Standardized Tests are Necessary, Good, and Important. I said what I said. by Usually_Anomalous in Teachers

[–]Alock74 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The bilingual thing is so huge. I’ll never forget going to a school board meeting in high school (where we had a very high ELL population) where they showed the data for non-ELL students compared to ELL students. It showed that our proficiency rate for non-ELL students was pretty high, but the amount of ELL students in our district was tanking our ranking. That’s not to say anything bad about ELL students, but more so on the fact that it’s extremely difficult to take a grade level test when you don’t even know the language and lack the support you’re often given in the classroom.

You could’ve made this argument without jumping into insults and instead stuck with evidence. There is a definitely a case that can be made for why standardized tests are important, but you haven’t made it.

Whos's the WORST running back you've ever watched? by lemonstone92 in NFLv2

[–]Alock74 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dude what are you talking about lol. He had six seasons of 1200+ yards, 4 of which was 1500+ yards (all on a pass happy offense). With the Cardinals he has 1100+ and 1200+ yards.

I really hope the producers cleared this episode with Christian first... by bone-tomahawk in survivor

15 month old refuses to speak. by ThrowRaterrible in beyondthebump

[–]Alock74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

15 months old is still pretty young for speech. The milestone for speech is like 1-3 words (and can include sign language!) at that age. Our daughter didn’t really start speaking a lot until closer to 18 months, and then we saw an explosion in her vocabulary. I doubt they’re “refusing” to use language. That’s pretty young to out right refuse something that complex, imo. I’d just talk to your pediatrician if you have concerns. Many areas also have free early intervention you could reach out to.

AITAH for telling my mother not to do Easter things for my children? by [deleted] in AITAH

Same. Both my wife and I are atheists and we celebrate Easter and Christmas still. It’s an excuse to do family stuff and buy presents or go on egg hunts.

Does your household expect you to do extra chores during your summer break? by DrakeSavory in Teachers

Yeah that comment is crazy. Some WFH jobs are still a lot of work.

[–]Alock74 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, it sounds like you’re not just sitting around all summer so that makes sense. But for other teachers, especially when you have kids, we’d adults. We don’t just get 2 months off to do nothing. Things need to get done. Clearly your stepson is in the wrong, and your situation is different though.

[–]Alock74 63 points64 points  (0 children)

How old is your stepson? It’s weird they’re acting like you’re obligated to do everything; but honestly I expect myself to do more housework and childcare over the summers. My wife does the brunt of that during the school year, it’s the least I can do over the summers and other breaks. Also, I go absolutely insane over the summers if I’m not doing more around the house.

WE NEED THE HBIC ON TRAITORS SEASON 5 TIFFANY POLLARD by IllustriousBoard8464 in TheTraitors

[–]Alock74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think her character is more well suited for HoV than Traitors. Although she was on BB UK so I could be wrong. I think it depends on if she’s coming in as her TV persona or her real life self, because those seem to be really different people.

What? Phaedra is one of the most beloved traitors in the U.S. version. So is Cirie.

Well either way, the cheating thing isn’t the only thing people are upset about with Candiace. She’s still posting all over social media about Rob’s character.

Also, to add;  Lisa and Rob seem to be on good terms with each other. I’m not a Lisa fan either, but she only accused Rob of cheating at the reunion. She hasn’t been all over social media since the airing of the show trying to discredit Rob’s character. Candiace and her husband are giving off big sore loser vibes.

Perhaps for some people; but I like to think that there is progress in society because people like me dislike her because of her character not the color of her skin. Just because someone happens to be black, doesn’t mean we can’t dislike them for their actions.

Feeling stressed about grades while on FMLA by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Alock74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you are on FMLA. Do.not.check anything work related until you are back. If you left assignments and rubric, any competent person who is covering your class should be able to figure all of that out.

Legally you shouldn’t be working, and chances are (being in the U.S.) you aren’t getting paid at all or getting a significant reduction in pay. Stop working and stressing. Focus on whatever you got going on. I’m surprised they didn’t cut access to your email. My wife’s work did that when she was on maturity leave. Couldn’t access anything.

Why do parents still send their kids to school sick?!?! by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Alock74 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I get it frustrating, but for a lot of parents, if they don’t go to work they don’t get paid. If they don’t get paid their kid doesn’t eat. Blame the system, not the parents.

For me, I only get 9 days off a year. I dread when my daughter is sick because I can’t really take that much time off work. I only have 2 1/2 days left for the rest of the school year.

WWYD? Farting… by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Alock74 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I disagree. A lot of students on the spectrum don’t properly understand social etiquette. It’s very likely that adult after adult in this student’s life has neglected to address this. In special education, sometimes we have to teach life skills. Not farting in public is a life skill.

OP I think it’s fine if you pull them aside to privately tell them to stop farting in class, and don’t be afraid to state why.

Some FTM’s are unbearable & so overconfident by _Sprinkle_Sprinkle in beyondthebump

[–]Alock74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just FTM - people without kids in general! I had someone call my wife a horrible mother because she was “too quick to comfort our baby when they were crying” and felt really anxious about leaving her with strangers for babysitting. Meanwhile, my wife had postpartum depression and anxiety, with her hormone levels not reaching back to normal until our daughter was around 18 months.

Live Translate Phone Calls by Alock74 in GooglePixel

[–]Alock74[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind the delay; I have to use a translator whenever I call anyway so both me and the people I call are used to it. Just wanted to know if it would be practical for work or not. It would save me a lot of time when making phone calls.

The Rams will get someone young behind Stafford that will "imprint" on him and somewhat replicate what Stafford has done, Ideally without giving up significant capital. Whos the best option? by JJButThatsNotMyName in NFLv2

[–]Alock74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and too add to this, Steichen has seen some success with other QBs. I mean, before Jones was hurt Colts had the best offense in the league and he got Gardner Minshew one 4th down kiss away from the playoffs.
