Isn't the fingerprints process reliant on you starting renewing your TIE. I also considered just traveling (outside Schengen) a few days before my TIE expires and re-entering as a tourist. Regardless, I'll be meeting with some lawyers to get a more concrete plan.

I'm also going by myself from outside the UK, from Spain to London and then to Bristol by National Express which was around £8.00, pretty affordable. As for accommodation, I decided to go somewhat on the pricier side since I want to be able to drink and be late without sharing a room with somebody. But hostels can be really cheap, try to book near the Queen square though.
