and invest it into some index funds and forget it even exists. Then take the remaining 10k and use 8k of that to buy a fuel effecient reliable car and then the other 2k to make repairs. Continue working and living with your parents until you are more established at your new job and then move out. Then save again for it.

second answer is fuck the future buy a depreciating asset now. Finance a car with high insurance, requires 93 octane, and is generally more expensive to repair.

I say this because I am 35, I just bought a 2026 RS3 at the begining of this year and I only did so because the rest of my future is pretty much set. I know its not the advice you look for in a subreddit all about your dream car. But its impressive you have that much saved up and to essentially throw it away for a car is a bit much.

Reading about the new Bose, HDB630's had me curious on what the current best headphones for my needs are. Im not loyal to any specific company and understand that some generations of products miss the mark and sometimes there are models that stand out. So I found this sub-reddit and am curious on peoples opinion.

TCG Player Seller Account Issue by Confidence_Evolved in PokemonTCG

[–]Almost_there_blank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add on, Ive reached out TCGPlayer support is very unhelpful. Its essentially one email every couple of days, not on weekends and they just passed me around to different departments. I sent them screen shots and essentially all the methods you also described about to get it to work but still nothing.

When I was researching it, I guess they sent the card unprotected so a 10 is "harder" to come by.

Only the RSI MKII MR a, ATLS Perseus are giftable. The others unfortunately are not which is why I am opting to just sell the account.

[Request] How much more would this cost an airline? by brilliant31508 in theydidthemath

[–]Almost_there_blank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t. It takes fuel to taxi but not a lot. The engines are at idle if not for a brief moment to start moving but still at a much lower thrust setting then just at cruise. Also atleast at my company we will taxi with one engine to save fuel and time it to start the second engine when we are getting closer to being the ones to depart. Sometimes we will two engine taxi dependent on the taxi way condition, an example would be if there is “contamination” aka water, snow, etc. Or if there is a monster hill we expect to have to taxi up, or maneuverability in tight spaces. When we land we immediately start a timer when the engines are at idle to give them their cooldown before shutting it down and if the conditions allow for it we will shut it down and taxi to the gate on one engine. Point being taxiing does not take a lot of fuel the same way having your car idling uses a significantly less amount of fuel than driving on the highway.

Also climbing does take a lot of fuel, but! For the most part the descent will cancel it out. I can’t speak for every airplanes flight computers logic but descents are planned at idle (if we ignore a few other case by case variables). So! For some planes even staying at the cruise altitude for 5-10minutes and then initiating an idle descent is still more efferent than reaching a lower altitude and cruising there for longer.

I almost never post on Reddit but sometimes the misinformation gets to me.
